I own a 6500 and I must admit that even though it doesn't have insect auto focus, it tracks people very well. What I love about it is that all you have to do is put it in continuous mode, and that's basically it. It has the easiest video autofocus implementation of any camera I have owned, and I am always amazed at how good the AF is. It's Impeccable in all but the most difficult scenarios. To me the fact that they took out the flash on top of the camera is really a step in the wrong direction. I have gone to many events where I have used the flash by directing it to bounce off the ceiling and have gotten beautiful natural looking shots that I would not have gotten otherwise. So that makes the a6500 a more versatile camera on its own. The little flash is inspicuous, but it's there, if and when you need it. PS : I don't think that many people would se a difference in comparing the videos from both of these cameras.

Thank you for the reveiw video - my question is, do you miss the built in flash? (you seem to have to also give that up for the movable screen which I think is a very valuable option to be able to tilt the screen for self view on shots, but I think the flash would be missed

Thanks for the video. I have been contemplating whether to get an a6600. I currently have an a6500. With my style of shooting (video) and my accumulated NPFW50 batteries, battery life is not a problem to me. I think I’d rather invest in good glass which coincidentally Sony came out with the 16-55mm F2.8.

one thing I think you can mention in later review. some of us use it for underwater shooting. And the case for a6600 is different. so you will spend a lot more on water casing. and it's harder for find. full frame is too big underwater, and aps-c is just right for the job.

I went a looked at this yesterday as my camera store had a Sony day. Your review is pretty much spot on. As an A6500 stills shooter already the A6600 only has small incremental improvements over the A6500. Some of these are very good, especially i would say you are portrait , wildlife or video shooter. The big issue probably is the price, currently its possible to get an A7rii at a lower price (£1299 @WEX) . I think maybe this should have been called the A6500ll but i think for me it probably an upgrade worth skipping.

I’m a Nikon guy using currently a6300 with 20mm pancake lens as my small get and go camera supplementing my bulky system. All things considered it’s the high capacity battery that sets the a6600 apart from the rest. I’m getting a used one after a year or so when the hype and price settles down at eBay where I got my used a6300 at giveaway bid.

I honestly cannot tell the difference in image quality between the A6000 thru to the A6600. The AF is definitly better on the newer cameras (tracking AF) but if you're not using eye AF tracking & subject tracking often then the A6500 with built in flash and IBIS is pretty tough to beat at today's prices.

I need advice. I was doing all the research and my budget is 1000 euros. I have a NEX-5r which is a really great camera. I want to upgrade and I am thinking of buying A6500 or A7 II. The problem is I have APS-C only lenses but I know A7 II will have a lot better image quality boost. But 10.66Mpx in crop mode for 12mm lens is not ideal actually:(... so I am thinking of buying A6500 but it has more pixels then NEX-5r which means worse low light performance? Could you please just give me any advice? btw your videos are so great and addictive!

I would love to get the A7iii which is a great camera and dynamic 9 is amazing. However I need a smaller form factor camera for day trips, city breaks, airplane carry on luggage only holidays. My eos uDii dslr, lenses and speedlites are a lot of weight and space to take on holiday. The A6600 IMO may be the one to take as it can do time laspe, good stills, very good video, smallish form factor, smaller lenses is a bonus. I can be at the beach, restaurants, cathedral, coach, car, tramp and it will perform very well. Just the price is what is holding me back !

Nice review...thank you for sharing. With today's prices, you can buy a new 6500 w/nice lens cheaper than the base 6600. The 6600 is about $300 overpriced based on the less than substantial upgrades over the 6500. Just my humble opinion.

I've just purchased my THIRD a6500. I'm already setup for the a6500 with a/c adapters, and I can't justify the extra $500+ dollars for the little extra that the a6600 offers. As for apsc, I prefer to use them with full frame lenses. The sharpest part of the lens hits the sensor.

Now, almost 3 years later, the A6600 has again roughly the same price (after being much more expensive). Strange world :/ But I'm not sure if it still makes sense upgrading from A6500 to A6600 because I don't know if a successor of the A6600 could be introduced soon.

@laurencegr99784 жыл бұрын
Good comparison. No criticism for the comparison. My criticism is that the a6600 is way too overpriced. It only has the "software" advantage over previous models and with software, Sony could have just implemented the same algorithms used in its focusing technology down to the *a6000.* Basically, consumers are just paying for trivial features like the bigger battery grip and bigger battery capacity. The focusing speed is just a placebo.
@TVe2004 жыл бұрын
For a landscape shooter it's no point to upgrade from a6500 to a6600. Where I live I would not get more than 500 $ for my used a6500. If I owned neither I would chose the a6600. The only reasonably upgrade is to A7iii. But I own a lot of APS-C lenses and am disappoited with Sony's new "flagship" APS-C camera.

My new dilemma: Fuji paired the X-T3 with the new 16-80 f4 for 500usd off this week. 6 stops of stabilization on that lens. It’s 1799 usd but ends on Sunday Nov 17th. 1999 usd after that bundled and 2300 separate. The 6600 w/16-55 would be 2800. Hmmmm....

is technically correct, but both sensors have virtually the same properties when it comes to awful rolling shutter, pixel count, not BSI,... = no improvement. I guess that is what he meant with "same" sensor in that context.

Michael Kefeder ... right! 👍🏻 The low light performance seems a little bit better - if I compare my old 6500-pictures with the new 6600-pictures. Less noise at ISO 3200 and 6400. 🤔 So overall: better IQ and colors.
