What a treat! “Let the song lead the way” is my main takeaway. Sounded simple, but these guys show how profound it can really be, thank you!

I really liked how Reuben explained a little what he was doing (also what frequencies he added/took away) while Gavin only said „I like how everything reacts and what has been done“ … would have loved to also hear from him what he did there 😊

It's always a pleasure to see these two masters at work. They have a very particular way of interpreting mastering. By the way, I always use their plugin. It's absolutely great, but so underrated. Thank you!

Great topic! I love practicing mastering. It will be interesting to hear if the talk about analog gear for mastering. Software plugins are constantly improving, but analog gear may still be used a lot by the top mastering engineers.

I am curious what type of sound system I should listen to this on should I use studio monitors or will the lowend still translate on laptop inbuilt speakers?

Shadow Hills Tube Compressor? Is there a new version I don’t know about? 😳
@SonicScoop Жыл бұрын
I believe there is just the shadow hills mastering compressor, and the class A version of it. I would imagine that 99% of people who look at the thing would imagine it must be a tube unit! (The sound of it is also categorically different from most solid state compressors made for mastering.) Just because you are amazing at your craft doesn’t necessarily mean you remember every detail about every piece of gear you own :-) I’ve watched this presentation three times, and not until after it was released did I remember for a second “Oh wait… Is the shadow hills really tube? I have to double check that.” …And I’ve used it in person many times! It really looks like it would be tube, doesn’t it? 😃 Very best, Justin

@@SonicScoop I can assure you It’s a genuine question - reason why is mainly because mine doesn’t have tubes in them. You can appreciate why I’d have such a reaction. Who knows, all the top guys get their stuff costumed all the time so it’s a fair comment to make. And it’s also true that at first glance you’d think it’s tube based so I get that too. Cheers.
