To be honest this ship always seemed for me as kind of symbolic of what kind of person Sonic is, i mean he was always this adventurous guy who loves speed, freedom, and being able to choose what to do on his own, yet Amy is kind of girl that want something more than just romance, she wants this relationship to get serious, and maybe that's what Sonic is afraid of, maybe he is afraid of that if he will let her for this it will mean she'll pin him down, she'll cut down his freedom, and turn him into boring head-of-family guy that keeps taking care of family and never goes on adventures. I know that this sounds like Quite narrow minded point of view but this woudl fit classic Socnic with his attitude perfectly. And with Modern era all characters started to slowly mature, develop further, so maybe they started to look at things from wider perspective, maybe Sonic found out that constant relationship isn't a doomsday for his adventurous life... that limitations such relationship could bring don't have to be so drastic. At least that how it feels basing on games canon.

There is a lot of Sonamy in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. In the scene where Jett confronts Amy for stealing the Ark of the Cosmos, you can see Sonic in the background frequently jumping and fidgeting every time Jett looks as though he is about to hit her. After awhile he actually stands up for Amy. Also, you can see him putting out a protective arm around her whenever the MeteorTech robots come at them. Also, there is this article in a Disney book where people actually interviewed SEGA; asking if Sonic actually had feelings for her. SEGA said yes, that Sonic is just shy and doesn't want his enemies knowing that Sonic has feelings for her; causing her to become more of a target than she already is. ALSO, if you read the letters sent to Archie at the end of every comic, someone does ask them to make Sonic and Amy together. Their reply was that technically, they already were. Of course, they might be just saying that to make them happy as they technically prefer Sally with Sonic, but... who knows? Tbh this is all the evidence that I need to confirm.

Wonder how many have seen a tweet by Naoto Oshima himself being asked about his opinion on Sonamy. I really like how the Japanese staff, including former employees like Big Island Oshima have a positive view of the ship and express fondness over it. In Ohshima's case, not only does he like Sonamy, but stated that even Sonic will forever be a boy at heart, were he ever to one day mature, he would most definitively pick Amy. I guess this is mostly because of Japanese culture and how things like Amy's devotion is highly valued. Just see how unlike Tails, Amy's devotion to Sonic is tested in ways that really puts the poor girl in difficult situations, like in Sonic X where after Chris Thorndyke decides to be a jerk and closes the portal so Sonic can't return, effectively separating him from his friends. Amy is the one who had it the worst because she had to choose between moving on with her life or wait for god knows how long until Sonic came back... and even that was assuming IF he ever did come back. And still, she choose to wait, even if she were to become an old lady. I don't think any character, not even Tails, can be so loyal to a person they care for. Then the second issue of IDW put things very clear: Amy loves Sonic for whom he is and for what he does, and would never do anything to take it away from him. I don't think any other girl deserves nor has the chance Amy has to become Sonic's significant other with whom he would share his adventurous way of life. However, Sonic Team won't make them an item simply because Sonamy is not about the goal, but rather, the journey to get to that point.

I know this is late but Sonamy is a teasing-shopping thing that Team Sonic keeps doing throughout the games. Team Sonic also confirmed that Sonic does have feelings for Amy Rose but is just too shy to confess his feelings to her. About the date in Black Knight. In Unleashed, there's w conversation that you can have with Amy where she asks you out. I guess the Canon is that Sonic actually said yes

Apparently sonic and Amy's relationship is much different in the West. Sonic is usually repulsed by Amy's constant overbearing obsession, and really wants nothing to do with her, which is why he has lines like "Ugh, I give up she's so weird". In the Japan, Sonic seems to be more caring about her. Sega of Japan actually said something about Sonic pushing Amy away in Generations was out of character.

To be honest, I won't deny that Sonic is very caring about Amy whilst always constantly concerned about her wellbeing but for Sega of Japan to question Sonic's actions to be out of placed doesn't make any lick of sense. Personal thoughts on the possibility (ignoring the old comics and such since I never got into those); In the game canon; Maybe. I don't think they'll actually get together, but that doesn't mean there can't be mutual feelings. The writers just need to learn how to treat Amy's character well. Unleashed did her justice, if only they could keep her consistent with that. She is a good girl, a great character who has suffered a lot due to poor writing. In the IDW comics; Again a maybe. They seem to be based a lot on the game canon, even following the event of Forces, but there's only 4 issues out for now, but the one focusing on Sonic and Amy had some of the best interaction between them, witty banter, teamwork, a little bit of flirting, it was great. In the Sonic Boom canon; Yes. This is where the biggest possibility is. They are obviously mutually into each other, so if we get a season 3, I could see it go all the way, but ya know, still remain true to their character. Honorable mention is Sonic X, where they were very canon and in love.

My take on the thought of Sonic seemingly hating Amy is simple, he's afraid that if someone (like Eggman) that has ill feelings toward him will use Amy to their advantage like many villains will do. Maybe Sonic refuses to show feelings toward Amy to discourage and lower the chances of her being hurt because they are together. I know, she already gets captured quite often usually by Eggman, but other people he may meet and fight that are possibly more dangerous than Eggman (who isn't very opposing at all) could cause some major damage. I feel Sonic truly has feelings for her.

You got all of this right. I also note that your opinion about them sort of changes at the end of your theory. You look at old games and your skeptical, but when you get to the latest games and you think it could work more and more. Everyone thinks this way about them. So following this rule of y = mx + b format for their interactions throughout the franchise, it probably will happen, but like you said and I quote "it all depends on what Sega does with their characters in future installments." Sonamy can work in the games actually, the only thing we need is some quality writers, because the games in the modern era where she becomes annoying and flat again are written by the same people who gave us the wonderful plot of Lost World and such likeable characters in Colors. Honestly, the Unleashed writers could make it work, the story in that game was great too. When you are dealing with characters like these, you really need to be careful, something the recent Sonic writers fail to do in every game.

Honestly I hate the interpretation they gave to “Sonamy” in Sonic boom, it drained out all the charm the pairing once had for me, but it’s okay, I’m not going to call out Sonamy Boom fans for that. If you think they can’t work, that’s okay too, the only thing I was pointing out was the lack of good writing in recent Sonic games, decent writing last seen since Sonic Unleashed and SATBK, and in my opinion, the Sonamy in those games were flawlessly executed, then Amy became “Peach 2”, but hey! I know this isn't canon, but in Sonic boom it's basically confirmed Sonic has a crush on Amy, because 1: he gets jealous when in 'fuzzy puppy buddies' Knuckles says 'looks like she's setting up for a date', 2: in the season 2 episode 'robots from the sky part 4', when Amy, Knuckles and Sticks come to Morris town, Sonic rushes towards Amy and tells her he's happy to see her, kind of awkwardly saying it's just as friends. Sticks (as a joke) says 'isn't that lovely', but that was most likely to kind of take the audiences attention away from that obvious Sonamy moment. Notice Amy is the only one who Sonic greets so enthousiastically. Also, 3: in the same episode, Amy calls Sonic on his communicator, asking him where he is. One of the two sentient robots with them asks Sonic if she's his girlfriend. Sonic gets a bit flustered by this and denies the claim, quickly hanging up on Amy when she's about to remind him of something, most likely a date the two had. Also, some people may miss it, but when Sonic denies the fact that he and Amy are dating, Tails (who is standing next to him) looks at him with a knowing look. Like he knew what was going on. If that's not enough proof that Sonic and Amy have a crush on eachother and Sonamy in Sonic boom is pretty much canon, I don't know what is.

We cant say anything about the games, as considering we already dropped off CD and Dreamcast eras off, Modern is left to go and it's quite questionable, since only time we have seen actual character development was in Unleashed. I don't see it ever progressing I figure Sega will pull a Disney and keep all the character dynamic exactly the same without any progression. Ex: Sonic always being the cocky cool guy as the years go by, never aging staying exactly the same, or Amy always being in love with Sonic never having her feelings reciprocated only shown for comedic moments .

I think you missed the point of that comment entirely. Given the target audience of the games, any relationship Sonic is never going to progress further than Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse or Mario and Princess Peach. So its not a matter of Sonic having a relationship with someone other than Amy, just that romance doesn't belong in the games.

Before going to Eggmanland orafter completing the main story in Sonic Unleashed, if you return back to Shamar and talk to Amy the following conversation will take place. Amy: "This next one's the last temple, right, Sonic? You can do it I believe in you! And when you're done, the world will be at peace and we can finally go out!" Sonic can either reply with "That could be fun." or "I'll pass, thanks." I'm assuming that the first respond was canon since that could be the date at the end of Sonic and the Black Knight.

How about Sonic and Homosexuality? Well bisexuality since he's shown to have interest in women as well. He's a free spirit who rolls around and follows his rainbow. But can ya explore the idea more in depth, discussing why it can or cant happen where unlike the Tails one where it seemed like you were pitching a story towards the end. Perhaps Sega doesnt feel comfortable tackling the idea, perhaps in an attempt to gain relevancy they go the pc route. Story wise, he's not a touchy feelings kind of guy so perhaps it never occurred to him, or like the werehog perhaps he's afraid of being seen in a certain way, putting ego and reputation first

I know I'm a few years late, but it will never happen. With the rainbow, he does not refer to the LGBT+ community at all. Does that mean the Sonic Team hates homosexuality? No. The Sonic Team already has a genderless character who represents that community and is the protagonist of Nights into Dreams. In Japan homosexuality is not seen as bad, yes there are people who discriminate because of it, but it is because there are not many homosexuals and having children is highly valued. If the Sonic Team wanted to make Sonic homosexual they would have done it, even if it had not been explicitly, as they did with Nights. They were the ones who openly confirmed that Nights was neither male nor female, but for the Sonic Team, Amy is Sonic's girlfriend, they ship them. Seriously, on Christmas days in their official accounts, they usually place stuffed animals of both. For some that won't be a big deal, but it is in Japan. In Japan Christmas is celebrated with the couple or the family. Naoto Oshima himself stated that he "loves Sonamy" on his Twitter account. In different media they have explicitly called Amy the "Sonic's girlfriend", although for certain reasons (which I will not mention so as not to make my answer too long) Sonic has not formalized the relationship. Creating Amy was a request from SEGA's Licensing Business, which was looking for a Minnie (Amy) for Mickey (Sonic) in 1992. Amy's entire purpose from the beginning was to attract girls to play Sonic being his girlfriend. Her name literally means "beloved". And since the Sonic Team (since Ken Penders left) became so strict with the ban on Amy falling in love with anyone other than Sonic (literally written in the contract with IDW), they are not going to let their Minnie stop being Sonic's "girlfriend". And I'll say something, I know that Sonic and Tails are not real brothers, but they love each other as adoptive brothers. That is why Sonic and Tails' ship seems vomiting to me. Two people who considered themselves brothers in a dating relationship? No thanks. In addition, Tails is a boy of only 8 years. Sonic is 15. It would be pedophilia, even if they are both younger. So personally I don't like it. The Sonadow will never happen, Shadow himself seems vomiting (confirmed in a Sonic Twitter Takeover). Knuckles ... I doubt very much that he loves Sonic that way, in fact I doubt that any other male teenager in the saga sees it that way. But I wouldn't mind if an LGBT + character came into being. I must say that perhaps that will not happen, because SEGA does not want any other couple in the Sonic saga other than Amy and Sonic, they have prohibited IDW, unless they invent it in their games, and it is very little probable. Still, SEGA has Nigths, so at least I'm content with that. It would be great if Hollywood made a Nights movie. PS: I just remembered that the Chao have no gender. How do they reproduce? I have no idea, because they lay eggs. But ok, whatever the Sonic Team wants to do, let it do it. Maybe it's something like in the Trolls movie, I don't know.

Could SonAmy Ever Work? In my opinion, sure, but Amy's personality will need to be almost completely different to her canon personality. Amy is literally obsessed with Sonic to the point of her wanting to shave his sphinx and having them. I can certainly see why Sonic wants to stay far away from her as much as possible. They need to abandon Amy's obsessive personality, and in return, make her like a female Sonic where she is cocky and independent. Hell, to even make her different than Sonic, make her have low self-esteem and a sense of self-loathing within herself.
