The only oversampled 4K mode in the a1 II is the cropped APS-C mode. A flagship should be able to record full-width 8K oversampled 4K60p or at the very least 30p! Hi Jason, a great balanced video. Like nearly all KZbinr's who got early access you've not let this cloud your subtle but clear advice. A thought to Sony; I am an A1 owner who suffers from GAS, can afford to upgrade and would normally would but this is my thought process. Trade in my A1 for a new one, likely cost $4.5K, or keep my A1 and buy the Nikon Z8 and potentially migrate to N-Raw, ProRes Raw (10 or 12-bit, 8K 60 fps and great photos with the ability to capture events when not present. Add to that the continuous Firmware updates that keep the camera competitive. Sony, users should not even be thinking as I am after this release but I am. So, my decision is as follows, I will either buy the Z8 or wait for Nikon's next release knowing it will compete but be more cost effective with better video features and clever photo functionality. To Nikon, it's the Z8, not the Z9, its to big so don't cripple the Z8 otherwise my likely migration won't happen.

How is the AI autofocus compared to the A9iii? I'm using the a9iii for ice hockey, but interested in more megapixels as I crop quite a bit. In need of a second body for my work shooting tournaments, and wondering if a second a9iii or an a1ii is the way to go. Thanks!
@michaelmoran401229 күн бұрын
they are the same AI autofocus and use the same chipset so simple put they are equal. where you will see a difference is in the " succes rate" the A1 II has 30 frames per second meaning it will able to adjust more times perframe to get the perfect focus. due to the high fps on the A9 III you will have more frames that are slightly off. all in all they are the same but you may experience different succes % due to this fps difference.

Since the release of Sony FX3 and follow-up by Sony A9 III, I was expecting that the Sony A1 Mark II will get A9's features with FX3's body and will label this camera as GOAT. What shame.
@TheGeoDaddy2 ай бұрын
Let’s keep it simple - I bought my first Sony camera (the A1) July 2023 (just paid it off 😏) - as I switched from Nikon to Sony (after wasting $$$ on the “game changer” Filmmaker’s Kit they still doesn’t have Apple’s FCPX support 🤬) 1.) The A1 overheats on every video shoot. 2.) The firmware upgrades are corrupting the functionality if not BRICKING cameras 3.) Sony doesn’t care and is selling you upgrade camera… which will still overheat (because it doesn’t have the FX3 fan) and will soon be obsolete with the next camera released. Other than that - I got what I paid for in the Sony ecosystem - with two FX3s and the family of GM lenses!

Sony is now where Canon was in 2017. Canon is now the one innovating and putting out fully complete cameras. Sony is using the Apple model of innovation and marketing. Sucks to see.
@oasean2 ай бұрын
Only since Sony had notably restrained α1-having a lowly monitor and lacking precapture-is this lazy rendition of α1 II compelling. Reusing the image sensor was wise, but reusing the processor was not. Wildlife photographer Duade Paton asked 40 fps of Sony, which replied merely that the _processor_ cannot determine focus 120 times while producing 40 raw files per second. Perhaps of course, then, a composited image still tasks the user to export the files and make it out of camera. And, more detrimentally for more users, full-frame raw stills at 30 fps, exclusively the "compressed" format, are necessarily full resolution, 50 MP. All resolution options-large/L as 50 MP, medium/M as 21 MP, and small/S as 12 MP, exclusively the "lossless compressed" formats-are capped to 20 fps. Further, those "lossless compressed" raw sizes are a foolish set of options. The breadth of use cases obviously warrants, for instance, XL as 50 MP, L as 36 MP, M as 24 MP, S as 18 MP, and XS as 12 MP. Admittedly, my wishlist instead asked too much in some ways: an inbuilt flash transmitter open to third parties, an OLED monitor ultrabright for direct sunlight, and an electronic ND filter. Reasonable, though, were waveform and vectorscope displays in movie mode, ProPhoto RGB color space in photo mode, and exposure tools via raw histogram instead of via JPEG histogram. Meanwhile, I viewed CFexpress 4.0 and USB-C at 20 Gps, doubling write and transfer speeds, as essential for Sony's 50 MP flagship till nearly 2028.
