Great vid! Follow Roll on ZC can be achieved by attaching the camera 90 degrees. Then use the tilt to make the roll happen as all axis are shifted.

One day I hope to get the a6500, but for now I'm sticking with the a6000, due to budget. It does everything I need it to. I don't use a lot of the natural audio in my shoots as well, so the need for an external mic isn't really there yet. I have found the cheap Sony shotgun mic through my hot shoe works great to cut out that hum from the onboard mic. My work is mainly watched on mobile or KZbin so I don't see the need for 4K other than using it for cropping in. I have the Sony 50mm 1.8 / Sony 35mm 1.8 and for the shoots I do they are perfect. Can't wait for tax time to purchase the 18-105 G lens. I purchased the Zhiyun Crane after following you and being pretty inspired. I love having a small backpack with minimal gear and plenty of spare batteries to get me through the adventures. Thanks for all your help man, its pretty refreshing watching your videos and getting honest, raw feedback to actually help people.

a6000 still does pretty darn good 1080p. Although the a6300 / a6500 have 4K and picture profiles. if you even do get an a6500 I also agree with using the color Pro for Sony profiles from EOSHD. Really helps remove the nasty green colors that Sony cameras are known for.

Love your work Brandon! Definitely shows how you don't need a $10,000 camera setup to get amazing looking footage. If you feel like adding another lens to your set, I'd really recommend the Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8. I have it with my a6300 and it's a great 35mm equivalent lens and allows for nice shallow depth of field. Little pricey but if you buy it used it's definitely worth it.

I use a very similar kit for my job. May I suggest one more thing that recently released which is a monitor called SmallHD Focus. Its light, cheap, almost no delay, and helps us see better outdoors so we can get the right exposure. Also, its very light compared to the others out there. Hope you try it :)

I go pretty much with the same kind of gear and shooting style but use a Fuji XT-2 with the stabilized Zoom lenses. They work on the gimbal and I am super happy with the results.

Good stuff Brandon! Just wanted to clarify that the a6500 does come with a Mic input (Got mine back in April and been using a Rode mic with no issues). What Brandon refers to (I believe) is a headphone jack (in fairness he did say headphone jack) to hear what's coming into the camera through the mic :)

Oh my good god! I have you're exact kit that you listed in you're description... Literally everything identical!! Minus the 18-105mm E is the only thing I don't have but hey! You're right man the Zhiyun Crane with the 6500/6300 with that 10-18 F4 or the 35 F1.8 is just a killer set up!! I even mount the rode mic on top when using the gimbal once in a while cause you know.. what the hell lol

Hi Brandon, thanks for putting this together! Great info on a very popular camera. RE: audio recording, I've had great success with the new Tascam DR-10L, which is basically a headless Zoom H1 or Sony 712. My favorite feature is the safety track, meaning it will record at a normal volume, and simultaneously at -6DB in case the subject gets unexpectedly loud. It's small, unobtrusive, and the included lav mic isn't bad at all. Anyway, just my $0.02. Thanks again!

I rock an a6300 with the 18-105mm and the 30mm. The 18-105mm is great because Of it being wide compared to my 30mm. It works great on my Zhiyun Crane v2. The manual focus works pretty well but autofocus is really no issue on the a6300. My 30mm is nice because it also can be used for portraits and is incredibly sharp in both video and photo. Highly recommend these two lense.

I have a Sony A6300, 16-50 & 18-55 kits + 18-105 f4 + 50 f1.8 + sigma 30 f2.8, viriable ND & PL filters, the zhiyun crane plus gimbal, a rode video mic rycote with a boom pole which I use with a Tascam dr-05, a yn360s light, a green screen 3x4m, a budget but really good tripod, a more cheap and old one... That's all I think. DO I NEED MORE??? I DON'T THINK SO. Maybe some more lights and stands and shit.

thank you for your great videos. Always straight to the point without unnecessary blah blah blah. However I have some comments I think you will agree. The 18-105 is a GREAT lens. No doubt. Best video lens for sony a6xxxx series ever. The sony 35mm f 1.8 (and the 50mm f 1.8) although it is the best budget choice for lowlight however it has some drawbacks. AF is great in daylight but at night the performance of AF decreased. Moreover, it is almost impossible to use the manual focus (ring) of these lenses (35 and 50mmm) becouse the "focus distance" is toooooooo large (you have to turn the ring at least 1 full round or more to focus). This make these lenses almost useless for handheld manual focusing. Generally speaking I agree with all you have said here. I have a very similar equipment. Instead of Sony mic, I prefer to use the old (but good) Zoom H1 and as it concern the battery a cheap Aukey with a wire clamp. However it seems like all AF lenses suffer from this "too long focus distance" in ring becouse this is also the case for sigma 30mm f 1.4 (AF e mount) as well. For low light and if someone records externaly I would suggest to look at the Sigma 18-35mm with MC11 adapter. Very heavy (i know) but acceptable AF performance and good (short) manual focus distance. it alse cover the range 18-35mm with f1.8.

So comprehensive and informative. Thanks a lot. Also, thinking of getting the Small HD Focus as an on camera monitor for bright daylight shooting when the A6500s lcd really doesn't perform so well. Plus if you shoot in log profiles you can overlay LUTs to get a better idea of what your final image will be. And it has audio monitoring and input and output audio jacks (plus loads of other features)

For anyone considering the a6300, I can't recommend it enough, it's a fantastic camera. I'm using the 35mm and 10-18mm, can't use the 18-105mm for now as I have the Crane M. Still debating the upgrade to the regular Crane as mine is definitely on it's limit, at extreme angles it get's a little shaky with the 10-18.

I bought the Sony 28mm 2.0 on your recommendation and I shoot with that thing almost exclusively. Such a versatile lens! I bought the 18-105, but I find the images ridiculously soft..unusable, really...at either end. Maybe I got a bad one. The Zhiyun crane MAKES the kit.

Hey Brandon, I put my a7S with 24-240 on the Zhiyun crane and it works fine (up to 70mm, 240 puts it way off balance). It also kind of works with the rokinon 35 T1.5, but there are microjitters, so I would not recommend it.

hi Brandon, you might want to include some good power bank in your gear. I suggest PowerCore 20.000 mAh. it has smart fast charging and great capacity, you can charge your devices/batteries in your backpack while moving...
