This recording is from their 1973 summer engagement at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. At this time they were very busy between their live shows booking and their television show on CBS. Too bad that there is no video recording of their live performances in Las Vegas that summer. The technology to record and film performances was there but was still very expensive, unlike today where video recording is available everywhere and has become the norm. I love their Neil Diamond interpretation of "Brother Love Traveling Salvation Show" so upbeat, lots of energy, I can just picture skinny Cher on stage wearing a nice gown in Vegas singing this song out loud over Sonny.

@@KillerKojak TY for your nice comment! Sonny was the kind of person that could walk into a room with his natural warm hearted funny way about himself and he would make you forget about your troubles and make you instantly happy again 😊

Something I would have loved to see as he was equally as much a show stopping dresser as Cher was that he didn't cont. to spice it up a bit when he went into politics. I found it hard to see him turn into a straight John. Always loved him but his first love was always his audience and performing politics was clearly the only door that opened. It was so sad when he was interviewed on David and he said without Cher he couldn't get work any where.😢 Seeing he really was the one that paved their way to stardom he must have been devasted. 😊One thing he could can't on was people always loved him.❤

I feel so fortunate I got to see them perform live at the O’Keefe Center in Toronto. The next year ChER was there as a solo act. It so hard to believe their marriage was unraveling despite the chemistry that remained on stage. Does anyone know if any video footage exists of any of their live location shows?!

Sonny /RIP/was Better actor & song writer Than Singer. But He was also good humour. And Cher? She was good humour, too. And She was Million more Sexy. It less She was perfect beauty from She's Face to feet & shoes. And Her Voice was much Million Better Than Sonny. And at last She was much Million Better actress. But together They were the Top No. 1.

@Marton Szabo: I think she followed his lead, in fact she has said many times that she learned a lot about the business from her ex-husband Sonny Bono. She had also said over and over that there wouldn't be a Cher without Sonny because she wanted to sing and be famous but was too shy and insecure, it was Sonny who groomed her and pushed her to the stage. On their television act and at the lounge clubs he was the butt of the jokes about his height, his Italian background but the truth is he was the genius behind the act. He created Sonny and Cher. She picked up after the divorce and went on in show business but he initiated the act, the song writing, the hit songs, the contracts and engagements in the 1960's and early 1970's.

@@marcelclark5860 What You were writing It's all truth. And I know well. Sonny /RIP/was a great entertainer, I was writing this. I was writing hat that, His Voice was less good, Than His ex-wife. I think, It's not a crime, isn't it.? I loved Them, I love Them and I will Always Love Them. They're my No. 1 duo, and Cher my No. 1 Solo female singer. Ugh.

I still don’t understand why they got divorced. What was it that broke them apart?

Cher started an affair or perhaps a fling, apparently quite openly with Greg Allman of the Allman Bros and that dynamited the relationship. What a dumb move.

@@davejohnson-yi2rkoh this couldn’t be further from the truth. Cher left Sonny for a multitude of reasons - not the least of which was that she was unhappy. There’s even been implications that Cher was so unhappy - and with Sonny telling her that America would hate her for breaking them up - that she considered suicide. She ended up getting guidance and support from Lucille Ball, who had left her own Sonny with Desi. With the perspective of hearing both sides over the years, I would venture to say that the main reason was that Cher grew up and Sonny didn’t get that. She was 16 when they met and she needed someone to take her hand and lead her into the spotlight - literally and figuratively. I think both spoke in the 70s about her needing protection and to be taken care of, and Sonny wanting to give her that. But as she grew and wanted/needed more freedom to make her own decisions and do her own things, Sonny didn’t understand that or know how to give her that. During their divorce, Cher found out that he had made her an employee of Cher Enterprises - Sonny owned 95% and their lawyer the other 5%. Now, do I think that Sonny intended the “involuntary servitude” that Cher sued him with? No. I think that he believed they’d be together forever and he’d continue to take care of her and their finances and so he truly didn’t believe he was screwing Cher over. Of course as stated, this is all from outside perspective and from what both have shared with the public over the years - as with all things, the truth is somewhere in between. In terms of infidelity, I truly believe that the majority of that was - admittedly - on Sonny’s side. But again, I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle. However, Cher didn’t meet Gregg until their divorce was underway. And before that, Cher was with David Geffen and Sonny with Connie Freeman.

Interesting how the entire concert is a mere 1 hour! Also, they have some of the cheesiest scripted "banter" between songs! So the entire concert is considerably less than 60 minutes and the audience was undoubtedly paying considerably more than the average Rock concert goer back then. Sonny should've known that at some point the considerably younger Cher would've left him, because except for that first song her wrote "You Babe" , he wasn't a songwriter and not much of a singer and so after a while, it was she who carried their "Show" and far outstripped him in popularity. Also, I felt it was sad that he kept playing the buffoon as that's how the audience started to view him - also, that she went "full Vegas" with outlandish outfits that attracted a largely gay crowd. When you have real talent, you don't need those silly props.
