The thing is that most camera reviews are on KZbin and those are pretty much the only people that really vlog a lot. So it seems like a whole lot of people complain about it, but in reality there are so many other photographers and videographers that enjoy Fujifilm‘s screen design and I really hope they don‘t change it just because of vloggers complaining.

I love how people want a flip out screen to take selfies with a $1,400 camera. Selfies seem like the LOWEST priority when buying an expensive camera.
@starwf07

For real. I actually even get a bit annoyed that people spend time discussing vlogging potential in a review of a premium camera. Vlogging is at about the very bottom of the photography/videography totem pole in a close race with bathroom-mirror-selfies and sending pictures of your mole to your doctor.
@Fabio-rg9nv
@Fabio-rg9nv 4 жыл бұрын
I‘ve always preferred Fujifilm‘s screen. Vlogging is literally the only capability the screen lacks while doing great in every other situation, in landscape AND portrait orientation. I think the reason so „many“ people complain about no flip screen is because we‘re on KZbin and those people making reviews are pretty much the only people that vlog. But the truth is that the majority of photographers and videographers don‘t film themselves at all. I really hope Fujifilm keeps their screen design, no matter how many KZbinrs complain about it, because there are so many other people that (I bet) really enjoy their display the way it is.

This was perhaps the most useful review, especially for those on the fence between the Sony and the Fuji. I ended up going with the Sony 6600. I can see the attraction of the Fuji, especially at it reminds of cameras of old, like my Nikon FE2 for which I have such fond memories and learned on, but I time waits for no one and I felt Sony the modern APC that should be more camera than I'd ever need and is smaller than the Fuji, a major reason for having an APC.

I've been wavering between picking up a XT-3 or an A7iii for a while. I love the Fuji lenses, ergonomics and overall joy of using the camera. The A7iii is a powerhouse but an expensive eco-system to buy into past the body. Still going back and forth but Sony a6600 doesn't change that for me. If I wanted crop I'd go for the X-T3, If I wanted full frame I'd go for the A7iii.

Great to see, at a much more recent vantage point, the Fuji XT4 rectified most of the criticisms you leveled at the XT3. I debated buying the a6600 vs the XT4 and think the XT4 is all around better.

I’m an a7iii owner with a6400’s as my back ups. For me, the a6400 is a better value purchase over the 6600 as you’re pretty much only getting sensor stabilisation (which isn’t really all that great - the extra battery life doesn’t bother me) as an extra. If they had gave it 2 card slots then I’d say the difference would have definitely been worth it.

It’s hard to compare cameras without talking about the lenses available. It’d be interesting to see how the E 16-55mm f2.8 compares to Fuji’s XF equivalent. Even so, the XF 16mm f1.4 alone keeps me in the Fuji camp; that lens is pure magic.

Great review. I used to be a Fuji user with Fuji XT-2 camera and some lens, but when I started my youtube channel and need to create more videos I found a fully-articulated screen is what I needed most. And then I switched to Lumix G9 camera. But I still think fuji's color science is better than Lumix.

The Fuji X T3 is ART in every way. There are lots of native high quality OIS lenses for it, that won't tire you out before the end of a shoot, so no in body stabilization is not an issue. The battery inadequacy is an issue, if you shoot a lot of 4K, but not so much for the still shooter. The EVF alone is one of the best out there and Fuji support is second to none.

I grew up using cameras with no stabilization. When stabilized lenses came along, it was liberating. Yes, back in the old days, 1/30th of a second was too slow. To get sharp images, you needed to carry tripods or flashes or simply avoid taking images inside. Think of the reciprocal rule as a limitation on unstabilized camera systems, not some general rule for all photography. Having an entire new area of the exposure triangle opened up gives you many new creative opportunities. Personally, I prefer having one IBIS system in the camera body and then be able to use unstabilized lenses. Also, I strongly suspect that the combination of lens and body stabilization is even better.

Yes, this is a versus video about a just-released camera compared to a very well-known and reviewed alternative. It would make no sense to spend the same amount of time on the details of both. It’s an interesting concept that a mixture of positive and negative comments about the 6600 must be “100% paid for by Sony”, whereas a long list of specific differences (many favorable to the XT3) is “a few brief comparisons”.

Look at the Canon EOS RP for vlogging because it has full frame? Not when you use 4K with a 1.6 x crop. What's more you lose access to dual-pixel AF. Of course, you can stick to 1080 and use the full frame, but it still suffers on video quality compared to some of the competition, as it doesn't do full video frame readout. Of course it doesn't have IBIS either.

When I bought a6400 I did look into X-T3 and Canon but I went with a6400 because it had no limit 4K recording, even at 4K all the AF works, flip-up screen, great AF, etc. It had a lot of things that I wanted and it was not that expensive. Since I came from G8 so I really miss IBIS in G8 but I love my a6400.

Personally, I think the a6600 is a difficult sell when used a7III's on the secondary market (not necessarily secondhand retail) are regularly seen for $1,500-1,600. With the exception of the screen record time limit, and maybe real time tracking, I cannot think of anything the a6600 brings to the table that its bigger brother fails to provide, its advantages notwithstanding.

I am sure IBIS is a good feature but I do not have an issue with camera shake even with the Sigma 16mm F1.4. I did not think it was worth another $500. I thought about going full frame but the lens prices put me off. I would have needed to buy a body and a good 24-70 and did not want to spend that much. I just completed my own quick still-image assessment of the Sony A6400 (slightly older version of the A6600 so slightly less image quality in the processor) and the Fuji XT3 using Imaging Resource's Comparometer. In their lab settings all you need to do is scroll down to a test image, set the ISO (in this case 3200 because I want good low-light image quality) then compare the two camera images enlarged considerably side by side. Remember, given today's technology we are looking at only slight, but still noticeable differences between cameras within their respective class types (in this case ASPC). Although the difference is slight I would comfortably rate the Sony A6400 image as good as to slightly better (perhaps up to 10%) than the Fuji XT3. Given that the A6400 image is slightly better and the Sony A6600 has the best auto focus in the business along with IBIS that the Fuji does not have, I would overall bet that the core quality of Sony A6600 images will be consistently better than the Fuji XT3. There is no comparison between an objective, lab-based image quality assessment with parameters carefully controlled for and someone's subjective measurement, although subjective assessments can point out a great deal in terms of other factors. So, if one is looking for the camera that will consistently take the better picture, all other factors controlled for, I would hands down bet on the Sony a6600 over the Fuji XT3. Again, see for yourself by going to the Imaging Resource's website-then click on the top of the home page for 1. camera reviews, then 2. compare images: Comparometer.

Well, I guess I'm not gonna switch to X-T3 soon. I'm 50\50 photo video shooter, and after more than a year of savings I initially bought Sony a6400, which is a great camera, but due to some tech issues and really annoying sensor dust attraction, it wasn't suitable for me. I was on hurry with my purchase, because at the time I needed to film an interview with elderly person, which had a lot of health issues, and could probably, you know, die. And due to possibility of that interview be the final moments of the life of that person, I wanted to film that in rather good quality etc. When a6400 launched it was ridiculously overpriced in my region, about $200 more compare to officially announced prices. The initial price was roughly 1/3 of yearly wage of our family, so it was pretty substantial purchase for me. Weeks after I filmed that interview Sony announces a huge discount on a6400, which was about $158. Some stores claimed that it's gonna be until November 3rd, but discount is still there. So, just like that, even if I try to sell my a6400, I lose a pretty noticeable amount of money, and I'll still need a lot in order to buy X-T3 (kinda afraid to buy used, due to scams and frauds, which is sadly pretty common in my region). So there's that. Sorry for whining, but I feel pretty much crushed and depressed because all of that, and just wanna share my story.

@@dash3dot Why is it bad? You can chose between similarly priced cameras and have to chose between better picture quality in low light and better portability. Other than that the differences are often niche. There are cheaper APS-C and M43 cameras out there but they often lack featres and or overall picture quality compared to FF. Its just that the premium APS-C are nowadays comparable in pice and quality to FF (in good conditions)

Hi, will the 6600, 2.8 70-200 & 2x Tele give me better results than my A7iii and the 200-600? That combo would be cheaper and lighter than buying the 200-600 zoom while also giving me a second smaller body.

Trying to get back to photography after a long time. COVID days is the main reason. Had migrated to Fuji from a SONY SLR fan thanks to their superzoom X-S1 and a bad back. Smitten by Fuji colors and in camera processing, later got a XE2 with the kit lens, XF55-200, XF100-400. Family events, some travel, birding etc. are my aim. Still I have a SONY SAL16-80ZA and SAL70-300G from SLR days. No takers (made a mistake selling the A580 body alone) for these lenses now. To put them back to use with a LAEA5 adaptor do you see any issues with A6600? Would these lenses benefit from the in body stabilization? A6600 is selling discounted now

Hi Tony. Nice comparison. As a landscape and product photographer, I use the Fuji X-T3 with some stellar sharp Fujinon XF lenses, and am, currently, quite pleased with the overall image quality, especially sharpness and detail when enlarging up to about 30" x 40". IMHO, that's the TRUE test of a camera system...whether it can maintain a level of sharpness and image detail in large prints that meets customer expectations. Granted, I realize that the larger the sensor (all else being equal), the better the image at magnification, which is one reason I'd love to see your comparision of the Sony 16-85 f/3.8 to the Fuji XF16-85 f/2.8. I've used the latter (with a solid tripod, good exposure, technique, etc.), in terms of image sharpness and detail retention. Thanks!

The strengthen and weaken well described. Both are great cameras, they differ technically and from the design. I think that's great, because I mainly photograph and find menus annoying, I prefer the Fuji. However, I sometimes miss IBIS with the Fuji. With the Sony I'd go straight to AIII, because the price difference isn't too high and the difference to Fuji is clear. So I can't do anything with the Sony 6600.

I'm staying with APS-C. I own and love my A6500. I shoot landscapes primarily. The main advantage of full frame, unless I go to the resolution monster A7R4, is better bokeh. And better bokeh costs lots of money for quality high speed glass. I don't need bokeh. Plus FF camera and lens weigh a lot more - and cost a LOT more. I'm very much hoping Sony's next APS-C camera will be the A6700-R with 40 meg plus sensor, higher resolution EVF and dual card slots. Cheers!

@alexaudiovisuals 4 жыл бұрын
Have you ever tried a full frame camera and made a comparison? In my experience APSC will be way less sharp since there is almost no glass that will really give you 24 MP on APSC, they're just not sharp enough, that's why your 6700R concept would suck massively because no piece of glass is ever gonna resolve this highly, while on a full frame sensor the glass doesn't have to be half as good to resolve more megapixels

What in particular bothers you about Fuji's mobile app? I have an x-t2 and the mobile app works very well imho. I do not really have anything to complain about: you can transfer full jpeg's or 3mp mobile versions perfect for sharing. You can control the camera remotely, browse photos and the app is maintained and updated regularly by fuji.

XT3 for me all day long, its more of an artists camera if that makes sense, magical pictures roll off of it rather than technically perfect, sharp and flat. Sonys are great tools, but the images from them always require post processing to make them into something, the fuji's files hardly need touching. The fuji has an organic quality no other digital mirrorless can do.

What's your opinion about a selfie screen that flips down? It should not be that hard to produce a grip with a window-frame that let you see through for vlogging? And on top of this it is better to sometimes look a little bit down when talking to people. We do this all day long if we switch from looking to eyes and mouth during conversation.

B&H currently has the A7iii for $1799, making the A6600 with it's limited, mediocre glass even tougher of a sell. If it had 4K60 that'd be different, but the 6600 seems like its just a 6500 with a firmware update and a bigger battery.

Do you think if we crowd-sourced the organization / grouping of the menu items for Sony they would actually implement it for us? Maybe they should just let us customize the menu in the sony app or from a website so we can upload a file to the camera to customize it. Nice review BTW.
