I have had the a6300 for a week now. Along with purchasing the camera I got the 16-50 pz kit lens, the 55-210 mm lens and the 18-105 f4 G lens. I have taken around 2,000 photos (many just playing around, learning the camera) and have shot a couple of hours of video. I have used the kit lens for about 15-20 pictures, and have used the 18-105 for everything else so far. I will probably bust out the 55-210 whenever the next time I got on a nature trail or something, when I need that little bit of extra reach. I wanted the three lenses so I could have some versatility right from the start. The 16-50 makes the camera nice and small, and will be great to use for whenever I am out and about at a social function with friends or family. It will help make the camera more manageable to carry around and will be a good replacement from using my smart phone's camera. The 18-105 I am planning to use as my main walk around lens, and so far it has been a proven trooper. I have used it in sunny days and in low light at a concert. So far I have gotten beautiful pictures from it and the video has been great too. I got the 55-210 for when I need more reach. I look forward to trying it out, but I have yet been in a place where I needed the more reach. The only thing I am missing now is a speedy prime. I am looking at the Sony 50mm 1.8 or the Sony 35mm 1.8. Not sure yet which one I will get or when I will. The camera and lenses have drained me already. :-) So far I love the camera. I am still trying to figure out all of the settings and I have a couple of minor annoyances: I keep hitting the wheel on the back causing a setting to be changed without being aware of it and the menu being locked out during writing to the card. But coming from a very old Canon 20D, I could not be happier.

I have mine. I've been using the 10-18 f/4 mainly. also some 70-200 f/4. Really like it so far... I'm not a big video guy but the capabilities of this make me want to learn more about it. I previously used the NEX5n and now have the A7 and a6300 so I have a few lenses to work w/

Thanks for the video! I wasn't all that interested in APS-C sensors until I started examining speed boosters. When I realized that I can improve the light coming in by 1 stop for all of my lenses and get pretty much a full frame image... That's incredible! This multiplies all your lenses x2 (w/wo speed booster) and then you can add a variable nd lens adapter as well for bright outdoor and you're set! I think this is the camera that I've been waiting for. The only place that I can see where this camera falls short is the 4:2:0 8bit, but so does the entire A7 series. Additionally this camera records better slow motion than the A7sII. In my book this is the best all arounder and best bang for your buck. Though you will have to spend additional $$$ for the speed booster. Just my thoughts, thanks!
@GeryTeague8 жыл бұрын
+Gery Teague Also, I would love to see a speedbooster + variable nd lens adapter in 1. This would help negate the lightest part of the ND, give you full frame and still allow you to keep an open aperture in bright situations.

I just picked up the LAEA4 that seems to be working great (autofocus) with my Tamron 28-75 f2.8, minolta AF 50mm f1.7, sony 70-300 f3.5-5.6. Also I got the Sigma Art 19mm f2.8 E-mount, love it. My Tamron 70-200 f2.8 Mk 1 (I use it with an A99 Mk1) doesn't seem to be working with autofocus but aperture is.

I have mine fited with the sigma 18-35mm 1.8. It's lovely and will only get better when their adapter(MC) comes out. But for longer focal lengths I've been looking at that 70-200 f4 as well.

If I am not big into video , would I lose a lot by choosing the A6000 instead of the A6300 for photos? I have a Canon 70D with several lenses and I was thinking of getting the A6000 + metaboner as a backup camera when I want to travel only with my pancake primes (great small setup!). Not ready to make the complete switch yet (might do it if the next A6xxxx iteration includes an articulated and touch screen) but the A6000 costs basically the same as a middle of the road lens. Never thought I would be looking at Sony, but boy they are shaking things up.

interesting review. I heard that still image quality improvement is only marginal compared to a6000 ..major improvement is video and better autofocus.. I own a a6k not sure if upgrade helps me as a primarily landscape shooter

Very informative video! Have you looked into Sigma's MC-11 converter that is coming? Sigma claims the converter will make Sigma lenses with Canon mount (From the A, C and S series) work just as good as native Sony lenses in terms of focusing etc. Based on dpreview's video on KZbin the claim seems valid! Opens up a whole lot of lens options for the A6300. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 will be one hell of a lens for video shooters. Combined with the losless 2x 'digital' zoom (Clear image zoom) that would mean you'd have a 18-70mm f/1.8...

Looks a great little camera. My main beef is the price of Sony's lenses; they seem to be super expensive, even compared to Nikon & Canon. I use Nikon full-frame plus I have Micro Four Thirds which are great, small and 'mostly' cheaper lenses. In particular the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 & 35-100mm f2.8 are fantastic lenses in a compact form factor. Sony are putting out some great stuff though-tempted, if I could afford it!

Hi, I don't have the A6300 but what will determine my decision will be primarily the outfit weight and just as importantly the AF performance with Canon L glass. I disposed of a 5Dmkii but kept back my lenses. At that time I was thinking of heading down the A7RMkii because of the great reports of its AF with Canon but if the A6300 performs just as well (which I haven't yet seen confirmed it might be the better solution as I also have some E mount lenses for my NEX 7. Any views on AF performance with Canon?

if you shoot sports or video, go for a6300 because much better focusing system and 4k/slowmo respectively. Otherwise a7ii because full frame has better low-light capability and the IBIS.

+Studat agree.... the 11 bit jpeg files of the sony's are not really that nice compared to canon. i got both the a7m2 and a6300 and the canon t3 jpegs are better in post. same thing with the video - guess thats why most videos on sony's are heavily edited with LUTs.... cuz they dont produce natural looking colors. btw, my a6300 hangs up on random :( they market it as a sport camera but when you make burst shoots... the camera will have a hard time processing all the files and the AF will feeze on random.
@Studat8 жыл бұрын
+Benjie Urbina thanks for your honesty. most people are making out this camera to be the second coming. think I might make the switch to Fuji XT 2 when it comes out
@ilovebohol8 жыл бұрын
Studat yes, some people like to create claims more than what it truly is, probably because they just bought one and developed what we call - gear bais. however, with the raw files - its great but with jpeg files it really not that good - the jpeg files even have artefacts on them that you wont see on the raw files, more CA and banding. So, now, I shoot all raw. If you compare both files side-by-side, can just crop one a little different - people wont know they are both the same shoot. thats how different the raw and jpeg files are - its SAD.
