a tip for people who are going to use the zipline to transport logs. if you put a log holder under it the logs will magnetically enter it. it works with multiple holders

For the rope bridge you don't need to build a wall I don't think, it just needs to be a horizontal log wich counts as a "beam" by the game, so placing two vertical logs (any length) and one horizontal between-on top of them will let you build the rope bridge. So for a low bridge over a river or something just use 2 of 1/4 logs with a full log on top.

Good for when you first start and don't have the resources or time to make a defensive wall, you can make stick spikes in the ground by placing sticks and hitting them with your axe.

Cool tip with the Zipline to make it go even farther is to be as far away as possible from your attach point and shoot it. Then go to your end point to right before it breaks and shoot it as far as you can in that direction. To find the max distance you will need to place anything such as a log to mark right before it breaks

Heres another tip for advanced building, if you wait until winter and lake freezes you can build on the ice and once the ice melts you'll have a floating canibal proof base. I used this technique to get rope bridge across the lake as it doesnt quite reach the island except for one specific spot so now I have two rope bridges to the island where I am building my base.

Hey just a cool little thing with water building, if you build on the ice during winter it negates having to do the long janky water steps and auto completes the supports when it thaws

You can throw logs into log holders and they will auto-deposit. You can cook burnt food and it will become cooked again. There's a bug with shelves that let you use the same log over and over on them, I made a ranch style fence made of shelves lol.

Spiked logs in a maze pattern at the door is all you need to protect your door. AI can’t walk around the spikes and the logs keep them back, it’s mega safe and looks cool

Bridges with Spikes at each entrance makes for a unique barrier since they don't attack the floor boards of the bridge, they can't target it, but they can target the log itself that the bridge is attached to. So just secure the bridge ends and you have a giant wall barrier that NPCs can't path over. You don't even need a wall, just a long bridge that has half log blocks (you can use full, 3/4, or 1/2 log as boards for your bridges).

Little tip when sending logs down the zip if you put logs holders down the end where your sending Logs they will catch them beats having them disappearing on having cannibals flogging them on you

Build a Zip Line over the Log holder and when the log falls out it goes into the holder and this works with multiple log holders next to each other (Haven't tested the Limit, 5 works.) This makes it so that you can travel logs from a distance without ruining your view by using these as waypoints. Logging camp has 5 holders under the starting zipline, Waypoint has 5 holders, then the build area has 5 holders. When moving logs down the line you just take them from the holder and put them on the line to the next, travel to the waypoint via the Zipline, grab any strays (seems to only happen if the zipline is near the max size, the logs never miss if it is shorter) and send them down the line. You can have Kelvin make a pile of logs in the logging area that you then just move down the zip lines in a load of 30, I haven't tried this in multiplayer but I think it would work out great.

you can actually build on frozen water in the winter, just build the foundation during wintertime, once the ice melts, your structure will just float and you can keep building on your existing floor pieces. saw it in a yt video by a guy named TotalXclipse

If you leave the game and rejoin and had logs on the ground and go to any log storage, you'll pull out logs but the storage wont go down for a while. My theory is that when you leave the game stores all free logs in a log storage if you have one.

Had the double angle logs as stairs in my base and Lenny walked up them to 2nd floor without hesitation. Also babies jump through small spaces in walls and also windows! Don't build windows on 1st floor unless you want a dozen babies rolling around inside!

Me and my friend used the scaffolding technique to build a 20 storage high tower... it Took some time and our scaffolding used around 300-400 Logs maybe they come up with some better techniques

I actually love ziplines a lot. I used them to go from my base that is near the modern axe to the top of the snow mountain like a subway and then I can do the book glitch to travel from there.

So someone figured out you can get through any key card door with a stick. And you can slide down all drops pretty much by starting to slide and then pulling out the book. Look for The Spiffing Brit video. He does not spoil the end but does get there :D in 17 minutes with just a stick LOL They should patch it soon.

You don't need to build like that in water just wait or sleep till its winter away from the water you want to build in let the water freeze then build on the frozen water when it unfreezes you will still have the foundation there and then you can build on top of it

no what you mean is custom foundations and plattforms. these got removed and replace with this new freeform building system which of course does simply not work in deep water. and given they removed rafts aswell you simply cannot make a true deep water base anymore currently. this might change but given the design of the island and there beeing pretty much no more offshore islands aside near the penninsula southeast and there beeing NOTHING in the water aside the shark liveboat on the entire map i am pretty sure they removed rafts on purpose. but maybe well get the glider back. it would work really well on this map.

this isnt the reason for the sled missing. you could always send logs down a zipline. even in the old game. this really isnt new at all. the only new thing is beeing able to send things both ways without needing a 2nd zipline now. sadly in exchange you need a tool now to even make ziplines and they put this tool into one of the 4 caves in the game and you must explore this cave to explore 2 of the other 2 caves.... its pretty stupid and linear currently sadly. i hope they place the rope cannon outside somewhere with an update. key items really need to be reshuffled a fair bit and the game needs ALOT more caves than currently.

Very slight counterpoint is that you can busy yourself with mass transportation of logs while Kelvin fills the dozen or so holder you have in your build area at the other end. But yeah, they need to bring back extendable storage bins like they had in The Forest. They do a neat thing here in that logs will auto-install if you throw them into the holder; might be able to build a few at a zip line’s terminus so the logs store themselves.

not to be rude here but these really are not ADVANCED tips at all. they are all pretty basic. the double log pickup made me lol tough. people really dont get that one by themselfs? overall good video for forest newbies but definitly not advanced. something for the wall torch : you can place these even inside bunkers and caves. same for drying racks and stuff. thus the only actual safe bases are inside the fixed bunkers currently. all outdoor bases arent safe anymore. i build a base on one of those small rock islands that are off shore on the southreastern part of the map (the only true islands in the game currently) which are surrounded by ocean water which never freezes over. its not possible to get a zipline over to the island devs made sure about that distance wise sadly and you cannot walk over. and swimming breaks the line. however you can make a log launcher like the old game with a zipline and launch the logs over to the islands shore where theyll float ready to be picked up or with some very bit of swimming only. then you can build on an actual island. sadly : the current enemy spawn system WILL spawn enemies at your building site if its not underground. even on this island that no enemy can reach on foot they just starting spawning ON the island and even on the logs that where floating in the ocean water. thus dont listen to any video claiming 100% safety outside. it doesnt exist currently due to lack of custom foundations and rafts from the old game.
