I am mainly a wildlife photographer and have the very best Sony gear in the Alpha 1 and 400 GM F2.8, but decided to get the A6700 with the APSC 70-350 G lens (105-525mm equivalent) as a lightweight walk-around setup - something I can take on business trips, when out with the family, or just out for a walk. I absolutely love this camera, which surprised me as I found the EVF on the A7C unsatisfactory - but somehow that is not worrying me on the A6700 (I no longer have the A7C to compare how the EVF has improved). The image quality and the autofocus is really great and most important it is only a quarter the weight of carrying the full frame setup (1kg against 4kg)

from the specs, the magnification doubled from the A7C (0,57x) to a6700 (1.04x)

@@DDHDTV The A6700's EVF doesn't have double the magnification of the a7c. The 1.07x magnification of the a6700 has a 35mm equivalence of 0.71x i.e. a6700 has 20% larger magnification.

As an alternative to a6700, if you do not need 10-bit color and 4k @ 60 and 120 fps, I will rather consider a6600 (which is right now just $998. A7c nice camera, but it push you into the really expensive and heavy domain of FF glass. Also I suspect, that very soon, just after A7c mk ii will became available A7c price will go lower even more.

I would look at the Ulanzi fan which you can currently buy for $20. Small attachment that should give you significantly longer record time. I also didn't originally like the viewfinder in the corner, but overtime I've grown to like it. I do also like how it seems to stick out a little further on the a6700, as it would make it easier to shoot with my left eye compared to my a6400

Just recently upgraded to the 6700 from a 6600. The difference in quality of both stills and video is huge. I kept the 6600 for a time. It is a great camera but using it after using the 6700 it felt like using 2nd best and it's gone now to a new owner.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 8 ай бұрын
It's so funny how you say that, because I am feeling the same way about the A7C now that I have the A7C II... 8-bit vs 10-bit video makes a huge difference. Photo wise it's much closer in quality, but I'm considering selling my a6400 for sure and maybe the a7c also since I'm using the a74 in the studio. All 10-bit video cameras now 👍
@davidnorwich3771
@davidnorwich3771 8 ай бұрын
I had the A7c for a while. I really thought full frame was the way to go for image quality for a long time. Maybe a pro would think otherwise, but I'm just an enthusiastic amatuer and aspc works just fine for my needs. The weight of all the lenses and getting it packed to make carrying it was what eventually made me change my mind.The bigger sensor meant bigger and heavier lenses. Even the smaller A7c body didn't make that much difference when packing a big 600mm zoom. I think the smaller form aspc body and lighter aspc lenses is a good compromise. I think Sony have been very astute in offering us such a high spec aspc camera.@@Jason_Hermann

I really want to upgrade my a6600 (main reasons being the side flip screen, digital hot shoe, and active stabilization) but that overheating issue is concerning. My a6600 has never overheated no matter how much I've used it. I exclusively use 30p and sometimes 24p for low light situations. Very rarely any higher fps. And I always use it outside, especially in direct sunlight. While I don't always record video for long periods of time (mainly what I use it for and sometimes photos) sometimes I do. And I don't know if I can have enough confidence in the a6700 not overheating on me using it in the same situations id use the a6600. I don't know what to do and if I should buy it. The fx30 is more camera than I really need just to have a fan. Plus it's heavier. And I'm already invested into apsc. So to switch to a full frame like the ZV-E1(or upcoming a7cii), now I'd need all new lenses and cost a lot more. 👎
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
Yeah I here you Mustang... The ZV-E1 overheats just as fast as the A6700 or maybe even faster. I did not have an issues when I was out and about using it like a regular camera, so it's hard to say. I think above 80 degrees outside is where you will start to see issues based on my testing. I do still think the camera will record for a while though, jut not for a long time in those conditions and photography should be fine. How hot is it where you will be outside in the direct sun?

@@Jason_Hermann Any temp really, can be over 80. I don't always record long clips, but the times I do, I don't want to have to worry about any overheating. Ah idk... I think I will wait. Maybe see if they release a firmware update to improve it or something.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, in that case I would just stick with the A6600 for now then as it's a really great camera 👍 It seams like to me in order to have all the new Ai technology and 10-bit video in these very small camera bodies a fan is required for anything in higher temps or longer form... Not sure if there will be a way around that, but perhaps they will figure out a new method via a firmware update that can sample the video in a less intensive way at some loss in quality, but at least will record longer maybe? No idea... All the best, Jay

@@Jason_Hermann Yeah, honestly I don't even need all that. Nor do I think my aging laptop will be able to handle 10 bit and high mbps anyway. Perhaps that may help the overheating situation. All I care about really, is the active steady shot, (i have very shaky hands especially in run and gun vlogging vids) and the side flip screen. My sony mic blocks the screen on the a6600. And I can take advantage of the digital mic. But all the other features are added bonuses.

@@Jason_Hermann Thanks anyway. You make a great point by comparing 6700 to a7c. I would consider it but I have 5 apsc lenses I bought for my ZVE10. Maybe I’ll have a need to jump to full frame but it will cost me for sure. Great videos. Cool kid!

The A7C performs better in that test for sure! Full frame sensor also has better dynamic range.. Kind a short on time otherwise I would test that for you, but I'm sure somebody on youtube has made that comparison by now if you do a search...

as an a6000 user who only shoot stills, I’m unsure if I should upgrade finally. I found myself a lot in low light situations and the am not sure how noticable the image quality jump will be to the a6700. thank your for these breat insights! edit: that said, the 51200 ISO looks better than my 6400 ISO lol ? so I may be able to skip the FF upgrade to the a7c edit2: holy shit, I was too quick to comment, thank you so much for bringing the a7c into the comparison. I do plan to pair the a7c with samyang tiny lenses maybe, sony 35 1,8, maybe sony 40 2.5. i shoot 99% of my photos with primes, but i’ll wait for this years japan trip to see how much i use the zoom kn my trips. barely using the 18-105 F4, but if I do, only the long end and I really enjoy the pictures. not sure what to replace that with

Would this be the best camera for someone getting into photography? Or should I wait and see what the A7C II has to offer and shell out more money and go full frame?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
The full frame sensor is going to be better, but if your just getting into photography, you don't need the latest and greatest camera, so perhaps consider the original A7C geni.us/N6UyGd which is on sale right now if you want to dabble in the full frame world :) Otherwise this camera is also a great option and best in class in a lot of ways...

@@Jason_Hermann Yeah I've been eyeing the A7C but I've heard lots of complaints about the old menu system so it's kind of deterring me away. One of the main reasons I'm considering the a6700 is the 4K 120, even though it's cropped the quality looks great. Thanks for your input though!
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
Well you said you were looking for photography, but yeah if you want 4k/120 then that limits you to only a few cameras... I don't think the A7C II will have 4k/120 since the original A7C was basically an A7 III in a smaller body, so the A7C II will probably be an A74 in a smaller body if Sony fallows a similar path... A74 does not have 4k/120, but the ZV-E1, A6700, FX30, FX3, A7S3 and A1 all have it though for reference. The menus are much better on the newer cameras also I agree 👊

Just clicked on your Thermals/Heating Time Stamp of your review of the Sony a6700-From a Real World Perspective: Sony Engineers, Tech & Marketing Should be Ashamed of themselves for such a poorly designed camera. They should STOP the manufacture and distribution of this camera. Go back to the Drawing Board & Start All Over Again Until They "Get it Right." Period. In this day & age, there is no excuse for shoddy design & manufacture. By the way, I was a Design & Film student at the Walt Disney School in the seventies, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in the seventies. 😎😎

I hear ya, but Sony makes cameras specifically for video that don't overheat in particular the FX30 which has the same sensor as the A6700... With that being said, I wish it was able to do better with the heat management also, but I think the camera would need to cost at least $400 more minimum and then it would be to expensive for a lot of people. With that being said I hear you and it is what it is.... All the best, Jay

I just wished they separated their photography and videography camera ranges. This camera costs 1700€ in Europe. That's $1850 for an APSC camera. It's way too much if you're not going to use the video features. A photographer doesn't need ultra fancy continuous autofocus or 4K 120hz recording, but we're forced to pay for it if we want the latest sensors/processors. Low light performance has improved marginally since the a6000 and this camera is almost twice as expensive.

i am thinking between A7C or A6700. Which one is better?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
For just photography in general I would say the A7C for the larger full frame sensor which has more dynamic range (better low light), and will also provide more background blur if desired... With that being said, for Sports and action the A6700 is going to have an edge over the A7C in Autofocus abilities, but the A7C is still incredible in this regard so I would not worry about that very much... I own the A7C and have had it for about 2-3 years for reference.. I hope that helps, Jay

@@Jason_Hermann hi, Thank you I commented too soon. I am new to the video/photo. I want to take video as I hike and pics of sunrise and sunset during the blue and gold hours.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 11 ай бұрын
Both still great options, but in general the Sony A6700 has smaller and lighter weight lens options available so that would be better hiking in my opinion on the burden carry category. Best image quality possible however, would be the full frame camera matched with really good lenses.... It's always a compromise, because the A7C full frame camera sensor has more dynamic range and better low light also.... With that being said the A6700 matched with a great lens produces incredible image quality, so a good lens is more important when it comes to next level image quality in a lot of cases.
