I actually played the 3ds version first, and while it wasn't mindblowing, it was still a good time for what it was, and I liked how it brought back levels from the handheld games for the boost era, even if I never played rush or colors (either version). I suppose it also helped that I played it BEFORE the PC version, so I wasn't comparing it to that during my playthrough. Also, the time eater is legitimately a decent final boss fight in the 3ds version. It actually feels like a BOSS FIGHT where you have to actively dodge large, highly-telegraphed attacks rather than chasing it through an endless tunnel while it poots out hotboxes you have to avoid while your friends yell about the homing shots (they could at least have some variety in their warnings, or at least not always use the term "homing shot"). Overall, nothing to write home about, but it's still kinda funny that the oft-forgotten 3ds port has a significantly better final boss fight than the otherwise superior console/pc version.

Finally for rush Leaf storm is a great opening level to introduce people to the mechanics with a great sense of speed with a outstanding music track in the form of "Right There Ride On".( Also minor note on the form for the rush stage roster leaf storm is named leaf forest which i don't know if that was localisation or an error on J's part.)

Doing a sort of "recasting" for Sonic Generations' levels, boss fights, and characters is something I've luckily already thought of and done in the past, so it was pretty easy for my to pick my answers for the form. Anyway, these were my picks and the rationale behind them. Game Gear Era Sonic 1 - Bridge Zone: This would immediately inform the player that what they're about to play is going to be similar to the console experience, but different in such a cool way. It's the perfect introduction. Sonic 2 - Underground Zone: Something about this zone always struck me as the perfect second stage for a Sonic game(yes, I know this is the first in this game). Sonic Chaos - Sleeping Egg Zone: It has such a uniquely surreal aesthetic for a Sonic game, and Chaos could use the representation. Rival Fight - Fang/Nack: As was said, he's something different, plus he was a major player in Triple Trouble and this would be a good excuse to use his hoverbike, the Marvelous Queen. Boss Fight - Marve-shupopolous-gou(aka the train): It's an excuse to hear that awesome music, and there's nothing else like Sunset Park Zone in the rest of the series. Gameboy Advance Era Sonic Advance 1 - Secret Base Zone: The music and look are both especially stand-out for this game. Sonic Advance 2 - Music Plant Zone: C'mon, what do I even need to say here? Sonic Advance 3 - Chaos Angel Zone: I haven't played the game yet myself, but I'd agree that it feels like a good, climactic choice from what I've seen of it. Rival Fight - Emerl: An easy opportunity for Battle representation that leads in to Sonic Advance 3, but I haven't played Battle, so this fight would take place... wherever the most fitting location is in Sonic Battle for a fight/race against Emerl. Boss Fight - G-Merl: I'm picking this over an Eggman fight for more character representation. A recreation of the Super Sonic fight(without Super Sonic) makes the most sense to me. DS Era Sonic Rush - Water Palace: Generations 3DS already had the right idea here, and it means multiple zones can be shown for this game(you'll see what I mean in a moment). Sonic Rush Adventure - Haunted Ship: Capitalizing on the pirate theming alongside ghosts seems like a good idea here. Sonic Colors - Asteroid Coaster: Having a more climactic finish over Planet Wisp or Tropical Resort is a must for me, another plus being the DS exclusive features. Rival Fight - Blaze: This is what I meant about Zone representation because aside from being the obvious choice, this also means showing off Dead Line. Boss Fight - Nega Mother Wisp: This is to keep up with my theme of holding off on Eggman until the end, and I don't think there are any other non-Eggman bosses in this era iconic enough to take this spot. On a final note, I want to take an idea I heard from JebTube(so credit goes to him for a lot of this) to give this game a dedicated final level. Maybe this issue has already been rectified with Asteroid Coaster, but even so, the final era being given a climactic finish is good in its own right, and I think it would be neat for Generations to have a new, realized zone for its ending. I'm not really sure exactly what this would be, but I'm thinking maybe the bulk of it would be the purple clock space with stage gimmicks from all the previous stages(with a new coat of paint based on the visual design of the purple clock space) which could be broken up by white space where you switch between modern and classic Sonic with hourglasses like in Sonic Unleashed. This stage idea would also apply to the console game, using gimmicks from the stage set in that game.
@WaterKirby19942 жыл бұрын
My proposal for a climax stage was Time Vortex which has you go through parts of several different zones. Also it's likely the reason we didn't get a stage from Rush Adventure is because it happened in Blaze's World. I don't think Colors really needed to be represented in Generations & really I thought both versions of Generations were halfbaked games. Imagine if Tails & Knuckles were playable alternatives to Classic Sonic, while Shadow & Blaze were unlockable alternatives to playing as Modern Sonic.

The missions that unlocked the model viewer, the art viewer and tons of music tracks that you could just play through headphones with the system closed were a great way to get elementary me locked into everything about the series. Me and a friend would race and compare our stage times, not to mention the online racing function too. I'm certainly nostalgia goggling a bit here, but I think saying it's a cheap cash-grab might be doing it a bit of a disservice lol, but coming off of Colors DS I can see where you're coming from. The 3DS version of Generations was the one I grew up with. At the time I didn't know much about Sonic's history or what games he was in, I just saw Sonic, played through a bunch of levels and thought they were original to the game not even aware that it was made for Sonic's anniversary. For a while I wasn't able to be the Time Eater but that's because I was *extremely* impatient and was paying attention to what the boss was doing. Even though it would probably be nice to include Fang and Blaze in the 3DS version, I feel that what we got almost perfectly represented Sonic Rivals as each of the rivals from that game are the same ones present in Generations even down to using their own abilities to try and stop the player from passing them or continuing. What I would've preferred is if each stage you raced a rival in was from either of the Sonic Rivals games remixed and modified to fit both Classic and Modern Sonic's gameplay as the physics for both games are drastically different from Sonic Rivals 1&2. However, there might be some evidence that some bits and pieces of 3DS version of Generations could potentially be the scrapped PSP version of Generations as the model quality is way too low for 3DS and looks like something that would be seen in the Sonic Rivals series on top of the fact a disk containing some data from that scrapped version as a image of what looks like an early version of Mushroom Hill. (It should be noted that a good portion of the data on the same disk was reported to be heavily damaged and a good portion of data leftover was removed leaving behind a select few screenshots, one of them being an early look at Mushroom Hill.) The models used in cutscenes and the results screen seem to fit more with other 3DS games at the time, still being low poly but not to the point to where it looks off although there's a bit of a goof with Classic Sonic's model. If you were to look at footage of Generations 3DS without the blurry resolution or had Classic Sonic's models on hand and paid close attention to the bottom of Classic Sonic's shoes you'll notice that the texture for them is the same as Modern Sonic's which doesn't make sense given Classic Sonic's shoes never had actual soles on the bottom of them.

Oh man! i always love to share my opinion on how the stage roster could had been in the 3DS version, so let me do just that: Classic Era: -Mecha Green Hill Zone -Aqua Lake Zone -Sunset Park Zone Boss Battle: Nack and Eggman (why not combining that ultra difficult Eggman final boss with Nack spicing up the fight here and there?) GBA Era: -Secret Base -Hot Crater -Cyber Track Boss Battle: the final boss of Sonic Advance 3 DS Era: -Water Palace -Sky Babylon -Asteroid Coaster Boss Battle: The Nega Wisp Armor and the Nega Mother Wisp I mean i kinda see the boss battles of this game as a combination of different bosses into one like a tag team battle against Sonic, like Eggman in the 8-bit era of handleheld he could be on his bipedal robot thing from Sonic Triple Trouble while you have Nack jumping into the foreground to fight you first with his attacks while Eggman shoots you with his mech from the back from time to time, once you hit Nack a certain ammount of times he jumps into the background or gets pulled by eggman itself and eggman jumps in to do the job by himself, the same thing happends when Nack just gets tired of being on the back and kicks eggman out of the fight so he can continue fighting you until you defeat both of them. The same thing can go for all the battles, like for the GBA one it could be just like it is in SA3 but mid fight Gemerl just gets off the mech and turns into the final thing he becomes and starts fighting you on his own attacking eggman to get him out of his way and then eggman does the same thing, same for the Nega Wisp Armor and the Nega Mother Wisp, what im saying is they could had gone the same route the final fight on Sonic Mania went, having the Heavy King and Eggman fighting for the control of the Phantom Ruby while also trying to get rid of Sonic at the same time.

Generations 3ds was a massive disappointment in the potential we could of had, so I'll absolutely do my voting part with reasoning: 1. Bridge Zone: Looks similar to green hill already. I'll like something different than the usual especially for the first stage, but I do see your point that green hill being a promotional and all that so green hill makes sense 2. Aqua Lake: This choice was one of the hardest choice between Underground, Sky High, and Aqua Lake. I see a good reason for all of them, so I choose Aqua Lake cause it's my only water stage I got and you gotta have a water stage. Having Underground as a second stage will legit just be like Mario in its level ordering, and Sky High is a little too similar to me with green hill I don't want too much of that aesthetic. Speaking of which, all 3 have amazing aesthetic, so all 3 are good. 3. Sunset Park: I haven't played Chaos and screw Blast and Triple Trouple best game gear don't care what anyone else says. Amazing music, but what I especially love is that I can feel the intensity of the stage along with the music and the sunset/train aesthetic. Trains are cool. 4. Egg Rocket: Completely agree what's said about the stage even though I actually never played advance 1. Such a fantastic idea for a stage and great intensity too reminds me with the gimmicks used in Hydrocity, Marble Garden, and Flying Battery "it's like poetry, they rhythm." 5. Ice Paradise: Completely bias here from Sonic Flash. This is also where I can add my city level with snow! Music Park is a great choice tho. 6. Route 99: Originally Chaos Angel, being a bit hypocritical here I didn't mind another city level (city level>green hill level) I really did wanted Chaos Angel solely for that beautiful purple/orange sunset background, but I got another ancient ruins level in the sky coming up. 7. Night Carnival: Again, I'm bias for this it's my most nostalgia stage. Also my only casino level you gotta have that! 8. Sky Babylon: Would of picked Machine Labyrinth, but this stage is so cool. If this didn't exist, Chaos Angel would of been picked. I don't want two basically the same stage even tho both have that majestic setting and music I love so much. 9. Asteroid Coaster: Like what the video says, this is a great and fitting last level. Parts of me would of liked Sweet Mountain cause I'm bias, but in this way makes sense. The rest of the Colors stages would of been pretty odd choices for me personally. Also I prefer the music here than the rest.

I liked Generations 3DS for maintaining the springs from the classics to Advance 1. Also for the bonus challenge stages even if they weren't perfect. If you ask me, I prefer Special Stages to be simple if present at all. Lost World 3DS is the extreme end of being difficult (impossible while seated) but they tend to be one of iffy elements on the games. Cool that they designed a way to extend the game if you want 100% (or tosave time with Any%), a true final boss and the like but it is better off being there but too easy than being absent or worse yet, there and a nuisance. The reward is rarely even that high.

Heres my take on a better 3DS Gens Classic Era: Sonic 1GG: Green Hill - I would choose Bridge because its more iconic in the GG version but definitly the "promotional material" argument is more heavy. Act 2 could use a more cavern and mountain design like the OG Act 2 in the game. Sonic Chaos: Gigalopolis - Why Chaos instead of Sonic 2GG? Because I think it would be more sensical instead of another "console port" even tho it really isnt, besides Chaos in Japan is called "Sonic & Tails", so for the third zone been from "Sonic & Tails 2" which IS Triple Trouble JP name, it would make more sense as an exclusive duology for the GG. Gigalopolis because it makes a nice parallel to Chemical Plant and Casino Night in the OG games, which are city levels, and definitly it one of the most iconic next to Sleeping Egg. Sonic Triple Trouble: Sunset Park - Ofc it is and you know why Rival: Fang on Subspace - Yeah same reason as you said. Boss: Blast Final Boss on Silver Castle - If we are gonna have a Blast mention in the game, IMO this boss is more iconic than the Chaos one, simply because its WAY MORE HARDER and frustating. Dreamcast/GBA Era All zones you mentioned fit perfectly. Rival: Gemerl on Route 99 - Why Gemerl instead of Emerl? Because Emerl is dead, and would be a hard punch seen him again. Also using Route 99 here would be perfect since the Advance 3 zone would be Chaos Angel, and Route 99 fits with the "Rival battles mentioning the Rivals games" Boss: Ultimate Gemerl - Yes repeating Gemerl twice, but like I said, we cant use Emerl. Why not another Eggman fight? Because like in console and 3DS, he aint the second boss, it cant be him, he only appears in the third one. I thought of using Mecha Knuckles or just Knuckles himself from Advance 2, but clearly the second boss needs to be something impactfull like Perfect Chaos and Biolizard, so Ultimate Gemerl. Idk if its going to be on Chaos Angel or Exception, because how would Sonic walk in Exception Zone if theres no ground? Modern Era All zones fit perfectly, Rivals and Boss too
@phil21602 жыл бұрын
Personally I though Gens3DS was fine, not as great as the HD version, but still a good time. If I were to select stages so the game would be a more faithful homage to handheld Sonic games, I'd select : - either Green Hill or Bridge zone for Sonic 1 - Scrambled Egg for Sonic 2 (it was mainly for the music honnestly) - Sunset Park for Triple Trouble - Fang as the Classic Era rival (taking place in TT's special stage) - a Sonic Chaos boss, to represent the game (probably Gigantopolis' boss) - Angel Island for Advance 1 - Music Plant for Advance 2 - Cyber Track for Advance 3 - Gmerl for the Advance Era rival (taking place in Chaos Angel / Altar Emerald) - Super Eggrobo Z (from Advance 2) as the boss - still Water Palace for Rush - Haunted Ship for Rush Adventure - either keep Tropical Resort or have Starlight Carnival for Colours DS - Blaze as the Rush Era rival (in Dead Line) - Nega Mother Wisp as the boss (considering the boss was both a secret final boss and DS exclusive, it's better fitting)

There are some mechanics that could've differentiated Classic Sonic's moveset even more from Modern Sonic: + "Kick Shield" from Sonic 3, which happens to also appear in one of the Advance games. It either helps you beat an enemy earlier with the greater surface area or help you dodge spiky enemies midair + Stronger spindash like the console version for higher leaps while also able to perform Sonic CD's superdash with the up arrow for even greater speed boost at the cost of vulnerability + Tailscopter (Sonic 2 and 3) for high secret shortcuts that Modern Sonic wouldn't reach + *Hyper Sonic* with Generations' Open your Heart Remix And new stuff to NERF Modern Sonic's homing attack: + Activate the homing attack indicator even on spiky enemies/bosses, except Sonic does receive damage instead of destroying them, as intended, which means you have to time your dashes so that you don't lose your rings while speeding up And also couple some levels within their classic and modern counterparts, like Game Gear's Green Hill goes for Classic Act 1 while Advance's Neo Green Hill goes for Modern Act 2

Loved the ending discussion of theoretical handheld generations. I had many similar choices to the patrons and actually made a document a while back listing every single stage I would want from each of the handheld games. I think the only ones not mentioned were for mecha green hill zone from chaos. As for bosses, the ones I would have wanted for the classic era would have been either final bosses from pocket adventure or the Battle Kuku commander as both are more obscure games (also Tails Adventure is a Gamegear game). We were in agreement to have Knack as a rival. For Adventure, we agreed on having Emerl and Gemerl although I was not comfortable having both as bosses since I thought they were the same character at the time so I also thought of Imperator IX from Dark Brotherhood as a boss to fit with the theme of having the middle boss not be eggman. Finally, for the modern era I want to say Blaze was probably the best choice and makes so much sense. I personally chose Johnny as the rival. The boss I went with was the Egg Wizard from Sonic Rush Adventure. If I had to fit your criteria of only having bosses from the represented games, the choice of the Sonic Chaos boss would be good, although I personally think it is not that intimidating. Maybe the three mechs from triple trouble too? Also, part of me thought classic knuckles would be a good boss originally as the first rival battle, even though Knack is better.

Although I still think Gemerl is a better rival boss than Emerl on the simple fact that Gemerl is still alive (like the rivals Sonic fights in the console version) and he was a reoccurring rival boss in Advance 3 itself, improving with each encounter. Plus, like Metal Sonic, Gemerl ended up being the final boss (the same can be said for Emerl, but he was heroic up until he glitched out in that game. XD)

8:38 But on 3DS you can do the "accel spinatack", just jump and roll and jump and roll again, everytime you roll you will get more momentum and go faster Personally, this is more fun than the broken spindash simply because momentum exists, combine that with Time Attack and the online versus that encourage speedrun, and it ends up being a much more fun formula than on console. If the game had more levels and a better level design (I hate Radical Highway), even with the other problems, it would be a much better game than the console version in my opinion

How awesome would it have been to fight Fang The Sniper again after so long, and to actually hear a voice actor portraying him? His bossfight would be every encounter with him in Sonic Triple Trouble combined, until he snags the Chaos Emerald and tries to escape on his airbike, the Marvellous Queen. You chase him down while dodging all the projectiles he shoots at you, and the more damage you do to his bike, the more smoke rises from it, until finally, it blows up, he drops the Emerald, and is sent flying into the screen for a comedic 3D effect. As for who would voice him, while my answer is different now with which voice actors are available (assuming they ever do bring him back), back in 2011 I think Michael Sinterniklaas would be a good pick. He's got the range that allows him to portray Fang as sinister at times, and hysteric at others when his plans go down the drain. If we're talking about Fang in a new Sonic game, my answer would be Chris Patton in a heartbeat, but considering the time Generations 3DS was released, I think Michael Sinterniklaas, Spike Spencer, Brian Beacock and Sam Riegel would all be worth auditioning for the role. What's sad is that this is one of the many chances SEGA have had to bring this character back as a regular villain in the franchise, and that's not even counting his cancelled appearances. Instead of Shadow driving vehicles slower than himself and sporting realistic guns in his own games, why didn't they focus on the abilities Shadow already has, like time and space manipulation, and his melee combat prowess? That way, if Fang ever came back, or starred in his own game, he'd not only have a gun that's stylised to fit in with the Sonic universe (maybe even have multiple ammo types), but you could wreak havoc on the roads with his Marvellous Queen. Instead of making a redundant rival character in Sonic Rush Adventure who literally serves the same function Fang once did... you get the idea. Fang is said to have come from another dimension, so this could've been the Sol Dimension. He could've been a notorious wanted criminal who's avoided arrest by hopping between Dimensions. Instead of fighting Johnny the generic, you're now challenging Fang for the Emeralds, while he uses every dirty trick in the book to try and win against Sonic. After Sonic Generations, we got Forces and Team Sonic Racing. Starting with the former, while Forces has a lot of issues that needed addressing and changing much earlier in development, I do like the idea of Eggman bringing back villains from the past, in addition to the new villain Infinite. Assuming they abandonded the daft Phantom Ruby clone idea, it'd be great if we saw the likes of Metal Knuckles, Gmerl, and of course, Fang, all with their own reasons for joining. Where Chaos would be manipulated by Eggman, the robot villains programmed to kill Sonic, and Shadow acting as a double-agent to help the resistance, Fang would be in it for the money. He'd side with the highest bidder, and would catch onto Shadow's betrayal and force him to retreat. And of course, when the going gets tough and things don't work out for him, Fang would possibly side with the resistance, and then make his escape into subspace before he can be apprehended for his treacherous nature. Remember how Fang was playable in the first Sonic racing game to be released in the west? Well, what if Team Sonic Racing called back to that game, by having Fang return? This time, he's driving a redesigned kart version of his Marvellous Queen, and his partners would be his fellow Hooligans Bark and Bean. Fang would be out to steal whatever prize and riches were available, so of course he'd jump at the chance to take part in the race, with Bark and Bean serving to keep him from botching his own plans. And their voice actors? Easy. Chris Patton as Fang, Kaiji Tang as Bark, and Ben Diskin as Bean.
