I have this A6600 as well with the 14mm F1.8 GM Sony lens and it was amazing. Photos and videos are sharp and the autofocus using a prime lens with this is amazingly fast.

I absolutely agree about that Sigma 16mm 1.4 on the a6600. It rarely comes off my camera as well. It's a great lens!

I love this camera in combination with the sigma lenses, 16 mil, 30 mil and the new zoom lens 18-50 f2.8. Really amazing and compact👌🏻

Great review and I own this one as well with the 16mm sigma lens. I got it for a B camera but I find using it alot for run and gun. My main is the a7iii so it's a good combo.

I have both the a6400 and a6600. This is the only Sony Product I'm crazy about. And Sigma just came out with a really awesome kit lens 18-50mm. Should check it out.

Yea I will check that out. I need a lens with a range like this.

I also went from an a7s to a6600, the only thing I really miss is having the wider field of view, I'm only doing personal video and pictures but I was used to 16mm on full frame vs the a6600 with the sigma 16 (which is a great lens that is also my primary)

I agree, I still use my A7S with 16-35 just so I can shoot at 16mm but I am looking at the sony 10-18mm for apsc which would give the same results, even slightly wider actually.

I like it but find it very similar in size to my A7c. I do like the a6600 the way it handles better, besides that I normally reach for my full frame but it hurts to think about getting rid of it

Really appreciate your review, I have been eying the a6600 now for a while. It seems like a solid beginner purchase that can become a solid B role option if and when I purchase a new upgrade for it. I like that is has good battery rating, no video recording limit, good auto focus, better low light performance than what I currently have access to, and some built in image stabilization. Do you find your handle recommendation is good enough for handheld video or would you recommend a gimble? I shoot pretty steady footage on an iphone for reference. So if it’s stabilization is as good as an iphone 11, I would be good unless I am zoomed in. Then I would probably need to rely on a monopod or some extra image support.
@CarlRayJohnson
@CarlRayJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, so the stabilization is decent but definitely not as good as the iphone so I use my crane 2 gimbal quite a bit. The top handle is great for shooting handheld but more static shots but if you are wanting to get buttery movement shots then a gimbal is the way to go. Of course you can also shoot in 60 or 120p and slow it down to get that smooth handheld footage but I don't want to rely on using slomo for everything.

Thanks for your video, and I also agree about a6600 with Sigma 16mm f1.4. Curl, what do you think about sony 16-55mm f2,8 lens? I also using sony 18-105 f4 and this lens is universal, but not so light and sharp. Have you any experience with 16-55?
@CarlRayJohnson
@CarlRayJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have experience with it but while I was doing a shoot today I wished I had something of that range. I kept switching back and forth between my 16 and 50mm. It was too low of light to use my 18-105 which I find to be the case quite often so I rarely use it anymore. I think that 16-55 would be a perfect all around lens. Just wish it could be a 1.4 as I am always needing more light in my run and gun shoots.

Have a6600 together with old and trusty a6000. Lenses sigma trio f1.4 Samyang 12f2 +viltrox 23 f1.4. After all viltrox is on my a6600 almost always. It's focal range is most versatile. Wide for group shoots or street, can do portraits. And even it has big vignetting and not as sharp I still prefer it more over other sigma lenses. Hope sigma will come with same focal. Biggest advantage of a6600 is good iso performance. Always able to get 1/250 or 1/160 at least with f1.4 lens indoor
@CarlRayJohnson

How does the viltrox do with autofocus compared to the sigma or sony?

Question from a newbie: Can you power or charge the Sony A6600 with a powerbank while it is recording for very long lasting videography sessions ? Can you use a Usb-c to micro usb cord since the camera only has micro usb and not usb-c ?
@CarlRayJohnson
@CarlRayJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
I have heard of people doing that but I’m not for sure on exactly how it’s done but What most people do is get a vmount battery and mount plate that has a dummy battery that goes in the camera and the vmount battery powers the setup. Vmount batteries will last a long time. But even the batteries for the a6600 last incredibly long as well. I can shoot all day with one battery usually.

I haven't tried it myself, but I'm pretty sure if you plug the camera in the USB port, you can charge the camera while recording.

I have a question. Why did you choose the A6600 over the A7C?
@CarlRayJohnson
@CarlRayJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest I totally forgot about that camera as an option. There have been so many cameras coming out lately. Price is about the same and full frame. If i could go back in time I probably would have gone for that camera. Really I want the A7Siii but just haven't shelled out the cash yet for it. I have the original A7S and still use it, love that camera.

@@CarlRayJohnson Sorry wasn't able to respond for a long time. I missed that sale, unfortunately. But I got the a6500 for 500 USD new before they discontinued it. I was looking to gift the a6600 to my daughter but bought a fujifilm x-s10 instead.

Well you can put any E Mount lens on this camera but there are a line of APS-C lens available too that tend to be cheaper than the Full Frames but you can use either. Looks like there is a sony 70-350mm lens available which would cover nature and wildlife. There is also the kit lens that is an 18-135mm but not quite long enough for wildlife if thats what you want it for. I shoot a lot of landscapes and plants on my Sigma 16mm 1.4 and my 50mm 1.4
@tayyaabkhan
@tayyaabkhan 2 жыл бұрын
Will you recommend 16mm or 30mm as a starter lense?
@CarlRayJohnson
@CarlRayJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
I think the 16mm is better to start with. This equates to a 24mm on full frame which is a great all around focal length. The 30mm could work as well (45mm full frame) but there will be a lot of times you wish you could get a wider shot.

What I don't like about the Sony or maybe I should say really hate about the Sony is how quickly it will collect dust. I have found you do not even have to change lenses and you will come back with dust on your sensor.
@butchgo5346
@butchgo5346 2 жыл бұрын
I have Nikons and Sony cameras and they all collect dust on their sensor after some time. It also depends on how often you change lens. My Sony a6600 has only 24mm 1.8 Carl Zeiss lens in its APC lens arsenal and it has remained attached for sometime now.
