I hope you had Navigation lights on out their in that fog. I was motoring and came up on three boats that were drifting fishing off of Davenport without lights on. I did not see any of them till I was right on top of them. Lights on in fog are a necessity. I would hate to have a close call with a kayaker because I did not see them. I have a full cabin so chances are I would not hear someone yell till it was too late. Safety first, last and always.

Every once in a while, we'll get some thick fog surround us down here in SoCal. Really dense - like you had - where you could get claustrophobic. Definitely visibility less than 15 yards. I keep my head on a swivel like running down on kick-off teams in case a boat nearby does not see me. Lights and whistles or horns could help. Wear very bright colors, too. Take nothing for granted! And, BTW, nothing like a petrale sole!

Nice catch! Motorized kayak, motorized reel. What's next? Adam, I watched the Alaskan Adventure posted by Taku the other day. I got a riddle for you. Hopefully nobody gets offended. What do you get if you take a female in Alaska salmon fishing? Ans: You got a COHO🙂.

So glad you finally got 2 bucket list species. You can definitely see that you had 2 species of sole. I'm always a little tentative when you are out in that low visibly because of the threat of being run over. I've told other channels that the electric reels sound like a cross between a blow dryer and a blender Lol. I don't find them annoying but I know to some they probably are. Great video Adam and I really appreciate the effort ❤

Actual flounder. I grew up catching flounder on the east coast. When I had my sail boat I'd go over this one shoal (Lucas Shoal) in the vineyard sound and drift with a similar rig and catch one or two per drift. Cook em up on my magma grill on the rail of the sailboat. Head into Menemsha pond. Life is good with flounder. Nice to see you heading out of my port. I haven't taken my kayak out but planning on it this weekend.

Appreciate the honest review on the kayak. I’m just wondering how loud that electric reel really is? Sounds pretty loud on the video, starts to compete with your voice. But how loud would you say it is when you’re using it? Maybe it’s just the microphone that makes it sound extra loud? Awesome video, cool to see those species that big. Nice job. 🦨 🦨 🦵🏻 🦨 🗑️ 🔥 👍🏻 💪🏻 🤙🏻

The only bummer about the electric reel is any fish that comes up beyond 80 feed dies from the pressure change. Those descenders dont work. They die anyway. Maybe if the trauma isnt terrible.. but no. It kills em for sure
@thomasneal9291
@thomasneal9291 7 күн бұрын
you can deflate the swim bladder by using a syringe needle. works great. but yeah, if they come up too quick, there is just too much damage already.
@thomasneal9291
@thomasneal9291 7 күн бұрын
again, it's just the swimbladder that inflates due to the decreased pressure. it works great to use a syringe needle to deflate it and the hole will heal over very quickly. don't know why fish and game are demanding the use of these weight and hook systems.
@TimLPINE

From the CDFW barotrauma webpage- "What To Do: Venting, Deflating or "Fizzing" are terms which refer to releasing excess gas within the swim bladder by inserting a hypodermic needle into the swim bladder. Although this is a familiar practice among fishermen (or commonly practiced by fishermen), it is discouraged. Problems and concerns [of puncturing the swim bladder]: -Can cause internal damage to the swim bladder and other organs. -Can lead to infection -Reduces fish’s ability to regulate gas volume leading to changes in behavior after release.

we fish deep for Groper here in NZ, and I can tell you JUST hauling the 1lb weight up and down 200 feet or more will wear you out completely after half a dozen pulls. I most certainly would pay for an electric if I could afford it.

I remember you carrying your kayak out to the beach , paddling out (manually) dropping a line and cranking in what you caught. That is fishing. Lies, greed, deception and corruption seem to be the norm these days. UNFORTUNATELY
