@@KPGuitarStudios Hey I'm a camera person, at least for one or two rabbitholes per year.. 😝Definitely considered it, but after this comparison I think I'd sooner grab a second ZV-E10, value for money is really unbeatable. For studio work, A6700 offers me no real benefit to swap out the ZV. That "Shiny New Toy" factor gave me some strong lenses in my rose-tinted glasses 😆

Mark, your videos were invaluable as I waded through the archaic array of menus when I first got my ZV-E10 nine months ago. Thanks. I wish I knew how dim that screen really was before I bought it, but it was the only camera in my price range and it really hit it out of the park. Getting stunningly sharp images with great color from some good glass recently.

Solid comparison video as always! Considering the price difference its hard to argue the value you get with the ZV-E10. The 6700 is solid for sure, but I don't know if its twice as expensive solid. I think the a6700 is great for people not wanting to go full frame but want the best apsc. E10 is great for a B-cam for those that already have full frame (like my a7c).

💯 My exact setup. ZV-e10 is the best B camera on the market imo. Price-quality ratio is unmatched. If APS-C lowlight performance is negligible to FF, I would get the A6700 in a heartbeat. Till then, A7C is the travel friendly camera for me. Also, the a6700 is pretty much the same weight as an A7C.

You make THE point where too many KZbinrs will Diss the ZV-E10. I have been shooting since 1972 and pretty competent using any camera, whether it is 35mm, 120 or 220 cameras like the Yashica twin lens reflex or Mamiya RB67. My ZV-E10 is my toy to learn video creation. It is so much fun and makes a great camera for those who are just starting out and have a small budget. BTW, it takes excellent photos. My super photo camera is the A7R3. That thing is incredible for photos.

Great Job Mark! Little Dougie continues to impress…pretty much matched the studio work and for vlogging almost perfect using CB, not quite as good 6700 without. I think the ZvE10 is also a bit smaller overall and lighter if that is important. Difference in price would fund a lens or two. The main difference in value to me on the 6700 is the weather sealing, better battery and EVF, otherwise for studio work and basic vlogging little Dougie brings it home!

I was pretty disappointed to see that the a6700 is actually a bit worse in low light than the ZV-E10 and that the rolling shutter issue may be mitigated, but still isn't solved. So I could not decide myself to upgrade to the a6700 from my ZV-E10. Especially considering the insane price difference: Here in Germany, you can get a brand new ZV-E10 plus kit lens plus camera bag for 549€ at the moment, while the a6700 is 1.599€ body only. Of course IBIS and the new video features are nice, but in my opinion that doesn't justify almost triple the price (The a6700 here is even more expensive than an a7c full frame camera!). So I think I will stick to my ZV-E10 until there might come a ZV-E10 M2 that has some of the a6700's new features at a reasonable price.

I think the only real deal breaker for me when it comes to the E-10 is that pretty rough rolling shutter. I know it's a not the end of the world and can definitely be fixed in post, but I feel like having to take that extra step every time would just be a bit annoying, as well as having to also do the same when it comes to stabilizing the image (since it also lacks IBS). It especially hurts because the e-10 is a VLOGGING Camera, at least marketed that way primarily, and I feel like those two things are significantly more important. I do think it probably still is a really good value, giving probably what I'd say is somewhere between 80%-90%ish of the performance depending on use case for like half the cost (not accounting for also using other non kit lenses), but I probably won't be investing in it, especially from previously owning an a5100 and getting out of videography/photography for a while. I'll most likely be saving up for an a6700 eventually, also considering it's jpeg color science is also better than the zv-e10. I have considered a little bit on getting something like the zv1 or zv1mk2, but I would like to have the flexibility that having an APS-C sensor system allows.

Great comparison. I've seen tests with the a6700 that confirms that it has the exact same sensor as the FX30, in that it too has dual base ISO's of 800 and 2500. Making it a perfect backup / 2nd camera for the FX30. I am seriously considering getting one to go with my FX30. Although I am still holding out to see what the A7Cii will bring. I'm looking for a secondary camera for an additional angle that would always be mounted on a tripod and I'd love to get the budget-friendly zv-e10 instead of the 6700, but my only concern is color-matching zv-e10 to my current a7iv. Any feedback? The "easy choice" is to get the 6700 and put both cameras in s-cinetone. I don't want to deal with any color-grading in post - just set the settings in camera and get matching footage. I think the A6700 really addresses my chief issues with the ZV-E10. Firstly I chiefly shoot 60p, it just fits my style better, and unfortunately that stucks me at 1080p on the ZV-E10 90% of the time, and the 1080p on that camera is really not that great. So the better 1080p and the option to do 4k60 instead is a big deal that would by default improve 90% of my footage. Second because I can end up with like 300 clips of footage for a video, Catalyst Browse doesn't work very well, and while active stab is actually quite good in terms of effect, the crop is quite painful. The IBIS and improved active stab is thus extremely welcome. There are also a lot of nice to haves. I'm usually pretty reluctant to go past ISO 2000 on the ZV-E10, so having 2500 as a base ISO is pretty attractive. Plus who doesn't love 4k120. I've been drooling over that FX30 sensor for awhile now just wanted it in a smaller and cheaper body and now voila its in a smaller and cheaper body!

I picked up the ZV E10 from Adorama last month. Nice camera, but since I started shooting back when film speeds were rated in ASA instead of ISO. I still need a viewfinder sometimes. So, it's on its way back to exchange for an a6700. I'm more stills than video, but I do like the video capability of the a6700. I do really like the articulating screen too. I still have and use a little a5000 and added an a5100. For their size and uses I can do LCD only. (Plus the darn things are just too cute.) Yeah, I said cute. However, going with large f2.8 zooms and other things, yeah, I need the a6700 and a viewfinder. For Vloggers and aspiring filmmakers starting out E10 is a pretty nice little rig. Or if you are fully into using LCD only and think viewfinders are for us old farts. It's also a good stills camera. Appreciate the comparison.

Great comparison! I think one thing that is important to take into account is that the ZV-E10 with a good lens will perform MUCH better than the A6700 with the kit lens! So if you have a budget of only $1500 (and you don’t own any lenses), IMO you should get a ZV-E10 with some good lens(es), like a Sigma 16mm + a Sigma 56mm or a Sigma 18-50mm, rather than a A6700 with a kit lens, possibly even for a lower price! The only thing I was kind of curious about that you didn’t mention is the A6700 1080p240. Is it as sharp as the 1080p24?

I did pretty much the same thing. Been shooting with the ZV-E10 paired with the Tamron 11-20 & 17-70 (everything purchased open box-like new so spent appox. $1500). Really wanting to upgrade to the A6700 though but don’t think I can justify $1400 for a new camera 😅

Hey man, you have grown since my last post lol. For your lighting is the godox light the only one you use? I see two square lights in your background and didn't know what they were. Also, do you offer teaching for color grading? I have no idea how to color grade. That's why I think for a newbie the zv-e10 I should now open, I kept it in box for possible return, but might be the most new user friendly. I also bought a sigma 16 f1.4 lens. All I care about is 90% videography.

Hi Mark, thanks for your reviews, they're super insightful. When it comes to streaming with these cameras, if you are using the HDMI output can you still run power off the USB-C, or do you have to use a dummy battery? Thanks

Amazing comparison as always Mark. From what I saw it seems that A6700 is a little bit sharper in 4k (unnoticeable ), Sharp for 1080p and more stable other than that ZV-E10 won portability, Night time and It's half the price of a A6700 body. A6700 imo is DOA. Not a real upgrade and worth 1400$ if it was near the 1000 like 1100 or something it could be worth it but for that price it's not at all! for all that price difference one could get a small gimbal with a nice lens and a couple of batteries as well as some other accessories.

@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 10 ай бұрын
it depends on your needs - 1400 is a great price for all of those features - but the zv-e10 can produce amazing images at the low cost of $700

Make sure you try the a7c first, imo. I owned it and could never get over the horrible ergonomics i.e- the grip! So awkward! The 6600 has an amazing grip so I can only imagine how amazing in the hand the a6700 must feel. Especially with the added front dial that the a7c also doesn't have. Just my .02 cents

I really appreciate your humorous and thorough way of presenting cameras. I seem to buy gear every 10 years or so, when I rediscover my love for taking videos. You contributed greatly to my decision to purchase an affordable ZV-E10 with a couple of decent lenses and a gimbal, rather than an expensive full-frame body I wouldn't be able to properly equip. However, even though cameras have come such a long way since my previous dabble in the medium, I wasn't prepared for the evolutionary flaws. While this video made me feel a little better, I still deeply regret the ZV-E10 and wonder whether I have to sell everything and start over (but then, with what?). My main gripes (that not many people seem to notice, but often murder my footage for me) are: 1. Rolling shutter (which is truly atrocious on this camera) affects vertical motion as well as horizontal, and this cannot be fixed with, say, Gyroflow (and Gyroflow won't work with the optical stabilization of my lens, which I will not turn off because it deals with the micro-jitters of my stupid gimbal. 10 years ago I was using a mechanical gimbal. No micro-jitters! But bulky and the slightest wind would blow it over....). As a result, I cannot (for prime, devastating example) take close-ups of my dogs running, because they squish and stretch like jello when they bob up and down. This feels utterly unacceptable in 2023. Rolling shutter is not just an issue when swish-panning or recording airplane propellers or soccer games. It makes any kind of organic, repetitive motion look ridiculous. 2. Saturated reds. I'm used to this with previous tech from working in NTSC in the 90s. But today still? This sensor utterly hates them. By chance I was testing color profiles in my garden, filming (among other things) roses, cherries and poppies. And let me tell you. One of the reasons I can't use Leeming LUT (I tried) is that I need the entire power of the color page in Davinci Wide Gamut in order to "fix" any reds I encounter, as best I can. HLG3 is one of the worst. The most stable seems to be S-Log2 in S-Gamut space (S-Gamut3.Cine does awful things to certain transitional red tones, which I think btw. is the reason for the issues with skin tones KZbinrs are reporting when they try to use S-Log3 in 3.Cine space on 8-bit cameras). But that's a very limiting color space to have to use on an 8-bit camera. Cine2 doesn't have enough dynamic range for outdoors (I'm done with bleached-out skies and gravelly shadows); HLG3 also tends to peak. The various hacks on KZbin, adjusting the in-camera settings of profiles, really only seem to work in specific situations. I need a robust color profile for documentary work where I can't always expose perfectly. Again, S-Log2 is pretty decent in this respect. So, I should have known I would need a 10-bit sensor. 3. Switching between still and movie mode. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I am constantly messing up my video setting when trying to take pictures and vice versa. It does seem to save the last setting in each mode, but if you change it, everything gets messed up again. And the memories don't actually save everything (such as color profile). It's so bad, I just don't take stills when I'm filming. So I might as well have bought a video camera. 4. Battery performance. Ridiculous. Have to unmount it from gimbal every 45 minutes or so. Cost of good (Sony) batteries. Slap in the face. I learned the menu everyone hates, and am okay with it. I'm good with crop sensor. I've spent days testing profiles and exposure settings, ages in Davinci trying to figure out a robust grading technique, adapted to filming with a gimbal, which I actually like a lot because it allows moves that even an amazing IBIS wouldn't enable me to do, bought the Resolve Studio license just so I could fix some of the low-light noise and have the magic mask for those red issues.... I've really tried to be okay with the ZV-E10. But I can't live with the rolling shutter and the fact that I spend 80% of my time in post trying to get my footage to look half-way decent. I know I'm not an amazing photographer, but maybe that's why I need a more forgiving camera. Maybe I'm just bothered about things others don't even see. But it really bugs me to see my Frenchie's skull wobble like a water balloon, skin turn blotchy and roses become reddish mush. I'm not even sure now that another Sony camera will fix any of this. My plan was to move up to another APS-C (FX30, A6700...) when they became a little cheaper. But now you`re showing me the only Sony under $3000 or so without a significant rolling shutter issue is the ZV-E1, and that's full frame and has other issues I don't want to face (such as the overheating, and having to buy new glass). So overall I really feel like I've made a terrible mistake investing in Sony APS-C, and I'm not sure how to move forward. Thanks for listening.

Okay, so now that I've had my little tantrum (sorry bout that). Rolling shutter is not something I need to look at on still frames. It just needs to be unnoticeable in normal watching, and I suspect there's a threshold (as with motion perception in general, hence 24 fps etc.). The ZV-E10 (for me) is way below (above?) that threshold. Any little wiggle and the image starts to wobble. Do you think the 6700/FX30 is significantly better? I can't tell from swish-pan tests; they don't represent real-life shooting for me. The only thing that, truly, these crop sensor models lack for me is the low-light performance, and I can't justify the jump in investment for that right now (if ever). But I would consider gritting my teeth and getting a 6700 kit, putting the kit lens (mostly) on the ZV-E10 (for my partner who needs a point-and-shoot vlogging camera) and then I have two usable cameras for, say, interviews, and one for hand-held, winging-it shoots. I'd like a camera where taking photos is fun again, so that would be the main reason not to go for the FX30 despite the advantages in terms of video. But then I'm really maxed out and this equipment has to last me a few years. Does that make sense? I'd really value your advice.

... meltdown part 2: I ordered the 6700 and 10 minutes later cancelled it because, as my dear partner points out, we also need food (and dog food). We're just gonna have to create our content with what we have, for now, dagnabbit. So blown reds and squishy dogs it is.

try experimenting with the different profiles to get something you’re more happy with. the cine2 profile is good for when you want to grade your footage without doing the HLG stuff. you can even try slog2 or 3 if you white balance manually and expose well

For me, really important stabilization quality built in camera...so if for both needs to using gimbal, then will continue with my lovely ZV-E10 in white. Another thing is viewfinder , it it really good in A6700? (For clips and sunny days using and love it my 5,5 inch 3000 nits Monitor.) Also I'm big fan and using often for movies my Insta360 One inch edition 360 camera, which FOR ME #1 fan for edit . Thank you for nice information/comparison.

Superb Mark. Your sense of explanation with a touch of beautiful humor is always outstanding. I had visited a shop to buy ZVE10 but the shopper also offered me the option of A6400. That will come in my budget. I know that there is no view finder in ZV E10 but A6400 has and that has a weather shield body as well that attracts me much within my budget. I have a hobby of both photography and videography. Will there be less quality picture with ZV E10 if I go with that or that will be same as A6400 quality image ? Will it be a good decision to go with A6400 instead of ZVE10 ?

Thank you for this comparison! The ZV-e10 has been a great B cam to compliment my Sony a7iv (and as a lightweight travel camera), but had the Sony a6700 been out when I was ready to buy a B cam I definitely would have got that. Now I’m just wondering if I should wait for the Sony a7Cii to be released before selling the ZV-e10 and upgrading my B cam?

I would definitely wait. ZV-E10 punches way above its weight class and super lightweight. FYI, the a6700 is about the same weight as the A7C, so that's something to consider (but it also shares the same battery type so you might save weight there).
