I would really like your opinion on this lens vs. the Tamron 35-150. Especially with the Tamron being slightly cheaper abd faster.

Nice review again. Just one clarification, you wondered how Sony managed to add so much hardware whilst reducing the size and weight. Obviously it's a great engineering feat, but Sony has been saying on their slides of the XD linear motors that they not only make AF much faster and silent, but they also allow a size reduction.
@learningcameras2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for adding that! Good point

I played it in one of the HK showrooms with an A7IV (was a surprise as a demo unit already in after one day of official announcement) and felt the outer barrel material is more plasticky? Something gonna give for nearly 200g off v1. AF speed is crazy. Bokeh seems nicer. I am checking out the JPG now as I forgot to change it to RAW when I play tested it at Sony HK showroom.
@bigboi362 жыл бұрын
Congrats Sony. One thing we need to realize with the advent of more mirrorless solutions, it also means that the robustness of previous gear will need to be compromised due to weight. With Sony's lighter weight, smaller bodies the lens will need to reflect that with a more plastic feeling. I however love robust lenses. Love Zeiss and Voigtlanders especially. The only way I see rugged lenses continue, but lighter weight materials outside of metal bodies, is the use of Carbon Fiber. However cost would be prohibitive.

I think there is in HK . But a new v1 dropped heavily in price already. So trade-in price will be ridiculously low. I walk-in one of the HK showrooms today and the pre-order of 100+ units was nearly all gone in less than 1 day (started yesterday)!
@christianhizon7952 жыл бұрын
@@wingcreator The market value will be the same here in the PH, but I won't suspect a heavy price drop here as Sony system is the most in demand here from what i'm seeing.

I've seen some subpar bokeh samples from this lens. By that I mean that circular highlights (bokeh balls) have pronounced onion ring shapes inside. Has that been your experience? Would it be possible to see some hi-res samples of the bokeh?
@learningcameras5 ай бұрын
I did a comparison with this and a bunch of other 24-70ish lenses: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnXQkqh_Yq51jLM I can confirm that even the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 for $800 looked better with bokeh. So even though I don't think the 24-70 has issues (onion rings were not very pronounced to me), it's definitely not the strength for this lens
@Daniel_Ilyich5 ай бұрын
@@learningcameras Granted, it was just one sample photo. The price is insane for the 10-15% improvement over the 3rd Party competition. Also, granted, it's that way with most products. You pay a huge premium for something just a few degrees better.

Why not to have Tamron 28-75 2.8 G2 + 17-28 2.8 for the same money? Price for me is the main stop factor.
@learningcameras2 жыл бұрын
If price is the main factor ABSOLUTELY get the Tamron 28-75mm. It's amazing for the price...I personally own it, and I highly recommend it. This new Sony lens would be considered an upgrade and you have to decide if the extra price is worth it for you. But everyone should start with that Tamron. I have a review on that coming up! How's the build quality compared to the sigma, I held the sigma in hand and it feels bomb proof
@learningcameras2 жыл бұрын
Build quality on the Sony is still great...all metal although the lighter construction means it feels less bullet proof. But most of the weight savings are because of them rearranging the elements and the new linear AF system
