Really good video! My personal favorite 3D Sonic game is Sonic Colors/Ultimate for all of the great memories it has given me, its amazing soundtrack, charming cutscenes, enjoyable level design (especially in the 2D sections), and a very neat gimmick that enhances the level design even further. Unfortunately, though, with the current direction of the series, it's hard to tell if any new game will top Sonic Colors/Ultimate for me, but I will try and remain hopeful.

It sucks what Sega did to Sonic Boom, their decision making destroyed the entire series right at the start. The game that was being made before Sega made the decision of shafting Sonic Boom to the Wii U is excellent it's called Sonic Synergy. I have no idea why Lost World is worse than Forces because Sonic Forces has Lame Bosses, Short Levels, Classic Sonic Physics are weird, Modern Sonic missing his idle animation, the model is Bad, the Box Art is Bad, Infinite is the Worst villains in Franchies, the controls are awful, this game unfinished and finally The Worst Boost Formula. Sonic Forces is worse than Lost World.

While I think Forces is really underwhelming I think it’s honestly way better than Lost World. At least Forces tried to be a Sonic game while Lost World was attempting to appeal to Mario fans. It was even more ashamed of of being a Sonic game and the games’ history than Forces was. The gameplay/level design was extraordinarily generic and boring and the boss fights were pathetic. Music isn’t very memorable either besides a couple tracks. The worst part of Lost World for me though is the story. I legitimately find it offensively bad. All of the characters maybe besides Eggman are misrepresented and terribly written. The phony drama in the game and the incredibly predictable Saturday morning cartoon plot is legit hard to watch for me. I also find the deadly six to be much worse than Infinite. There’s a lot of other reasons but that’s a nice summary of my thoughts. I def get why you think it’s worse though because they are both very undercooked/lifeless experiences

This Sonic Game Ranked I can agree with but the one thing I don’t really agree with is that Sonic Lost World is better than Sonic Forces because Lost World doesn’t really have a story but Forces has a story but it didn’t make that sense and lost World story. The second thing I don’t agree with is having 06 being number 15 in the ranking because it has it’s good or bad like a good thing is that peak ending to Shadows story and the playable characters. The bad is the camera and glitches. So that’s all my problems with the Sonic Ranking this person made. I’m definitely happy my boy put Sonic Heroes in first place because this is my favorite Sonic game ever. Great video Chris!

Another reason why Rise of Lyric isn't as infamous as 06 is 06 was on two consoles that sold extremely well, so it could reach a lot of people. Even if people like the Wii U, the fact is the console did NOT sell well. So not as many people played it. I'd also disagree with what they said about 06 having bad level design. Project '06 barely touched the level design, at most just simplifying puzzles and adding a bit of Sonic's level to Silver's for Blaze. It only fixed the characters and their physics. If I remade Shadow the Hedgehog, for the large collecting levels, I would have the checkpoint series show how many enemies are still in each section. That way you don't have to do as much backtracking. I would like to see a spiritual successor to Black Knight that has more alternate paths like Unleashed and Generations. Marry the best of the boost games with the uniqueness of Black Knight. Secret Rings was my first non-Olympic Sonic game, so I still have bias for it. Though I can understand why people don't. The better reviews were a product of the time. People were happy to accept anything that didn't remind them of 06, so only having playable Sonic and more polish was attractive. Plus, everybody wanted motion controls in their game back then. By the time we got better Sonic games and the motion fad died out, people don't look back on the game as well. I do think Sonic Forces is more of a mediocre game than a bad game, but the game designer in me prefers bad stuff that tried to mediocre. Since everybody loves Unleashed's daytime levels, whether you love the game as a whole depends on your feelings of the werehog. I don't think it's fair to praise the game only for its daytime levels when more than half the game is Werehog. The funny thing is Sega uses Heroes for nostalgia more than Adventure 2. The levels in the Sonic Transformed series, Sonic Dash, the theme song appearing in Lost World briefly, the legacy levels in Black Knight, Egg Pawns returning in Colors. I think one reason the game is so loved is it was the first new game for non-SEGA consoles. For people who were devoted to Nintendo and Sony or took the risk with XBox, this might be the first game and set the standard. My personal list (I will not include games I haven't played to be fair): 14. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - Glitchy, pretty generic, and messed up 13. Sonic Forces - If I don't have fun with the levels, I just can't praise them. I can only credit them for not having too many glitches, but it's probably because they didn't do much to begin with. 12. Sonic Unleashed (Wii) - Pretty fun, but it felt a bit more janky. The HD version looks better, but I won't praise something I haven't played. 11. Shadow the Hedgehog - Physics and level design didn't mesh well together and the objectives felt like a chore. Even so, I'd like to see a similar simplistic shooter with branching paths like this. Just not with a preestablished character and better integration of the plot. 10. Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - I hold a lot of respect for this game for trying Even if it fell on its face. As a game designer, it inspires me to create more than any other Sonic game. Despite this, I can't say I want to play the official version of this game so often. Also playing P-06 plays a part of that because it only changed what was necessary (unlike any remake of Boom or Forces that would be new from the ground up) showing there was something there that needed to be salvaged. 9. Sonic Lost World - Felt like it mixed the elements of boost Sonic and Adventure Sonic. It was fun when it was fun, but a couple levels were too tedious. 8. Sonic Colors - Good gameplay, but the 2D sections felt a bit too precise. I love the idea of revisiting levels after you've unlocked more powerups. 7. Sonic & the Secret Rings - Sorry, but bias got me. Even so, I liked replaying the levels after unlocking the better skills. That system would need to be fixed. 6. Sonic & the Black Knight - Also a victim of nostalgia. I don't think the swordplay is unresponsive usually, but it did need some alternate paths now that it wasn't limited to motion steering. 5. Sonic Heroes - Very fun gameplay style of playing three characters at once. Though the non-Chaotix playthroughs feel too similar to each other (but considering how much Iizuka suffered to make the levels, I wouldn't want them forces to make so many). Preferred when Rivals made it so you didn't have to play four identical playthroughs for the true ending. 4. Sonic Generations - Perfect Love Letter to the franchise, even to the low point of 06. Some of the best levels for the boost gameplay. (Though from a story perspective, I wish it was a celebration of gameplay AND lore and not just the former) 3. Sonic Frontiers - Loved blasting through the open zones. They missed the opportunity to refine Lost World's gameplay like other games, so I hope they continue. 2. Sonic Adventure - The closest 3D Sonic felt to 2D Sonic. Big's missions are overhated, even if the weakest in comparison. Even so, the six playstyles imbalance just barely prevents reaching the top spot. 1. Sonic Adventure 2 - Great story, awesome music, great balance for gameplay of three styles. The most successfully refined Adventure game that I hope we can return to one day.

Explanation for Iizuka: Sonic Heroes had TWO level designers. And then one of them got sick and had to go home. To meet the deadline, Iizuka had to crunch for the last few levels, and it was so much work and stress without sleep, he lost 22 pounds. I don't think any developer should suffer like that. @@jasonblack2477 Yeah i mean thats kind of fair but Final Horizon is amazing. I do think that Frontiers is probably the best sonic game outside of Unleashed though. To be Fair though Frontiers is a miracle and a half given sega and how little they used to care about sonic and some of their devs and now we got so much to look forward to including them doing more quality control with sonic now. The jump from this to whatever frontiers 2 is is gonna be insane i feel. And like i said after frontiers and the movie sega got much better in the money side and now we are also getting JSR remake and new JSR open world game and new Crazy Taxi and new Golden Axe and Shinobi. Sonic Frontiers along with the movie has helped change sega and not only that has had a positive impact overall. Also like i said i think Final Horizon is like the best level design of any sonic game ever. They managed to capture that feeling with the pathways of the 2d games in 3d and this is only the beginning since they aren't abandoning the new formula yet. This is all assuming Sega is actually learning though. Either way New Sonicteam is goated and give them more time and budget and they will make games that are undeniably AAA which is something sonic has never felt since leaving the 2d space outside of Unleashed.

I agree that Black Knight's controls can be misleading, especially for first-time players. But I think Sonic wielding a sword is badass, also his character development in the story. Perfection. Although, I would've loved to have this made not JUST on the Wii, but also the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the time. If they were to remake this now, I would want it on PS5, remastered. That way, I feel successful to get more than the ultimate weapons. I would love to get a platinum trophy.

3:17 Fleshed out characters, my ass, Sonic was a boring plank of wood in this game. Tails was just exposition "the character", Knuckles had zero reason to be there, Amy's main motivation is "looking for Sonic", Eggman is barely a presence in the game, Omega lost all his sass, Blaze might as well not be the same character, Silver is a Knuckles Rehash. Shadow and Rouge are the only ones with decent writing.

Just like sonic unleashed, we call unleashed for ps3/xbox 360 Sonic Unleashed. And the Unleashed for Wii we call sonic unwiished. Almost nobody talks about the ps2 version of unleashed anyways.

I like Sonic 3d blast, it has charm. Also I have nostalgia for it. Admittedly it's not very fast, the platforming is awkward and the levels all having those checkerboard floors makes them feel kinda generic. Somehow I still like it and revisit it to this day.

I've always said my favorite Sonic game is Sonic 2, then Sonic Adventure 2. After that is a close 3rd with Sonic 3 & Knuckles and then Sonic Adventure. In all honesty, this is the order for me, but they're SO CLOSE that if I lined them up it would look like they're all tied. And it depends on the mood I'm in which I gravitate towards in that moment. In terms of a tier list, I considered this a tier that could not ever be surpassed but only joined. I guess the SS tier? No game will ever be "better" than those for me. They will be "as good". I, on a personal level, added Generations to that tier and eventually Mania. My second top tier, I guess this would be the S tier? Or A tier however you do it. That would be games like Sonic Unleashed. Maybe Frontiers. I'm gonna include Heroes and Colors but I'm not sure if that should be just one close tier lower or not. I imagine a single tier has SOME wiggle room... Definitely every other game is at least a tier lower. I really like the Advance trilogy, Battle, Rush games, Riders 1 and 2, CD and Sonic 1 of course. But then you get to the mid tier. Like Forces, Sonic R, Sonic 4, Shadow The Hedgehog, 3D Blast, Lost World. These are games I, personally, can still enjoy, but critically I'm not so impressed with them. The story book games are multiple tiers to me depending on how you judge it. I played the games emulated with a controller which was both easier and harder simultaneously, at least for Secret Rings. Black Knight was fine.

I know im probably gonna get torn apart here for saying this, but Zeti>Infinite Which is sad because i dont like the zeti's boss fights. But i do feel like infinite had... funny enough... infinite potential for his boss fight. I think, in lore, it's his lack of creativity. That's why, when eggman had it, did things start getting interesting. Eggman:Im gonna recreate some of my best inventions and make almost unstoppable obstacles Infinite: imma stab and shoot you and make giant versions of myself. What's even sadder? Infinite's best illusions were because Eggman told him to make them. Null space, metal sonic, chaos, Zavok, and even the sun. He gave the phantom ruby to someone... so uncreative..

I do think that Heroes controls are slippery as walking on ice, but it bother me less than the fact that you have to play the game FOUR TIMES to get the final story, and they don't even change the set of levels for each teams.

@@FanicTheHedgehogYT 2 points to that “fair” argument. #1 is that it’s not really that big of a deal because every time you hit a ledge and you’re about to fly off the game stops you from doing that by doing an animation. #2 is that sonic is fast. All the speed characters are fast so having slippery controls helps with the speed and be able to control the speed characters better at higher speed and that’s why I won’t play Sonic 2 go fast.

@@That_Kasual_Gamer Simple, because all of the campaigns have the same level, but with minor differences, (Dark having more enemies and , Rose just being shorter, and Chaotix being the mission mode of the game), outside of Team Dark because they tried to spice up the difficulty, i didn't have fun playing any of the campaigns, and for some godamn reasons, Heroes decided to had special stages that are ez at first, but frustating in the 2 last chaos emeralds, i know Heroes was a game that was made with.. let's just say a small amount developpers, but they couldv'e atleast gave the teams a different set of levels (Like in SA1), hopefully these changes come in the remake that as been announce, because really want this like game as the other Dreamcast era games.

I think sonic lost world is way better than sonic forces. Black knight way is better than secret rings what are they doing, and 3d blast should be higher up than forces. Honestly I enjoy 06 more than forces sometimes.

i think shadow the hedgehog is over hated and aside from the maria levels i think it’s pretty fun; i do understand all the criticism, though.

I respect about what they had to say about their list. My personal least favorite is probably 3D Blast. I just don’t really like the looks of the game and the gameplay. Boom is also at the bottom for me. My favorite is probably Frontiers. I just like some of the physics, gameplay, OSTs, and the story. Both SAs are also very good and are important to the Canon. Lost World is probably my third least favorite. If I had to pick, my top three would be Frontiers, SA1, and SA2. Great video, Chris!

rise of lyric in my opinion has some of the best locations in Sonic. The Abandoned Research Facility, Crater Lake, Slowpoke Isle, and Creeper Gorge just to name a few
