The bananas summoned the game wardens though. Lucky they didn't summon the landlord.

Looks like a nice time! And the warden was super thoughtful, training that other guy about making sure they don't make a sinking situation for a kayaker. I guess I missed what someone said you got busted for a banana? How's that something? And yeah, they probably shouldn't have touched the equipment.

@@hansemcito The video involving the wardens was obviously cut, so we can just speculate. Maybe they informed that dude (his friend) standing on the right or even Moomoo himself. But in my state (NJ), during initial contact the wardens only ask for the owner to "show this, open that, etc". They know enough not to touch personal properties and caught fish even if they suspect false bottoms and other shenanigans. They can only ask, but not reach in; that's why we usually lay bare all catch for easy measurement. If they find a possible violation, they only touch what's involved and nothing else.. That warden playing with that rod is a no-no in my state. Even if they want to inspect an illegal type of hook, it's easy to see without handling it... And how the lady handled the dead caught fish?! Oh my god, it will lead to a supervisor being called here in NJ. Dead fish is easily bruised.

@@MooMooOutdoors i appreciate you replying and clarifying things. i think its important because i basically respect the work that CDFW do. i dont think people like you and i would react with craziness to this, but many other just might. as follow up, it would still be good to know if they can search like that without consent and if not, maybe you can kindly let them know about this video and the stuff you edited out. they can use the feedback to improve their training and behavior.

Great haul and video as always. I do have to say, while it’s possible other interactions didn’t make the edit, I wouldn’t be cool with the unattended check by CDFW. Not that I wouldn’t consent, but more so I don’t want them handling and near tripping on my expensive gear. Is this normal?

Seems like F&G in your state of NJ has it right. Hard to find info and no longer being a California resident, I have no fishing license containing any fineprint to read. I have however found a couple of accounts stating that if they have reasonable suspicion that you are engaged in hunting or fishing, it automatically gives them right to search your boat, etc. I don't know what sort of wording is in the actual law but I wouldn't doubt there's nothing that would require them to be "respectful" of property or to warn you of their impending search. Kind of a shame because while all the wardens I've ever met have been cool, there would be no doubt some bad actors that might show unneeded force simply because there's no law that requires them to have "tact". Knowing this, next time I bring my kayak to California while visiting family.. If I leave my gear unattended, I'll secure my gear, open hatches, make my catch easily accessible, etc. If I don't, then walk away and I find that a warden breaks a $400 rod while searching my kayak and he acts like he's not responsible, I'd be beyond livid.

@@slacktide_angler As for enforcement wise, there were a lot of changes for the past 6-7. In my opinion for the better since we have a lot of community members who are part of the different commissions, boards, etc... But it's getting harder and harder to catch fish because of pollution, high human population density, and the advent of we call "bucket brigades". So some of us who can afford it are going off shore and even on deeper water.
