I just picked up the Sony on top today at a thrift store. Got it for half price, as I told them the drawer wouldn't open. Still overpaid @$10, but oh well. I opened it up and found 7 CD's is it, so I think i found the problem. lol Unfortunately, it won't read SACD's and that was the only reason I got it. I'll have to see if I can clean the laser. Fingers crossed.

@@janath9118 Just with a basic Q-tip. I might go nuclear and use alcohol. But I know that could be a bad idea.Seems to be a popular outcome with these guys.

@@mmmbbq Isn't cleaning the lens by using a lens cleaning disc not sufficient? I am not a professional but just asking, isn't using alcohol harmful? What about using surgical or rectified spirit or special cleaning fluid spray for cleaning? But do you mean that it got a bigger problem than this?

@@janath9118 A lens cleaning disk is useful when you can't get in there with an implement, like a qtip. Since i had the cover off, I used air and qtip, brush. Yes, alcohol is usually a no-no because it can cloud the lens. From my research, it's pretty obvious that these Sony's and others are notorious for having lousy lasers that eventually won't read the SACD layers, thus rendering the SACD playing abilities useless. And that's the whole point of having this, for me. Now it's just a cheap, run of the mill dime a dozen CD carousel player.
