You can also program spaces in between notes entered by holding shift and pressing the arrow keys. Great tutorial!

I discovered that it only turns on when you enter the higher time signatures. I was having the exact same problem and I was messing around to see if I could figure it out all of a sudden it was on and I realized that you can’t use it in quarter notes. But once you go into eighths and up it functions. I do not believe however that it works in triplicates

Holding shift while turning the grey/white knob gives you even more bite patterns. Also shift and blue/ green activates crank, allowing you to drone

True, using shift opens up a lot o the OP-1! I missed a lot in this video...less prepared ;)
@sebastienbarre
@sebastienbarre 10 ай бұрын
Just a clarification for those reading the above comment, Shift+Grey/White does not quite create new/different bite patterns per se -- this is the same pattern as the one you were on before engaging Shift, as far as the ratios are concerned, but shifted one beat to the left or right as you turn the knob left or right. Makes for some interesting variations nonetheless.

with the op-1 field being my first entrance into teenage engineering and this new workflow, i must say these videos are 100 percent amazing. Just a small idea for the newbies, when youre doing a tutorial on the endless sequencer, doing the intro if you could show the process of how to get to the endless sequencer that would be a big help for future videos :) thanks!

Yes, of course you can press all at once too. I was just making clear that they have to overlap for them to be entered on the same step. If that makes any sense :)

Endless would be instantly improved if it was activated and deactivated by tapping shift once rather than holding it. Also, you should be able to scroll to and edit any beat with the twist of a knob - say, after listening through your sequence, you notice you made a mistake on beat 20, so just scroll to 20, delete whatever notes are stored there then replace it with the correct ones. You can kind of do this now but it's inconvenient and difficult, you can't correct a pattern you have already saved, you can only correct while you're going recording the pattern, if you want to correct after saving then you have to record the entire sequence again. You should also be able to start the sequence from any beat number, not just one.
@SONWU
@SONWU 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed...it can be very frustratin...I'd much rather they improved the pattern sequencer though...it would be a great piano-roll
@armando9740
@armando9740 2 жыл бұрын
@@SONWU Yes. I actually thought they were going to correct endless on the Field, with tap on tap off. Piano roll would be great. Something I thought of is that it could use the number keys, where each number key holds a sequenced bar, eight bars total, then you can jump from bar to bar by hitting the number keys. Some people would argue that Finger does this, but its input method is somewhat difficult. What other ideas do you have for it? How does your Field's screen look in real life? Mine isn't flat black, it's a little bright around the edges. I contacted Teenage Engineering, and they told me, verifying it with a picture, that all the screens look similar. I actually think the screen on the OP-1 2nd version looks better, it's completely flat black.
@DanChippendaleMusic
@DanChippendaleMusic Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I was playing with it last night and it's fiddly as hell to hold shift, press > and remember not only the notes you want to play but also the rests in between. It would make so much more sense to just have a shift toggle to enter record mode, then a matrix like in the Finger sequencer that as you enter the notes and rests, it adds a new light grey box to the grid with either a white dot for a note and a light grey one for the rests. Then you could easily scroll through the grid (up to 128), select, audition, amend, delete any of them until you're happy. Would be good if you could add probability to notes/rests too for some Elektron style stuff. I'm a UI designer so have loads of ideas for a bit of a UI overhaul. Make the tracks of the tape far bigger for a bloody start!

Awesome video. I love the Endless. Quick question. If you throw down your sequence, and you're digging it, but realize that maybe you want to add more to it, can you? I assume not because as soon as you hit "shift" it basically restarts, and wipes your previous sequence, right?
@SONWU
@SONWU 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, as far as I know it just restarts. Unforgiving :)

hello, I have loaded several samples to the op-1 field. The problem is that at some point, it doesn't charge me anymore. If I check the op-1 disk with the mac it tells me that it has a capacity of 6.43 GB, and that 5.32 GB remain free. With all that free space still remaining (the 5.32GB) I don't understand why it doesn't load anymore.....

A bit off topic, but in the FINGER sequencer(s), while a pattern is playing you can press the left and right arrows. It puts a +1, or -2 or however many times you tap the arrow key, on the screen. I was hoping this was transpose like in the arpeggio sequencer, but it's not. Anyone know what this does. You can't a positive or negative number for either monkey or either human in the given sequencers. I have no idea what this is doing an I've researched the internet and manual for hours.

Great video as always dude, nice one! Just a quick Q for yourself and other Field users... I keep having issues with my left / right buttons in the endless sequencer and everywhere else: sometimes one press will either trigger nothing, or it will trigger two steps, making it frustrating in endless and tape mode as I'll skip steps without realising. Do you or anyone else have a similar issue with their Field?
@SONWU

I have noticed something similar with my rec button...since I just got this unit as a replacement I will give it 2 weeks or so to see if I send it back or not. Yeah, worst case, you gotta send it in :/

Personally, I’m not a fan of the Endless sequencer. It definitely has some cool capabilities between the transposition and tempo after the fact, etc, and it’s definitely cool for some purposes, but composing on it just irritates me. Having to sit there tapping out my rhythms with arrows for the rests/note durations without missing a single beat just gets frustrating. It’s so much easier to compose on the OP-Z, and then use that as a “template” when transcribing it into endless… but then why not just use the OP-Z to send midi to the OP-1 synth/sampler?
@SONWU
