I really enjoyed the boosted version. It gave it more aggression and snarl but retained the spongy SLO vibe as well. Fairly unique and cool to my ear, thanks John!

I got both the HD 15 and the Steelpark Overdrive at your recommendation a year ago. They are pretty much my only gear along with an Earthquaker devices Avalanche Run. I chased the SLO sound after becoming obsessed with the Killswitch Engage As Daylight Dies tone. I've gotten this rig to sound pretty great over the last year. In general, for the Crunch Channel I have the Pre-Gain cranked and the Master and Presence pretty low, whereas the Drive Channel sounds best with the Pre-gain pretty low and the Master and Presence cranked. For both I have the Bass and Treble a little past noon and the Mids a little before noon. I usually use the Steelpark with the Level at 10 and the Drive at 0 like a Tube Screamer, and the Low Mid boost sounds extra aggressive.

Just got mine delivered (bought because of this channel). And it is extremely versatile. It’s crazy how cheap it is for what it does.

Underrated jem! This is a good example of bright, upfront tone without being harsh or fizzy 😍

Sound really good! The low end reminds me a lot of my Koch amplifier, which is why I boost that amp. Just like the Wang, the boost makes it sound much more angrier 💪🔥

Came from the Hmap post, this thing is definitely very interesting. I'm currently using a boss katana amp as a speaker/poweramp with an audio interface and Neural DSP plugin of choice. Budget af but very effective for home use.

Better than I expected the boost certainly helps the same can absolutely do metal but I don't think anybody's going to be swapping out their 5150 for it anytime soon

Breaks up like an ancient tweed, think “outa the blue and into the black” with Neil’s 58’ Fender Deluxe Tweed amp, if you max the gain, very touch sensitive at any setting. for my loud axe, it will just scream and feedback uncontrollably past 2:00 on the gain with 8 on the master volume

The saturation is where this thing shines. There isn't that high end fizz that grates on the ears, or in so.e cases smash speakers to get rid of the sound.

I’ve got one, great amp for $500 😳 best value ever. very hot Pick PU’s in my axe, SD Parallel Axis neck, JB bridge, in a Revstar with wrap around Tone pros bridge. 11:00 o’clock gain, Mid @ 12:00 treble @ 10:30 Bass @ 8:30, master @ 8:30. Classic rock tone with a bit more hair, feedback if you let it, but as you say, add my angry driver, and your ESP playing down tuned ………Same tones. Speaker is a vintage Altec…..think Randy with Ozy Santana also used one in his snakeskin boogie. Nothing like a JBL but very bright nonetheless, deeper cone, Doesn’t move like a JBL, tight bass on a loose amp as you say!🙂

Damned good even without the boost, but the boost does give it that extra bite of sustain while also focussing the tone.

I got the HD30 thanks to a comparison video of yours and it is one of my fav amps for leads. My only quarrel with the amp is that getting the low end to sound massive cab be tough for tight rhythms…Always use the overdrive with the high gain channel. Clean is really good and versatile by the way.

Here we go again, another amp I have to buy thanks to your channel :D Thankfully this one is cheap(er). I preferred the boosted version for sure; the only problem now is, which one? the 15w or 30w? Makes me wonder how 6L6's might affect the tone...also, 30w means it could hang in a band no problem. Get the 30w version and compare it with the 15w!!!

Liking the Wangs tones you have showcased. I’d be curious as to what that output transformer is rated for. I’ve heard of folks minimally modding a Deluxe Reverb by switching out the 6V6 tubes for 6L6s, but the caveat is that you have to replace the OT in most cases to avoid frying it. I wonder how much headroom there is in the HD-15 for that kind of mod, or if it would necessitate a transformer swap too. Excellent work as always!

John, I don't know if anyone has told you but 'wang' is English for a gentleman's particulars. I can say that I watch you playing with your Wangs and it makes me giggle like the immature moron I am. Great video!
