Not really. Compared to today's emulation accuracy, it might seem quite shoddy, but this was still around the infancy of emulation, and the Dreamcast wasn't a particularly powerful machine compared to the other three consoles in its generation, so the fact that it can - to a certain degree of accuracy - emulate a console that only released nine years prior is quite impressive. The modern equivalent would be the Playstation 5 emulating a base model PS4.
@bruno-vicious4 жыл бұрын
@@alfo2804 I'm sorry what? You really don't know your hardware if you think the Dreamcast wasn't powerful. The Dreamcast was based off the Sega Naomi arcade hardware which inspired hardware like Atomiswave nearly a decade later. The Dreamcast was the second hardware to bring home a 1:1 arcade experience next to the NeoGeo AES. Believe me the Dreamcast was more than capable in performing emulation. At best the software emulation was in it's infancy as you said but the Dreamcast hardware was more than capable of delivering which is why Naomi lived on even after the fall of the Dreamcast. I think you need to do a little research in the history and specifications of the Dreamcast. The reason it failed wasn't because of it's performance. It was because of piracy.
@alfo28044 жыл бұрын
@@bruno-vicious What the fuck are you even talking about? I know what the Dreamcast is, what it was based on and what it's capable of. I also know that it's very common knowledge that emulation requires a device to be exponentially more powerful than the console it's emulating, which the Dreamcast simply wasn't. Even the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube couldn't emulate the Mega Drive with great accuracy. Plus, the MD is a notoriously difficult system to emulate, especially with its sound hardware, so it's no wonder it came out the way it did. And what on Earth does the console's failure have to do with this? The reason you gave was a complete myth, anyway, so it's even less relevant to the topic.

Save system, level select, How to Play, and leaderboards! (I think there was a password on Part 2 to transfer chaos emeralds if you got all of them but I never could) Probably version for smaller screen resolution thing. It's still a very very good port especially for the system it's on, spent hours upon hours on it despite starting with part 2 that starts at Labyrinth Zone and getting part 1 about 6 months later... I'd gladly share the version I own if I can get it out of my phone!

The line scrolling and parallax are actually better in the MegaDrive Japanese release. It’s strange given that they’re the same exact system. There are no scrolling clouds in the US version. For some reason, I always thought that the first time the clouds scrolled independently was the Saturn Sonic Jam Sonic 1 port. The cloud scrolling effect makes the first 3 stages look much more alive since there’s always some form of motion occurring on the screen. Thanks for posting this, it’s a great video.

My first experience of Sonic 1 was a J2ME port split in 2 parts. I don't think it was the iFone version, but it certainly wasn't the Glu one showed here (maybe they had 2? one for low-end device, another for high-end ones). My phone had a far better MIDI sound bank however so the music didn't sound nearly as bad as in this video -- somehow the uploader managed to find a J2ME runtime which actually uses a *worse* MIDI bank than the one Sonic Genesis uses (which uses the same midis in theory).

iOS and android versions are the versions of this game that sega should be porting to newer consoles. They are not emulations but faithfully re-created versions of the game with a lot of care put into them and the sound is essentially what the genesis is capable of doing but digitally ripped from real hardware so it's technically more accurate than playing the game on original analog output hardware.

@@alfo2804 Because you're not dealing with a digital source, the sound chip converting the sound to analog using the built-in DAC in the genesis then being piped out after going through filters and possible noise inside the console itself. Instead the sound itself was ripped from the source before it could be converted to an analog signal in the first place. You're right it is 100% accurate but the original hardware itself is not 100% accurate which is self evident also from model 1 and model 2 consoles using different chips also.

Why does the japanese version of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive look better than the USA version? Because Sega had more time with the japanese version?
@miamc46024 жыл бұрын
Yes, Sonic the Hedgehog was released in Japan after the US and a few graphical improvements and bug fixes were able to be incorporated in the timr between the releases.

0:10:01 I have sonic 1 and 2, iOS and android; how to get debug mode is: • Go on to no save mode • Press 4 letters, S, E, G, A, and you will hear a ring But if you play as Tails, you could press S,E,G,A but, also like this: A, G, E, S. Okay, back to how to get debug mode: • Press and hold the title screen when sonic appears. You will see the level select • Now you have to go to Soundtest and then do this code: In Sonic 1: 1, 9, 9, 1, 0, 6, 2, 3, and then you will hear a ring again. In Sonic 2: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4 and you will hear a ring. • Now select whatever level you like. Then touch the top left of the screen on the score, time, and ring icons. Just touch once. Now you're in debug mode. Just press once again to turn back to sonic. In debug mode there is a + and a - at the top middle screen and they were used to cycle through items and eminies used and unused like in the Simon Wai Prototype of Sonic 2 or the Nick Arcade (fixed). #tailsabuse #tails #sonic
