There is absolutely no comparison. I have both. I can shoot the 24 GM wide open and it is sharp! The 35 1.8 just isn't; I can't believe I spent $748 for the Sony 35 1.8, it just isn't worth the $

@@ZadieBear It's true, I sent back the 35 1.8 I bought, because I thought the 24mm in super35 mode (10 MP image) was still sharper and nicer than the 35mm (a 24 MP image). But I may have been deceived by a few images(?) Also the compact size and field of view of the 35 are so appealing ...it would be nice to see a really professional comparison. If Sony's 35 isn't worth it I may end up buying the new Tamron 35mm ...it's 2.8 but it's practically macro and should be perfect for video

The 24 GM was actually my first lens on the A7III ;). It’s image quality is just beyond epic and it’s so much fun shooting low light with it. I did some shots at night when we were out during Halloween with the kids and it’s truly imazing how many perfect shots you get even in the worst conditions (night and running kids :D)

Yes, the 24 GM has been "difficult" to find at nearly all of the big-name stores. We searched high and low and remained on a "notification" list for months. The good news was searching off the beaten path and located two in stock at ABT Electronics in Illinois. Grabbed em up immediately on-line and had them a day and a half later. Don't believe they have been off the Sony A's since. Clients are very happy with results.

I rented it to shoot a video and I fell in love with this beast. Sharp, Superfast focus, crazy bokeh and beautiful colors out of it without any editing. Now I am stealing every penny I find in my kid's bags and my wife purse to save to buy it.

Do you have any auto focus issues with your 24GM? It seems like even on continuous autofocus mine still hunts. Do you think it may be because it’s connected to monitor?

Yes dude, when continuous autofocus from wide open to f4 it pulses like crazy! I put it in single shot af and it doesn’t pulse. It sucks that we can’t use af-c :(

The 24mm GM is my favorite all purpose prime lens. Small and light, fantastic performance. I tend to take it on walks in parks, with the 200-600 G in the bag in case good wildlife opportunities appear and the Tamron 28-75 for midrange zoom. I’m amazed how hard it is to get - I was fortunate to preorder it upon release and received it in time for autumn 2018 leaf photography.

Great video man👌 Thank you so much for the peak design strap especially, it's absolutely amazing. I am kind of in a creative rut aswell, just haven't found the right stuff to shoot lately. But I just got the DJI mavic mini a few days ago and been shooting with it a lot. Also I'm getting a gopro for christmas because I feel like I'd enjoy shooting a bit more when I don't have to worry about a camera and when I can make videos of my hobbies like freerunning, tricking, skiing etc.👍

Jason, please give me some advice :) I have: Sony A7Riii, 24-70mm 2.8 GM, 16-35mm 2.8 GM, 35mm 2.8 zeiss, and 85mm 1.8 sony. I am not a wedding photographer and I can usually control my time and location. I want the best IQ and also if possible, lighter lenses for my gimbal. I would keep the 16-35 because I like to shoot landscape once in a while, but not sure if the 24-70mm is worth selling to I can get 2 new primes? what would you do? which lenses would you get? or would you keep the GM zooms?

I own both. If you're going somewhere and want to shoot landscape photos, then the 24mm is the obvious choice. For keeping your pack small, though, the 35mm is FAR smaller and lighter. And it's fast and makes beautiful photos. I'm lucky enough to have both, but I wouldn't be without both. I shoot a lot of close-up stuff at concerts, and the 24mm is helpful in that area, but it distorts a tad at the edges of the image. The 35mm looks better in that regard.

I literally ordered mine, by phone, half an hour before I left for a two month trip as I saw it pop up in stock in a store a couple of thousand miles away from me! Luckily I had a friend who was able to pick it up and I finally received it last week. Now I may be spoiled for other lenses! I am going to go a check out your Depression video, Jason- I am still wondering if I "need" the Tamron 17-28 in my life. That was out of stock, too!

The Sigma 16mm is 24mm equivalent on the a7III and that's what I use for my video right now. Would love a full frame lens for video though. This looks good!

Hey Jason, I Bought this from Digi Direct here in Melbourne Australia last week without any wait. Just walked in. Although they gave me the lens from the shelf on Saturday and got a fresh one Tuesday. But wow what a lens. Absolutely loving it. Was going to get the gm 16-35 2.8. But stoked went with the prime. Going to be amazing at concerts indoors. Wish it was as easy to get elsewhere.
