Great video! What Tom arms are you using here. I’m relatively new to Sonor and will need both short and long Tom arms. Much appreciated!🔥🔥🔥

Thank you, those are tom arms from Sonor as they have this hex L-rod thing that is exclusive to them. Kind of sucks you can't use round L-Rods. Tama hardware is superior in my opinion.

Awesome drum kit! How do you like the SQ2 compared to the a Starclassic Maple? What were your factors in selecting the SQ2 Beech over others such as DW Collectors, Tama Star or Pearl Masterworks?
@MrNickDrummer Жыл бұрын
Thank you! To me DW is over-hyped. The toms sound muddy though microphones. Tamas are great but I always wanted to try SQ2s. Pearls are okay but I'm not a fan of their tom sounds. I had a Pearl kit before my Tamas. The thin beech has a very even tone on all frequencies so it sounds very natural and 'round' so to speak. The Sonor hardware isn't the best as it is very heavy and their hex L-rods are horrible as they're short, weird measured and limit a bit the positioning flexibility. Tama and Pearl hardware are hands down the best, but in terms of sound, SQ2s are very unique, it's a tone I can't hear from any other brands, and they compliment the music very well. Super easy to tune as well. Floor toms need some clever dampening as they simply sustain for minutes - not good when it's time for mixing. Overall, thin beech SQ2s are in a league of their own soundwise.

@@MrNickDrummer Thanks for the detailed feedback. I’ve heard great things about the SQ2s. That’s one of the kits I’m considering. I currently play a Starclassic Bubinga.

Thanks, that is a great kit you have. As for sound, I won't say the SQ2s are "better" or not. They are just different. No die cast hoops btw.

I've been hell-bent on getting thin birch with birds eye maple matte finish inside and out because I love hybrid shells but the more I hear the thin beech the more I'm really starting to like it. Can't wait to see the rest of this! So, thin beech on the toms and medium on the bass? Or did you go with the vintage build on the bass drum? I don't understand why Sonor won't offer a moderately thinner bass drum as an option, but it's okay to build an uber-thin vintage bass shell with re-rings?
@MrNickDrummer2 жыл бұрын
I chose medium on the bass drum because they are 24" and they don't have reinforcement rings like my previous Tama Starclassic Maple had. So it's more of a durability minded choice than anything else. I went with shallower bass drums (14" deep) to get more punch on recordings. As for the toms and floor toms, I do like the thin beech shells a lot, and they are a different animal when mixing the audio, compared to the Tama maple shells I had. I'm still getting used to them. I have now 2 covers with this kit so far on this channel. Thanks!
