definitely many sony tv owners would benefit with higher speed ethernet port on TV for streaming bravia core. The Pure Stream feature requires an Internet speed of at least 43 Mbps. To enjoy at the highest speed of 80 Mbps, you need an Internet speed of 115 Mbps or faster.
@unextro11 күн бұрын
Exactly. Plus connecting an external box is not an alternative since the Sony Pictures Core service works only on Sony hardware. Also, for example Sony A95L has notorious stability issues with external USB ethernet adapters, even after the recent update which finally brings the multiview functionality that was promised since the TV's announcement.

Music Video - sync'd across house - that would be putting Sonos to video. Even all content sync'd. With streaming and you have multiple TVs in multiple rooms it is difficult to get and keep them in snyc. Was not an issue in the old cable tv days. Sonos brought music sync to rooms - if they could do the same for video it would be huge.

I owned some of the best Pioneer and Pioneer Elite universal players, including a DV-58AV from 2007, BDP-23FD and BDP-320 from 2009, and BDP-52FD from 2011. As much as I regret parting with them, once I got into 4K UHD Blu-ray, they were just sitting there. In order to upgrade from a plasma to a Dolby Vision compatible TV, I knew I had to sell them so I could afford the new TV sooner. The only thing I'm wondering is whether or not I could have gotten more money for them if I had listed them in dedicated places other than Ebay auctions.

Re Vintage Hi-Fi gear from the 70/80's as a retired A/V tech i can at last indulge in my hobby of refurbishing the better samples of the H-Fi boom era. The very best receivers in full working condition now attract hefty price tags, even the better mid range models are no longer cheap to buy. If you have any sitting in storage, don't just leave them to just gather dust, either have them serviced or sell them, where there's dust there's money. I am a bit biased, but to my ears they sound way better than today's unrepairable gear that relies on custom i/c's that are not easy to find or replace that give a wall of sound that quickly becomes tiring to listen to.

Whether A Sonos streaming Box is adding something to what is already existing is for me depending on the functionality it offers. If the box should support - the usual video streaming services - the current music streaming services they support in their current platform - a media player functionality for local content - all HDR formats, DTS and Immersive Dolby Atmos - last but not least and most important more configuration options with their current product line of speaker systems. As it is today only the Arc and Beam 2 support Dolby Atmos which can be extended with a pair of rears and subwoofers. To me that's a limitation. If the streaming box also would act as a Sonos Dolby Atmos compliant hub supporting/allowing more speaker configurations it would be very interesting to me. I would like to build a configuration with 4 or 5 ERA 300 and 2 x Gen 3 subwoofers. I expect it would give me a more immersive audio and home cinema experience compared to a configuration with the ARC, were the ARC is a serious limitation to achieve that. The ERA 300 outperforms the ARC on this expect. As far as I know Sonos is the only third party able to stream and Apple Music in Dolby Atmos. Such a configuration as I mentioned would support for me two relevant use cases: 1. Home cinema playback and streaming with Dolby Atmos. 2. Music streaming with the possibility for Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio. This controlled with one Sonos app (assuming Sonos will repair the current issues) would very comfortable. Currently I stream Apple Music spatial audio via an Apple TV 4 to my Dolby Atmos compliant Homecinema receiver with B&W 8 series speakers and 2 Rell subs. That sounds ok, but the user interface controlling the Apple with an iPhone without switching on a TV is rather clumsy. Amazing how a 3 trillion-dollar company is still not able to build a seamless interface/app to support a logical use case for (spatial) music playback. I had the opportunity to have a Sonos system with an Arc, 2 ERA 300 and 2 Gen 3 subs sitting for 2 months next to my traditional system. To my surprise the Sonos system with the ERA 300 outperformed my traditional system on Homecinema surround. The surround soundstage is much more immersive and powerful. The ERA 300's are the differentiator, they deliver a strong performance on this aspect. The Arc on its own with Subs is not that impressive and is just a soundbar with its limitations. On Music playback it's just the other way around. In that case the B&W's with the Rell's deliver a much stronger, more detailed and more musical/open soundstage. On the low end also the GEN 3 deliver a solid performance and came very close to the Rell's. I am looking now for a system that's less intrusive into the living of our new house. Because for me this is now the main disadvantage of having traditional Homecinema system. This is the reason I am wondering how a complete set up with 4 or 5 ERA 300 and 2 Gen 3 subs controlled by a supporting hub/box would perform and could replace my current traditional system with out to many sacrifices.

Is Sonos rumored "streaming box" actually an HT-A9 style control box that allows TV sounds to be sent to the box, then wireless transmitted to Sonos speakers? If true that would be a very interesting concept. One such box plus 4x Era 300 plus one or more Sonos sub will be an awesome Dolby Atmos home theater combo, potentially much better than the current "ultimate surround set" based on Arc.

Great video. Get ready with your TLDR's. I don't think tv's need physical NIC's at all. WIFI 6E and 7 are more than enough right now and as you mentioned, streaming boxes provide a fairly inexpensive solution to a limited NIC setup. The person needing 1gb or more, is probably an enthusiast that already has strong wifi or a streaming device. As for Sonos, I'm a huge fan, but I'm not sure who they are listening too. I have to imagine that they are listening to people that don't buy Sonos and most likely never will. You know, the person that is on their second or third set of Airpods that will tell Sonos to make headphones, but when Sonos does, they buy the next Airpod. I bought the Sonos Ace, not really because I thought they were better than the competitors, but because I'm into the Sonos ecosystem and I like Sonos. The catch is though, the Sonos Ace doesn't really add to the Sonos ecosystem, it's just a Bluetooth headset on par with bose, sony and airpods, whose only trick is that it can swap the sound playing on a Sonos soundbar to play on the Ace, but it is a swap, and cannot play both on the soundbar and Ace at the same time. Sonos should be listening to people that own multiple pieces of Sonos gear. We are their best advertisers. I have 17 pieces of gear in my Sonos ecosystem, and I will continue to expand or replace pieces, especially as the Mayht technology gets integrated into the system. The two things I'm looking for from Sonos, is a higher end soundbar, which might just be the Arc, with Mayht drivers. Then it would be nice to have something that is like a whole home preamplifier or a receiver that replaces my receiver, which could incorporate a streamer, but we don't need a separate streamer. As it is now, I have a $1500 receiver and a port that combines my theater with my whole home setup. I'd rather just have a Sonos command center that replaced my receiver/port.

With Manufacturers like Samsung, Hisense and even Amazon TVs partnering with Nvidia and or Microsoft to implement GeForce Now / Xbox one would think where even the wireless isnt the greatest when it comes to promoting gaming with streaming one would think having the 100/1000 would be not only the forefront but crucial to the marketing I mean it's the company's that are choosing to have Operating systems on there like Google TV which uses these promoted Apps ..outside of their own basic TV interfaces so why not use all the tools ?

SONOS making a streaming box would be a huge strategic mistake. SONOS making a premium Android box wouldn’t sell well when competing directly with an Apple TV. There is a reason why NVIDIA hasn’t made another Shield. It’s not a high volume item that sells and with iPhones being the dominant player in the US it wouldn’t make sense to make a high end Android box. Taking the iPhone out of the equation most are just happy with their $20-$50 streaming devices or built in apps on their TV.
@hamsterbrigade18 күн бұрын
I would absolutely be interested in a premium Android box, either that or a chromecast option on Apple TV. Right now I'm in no man's land. As for NVIDIA making a new shield...i think its way more about them directing their focus to the Ai thing that's making them so much money its not even funny. They also walked away from game streaming.
@BruceRichwineJr18 күн бұрын
@@hamsterbrigade there definitely would be an interest from a small minority, but we all know that a SONOS built box will come at a premium that would be hard to justify. You would lose functionality with their already said devices, specifically AirPlay. Google assistant on their speakers has gradually gotten worse over time too. Amazon Alexa is the only thing that gives full support of all your products on SONOS speakers and that isn’t saying much by how bad it’s gotten either.
