After some playing time on my Sonor Bop kit in red sparkle: love it especially the bass drum has a nice full fat sound. I alternate snare drums between the snare drum furnished with the kit, and a Ludwig Venus Carl Palmer Signature snare drum depending on what music I'm playing and the mood. Really a nice kit for the money. I use Remo coated Ambassador batter heads on the toms, the original batter head on the supplied wood shell snare drum, Remo Powerstroke 3 batter/Remo Fiberskyn resonant heads on the bass drum, and on the Ludwig Carl Palmer snare drum an Evans Calftone '56 batter head.

Saw a drummer playing one of these kits (in the red sparkle finish) at a jazz gig..they sounded great. Nice playing Mr. Benek.

Very nicely tuned! I'm considering buying one, although I'm not a real jazz player but more a rock/blues/fusion :P I hope this kit will fit my playing style ;D

how low can the toms be tuned? And how long will they keep their tuning? I'm not that hard of a hitter and I need a portable cheap and great sounding kit for rock.

Hi there! Which heads would you recommend to get the biggest sound out of these drums? Thanks :)

Using a Tam iron cobra 600 pedal on the same kit. A bit of over kill. Should I get a drum riser

if there is anyone out there who has tried the bop and the safari could you let me know which you prefer and why? I've got a Select Force 22" Stage kit which is great but looking for a more compact kit and wanted to know how the bass drums match up. From videos I've seen the Safari seems to have a bit more thump but I like the slightly larger toms on the Bop kit. Great channel, great drumming, thanks.

How much mixing was done for this recording? ..because this kit sounds amazing for poplar wood.

I own this kit and it really doesn't sound too bad... probably on par with (or almost as good as) a Gretsch Catalina kit

I own one.. Proper heads and a tune up and it's good to go.. It can take a beating too.

I own a Bop and have owned a Catalina. I absolutely prefer the Sonor! And this clip does justice to the Bop. Well tuned and well played!

a friend and I A-B'd his yahama birch kit with a ludwig black beauty and my sonor bop with 60"s superphonic, both had evans single ply coated, both sounded so similar, we both concluded my FT sounded better, fuller, deeper tone, both hi toms and BD's were amazingly the same.

The CZ tests are the best, because they use only overhead micros to get the real sound, not a fake sound!

Is this a good jazz drum kit? Or the grestch bop fits more the jazz style?
@DRUMCENTERCZ7 жыл бұрын
you can use this kit as "jazz kit", but for me Gretsch Catalina Club works little bit better :)

@DRUMCENTERCZ8 жыл бұрын
+Anzelle De Wet on the tom toms and snare are Remo Ambassador coated heads, on the bass drum are "factory" heads, type Powerstroke 3 clear as batter, and black as reso head.

Minor.. I've had this size kick for 10 years and have gigged with it almost every week since then.. I sometimes pound the crap out of it and i still get a great sound.. I have a pretty standard beater height on my pedal, and it barely misses the middle.. It's like about an inch or so higher.. Furthermore, there was a Gibraltar riser that came with it when i bought it, and when i installed it, it tilted the kick further down at the front, making the drum sit uneven on the floor.. Even Sonor's riser isn't the best thing for this kick, and i'll tell you why.. If you notice, most small kick drums have the telescoping spurs, making for more adjustable angles, whereas the Sonor spurs don't. Thousands of drummers of the past have never used a riser, and their kick drums sounded great.. However, with today's smaller diameter kicks like 16" and even Sonors Martini at 14", a riser is necessary.. For this one, it really isn't..

thanks for your input. I have a Pearl Jazz Bop kit, 18" kick, came with a 6" beater which is cool. no lift, which is fine. i put a Remo Powerstroke Pro coated head on the kick. sounds incredible. the only kick head i will use from now on.
