Sony A6700: Worth the Hype or Hyped Up?

interesting that you don't see any of the downsides for the other brands. Like Fuji being basically the same price (100$less) but worse AF and otherwise same meh viewfinder not weather sealed and not matching many of the other Sony specs W canon, while 200$ more expensive, you make it sound like is not a big deal even if 100 was a big deal for Fuji and you don't comment on the fact there are something like 4 APSC lenses available, most of them zooms. So higher cost and higher bulk if using top of the line full frame lenses. After watching this not sure Sony is really the worst of the bunch. And my opinion should be as good of a guess as yours - you did not use one either. And its not that I am convinced I will get this camera, not a Sony fanboy but its not that I had only stellar examples with Canon at the entry / mid level either.

You're right, definitely one needs to see the other options out there. Especially if you're a new photographer. I am personally in the Sony system, but Fuji and Canon are great options. Sucks that Samsung stop making digital cameras.

so i wanna uprgrade from my rebel t7 and i i have 3 options that ive been looking into the zve10 the a6400 and the new a6700 i want one that can do photography and videography ive watched many videos and been looking into more of the a6700 and the a6400 the only thing i dont like about the a6400 is the tilt but i can manage so idk what to get . any input?

If you have the budget go for the 6700. If you wanna save for lens go for the Sony zve10. I don't recommend 6400 especially if you do Photography as it doesn't have flip screen.

@@skepsfigs in my opinion it really depends on your use cases. Yes, it's not weather sealed but if you know that You won't take it in the rain. For me the best is the a6700 but it's also the most expensive of the 3. But talking about image quality zv-e10 and a6400 is quite the same (photo and video), the a6700 is newer so has more new features and everything. But for the ZV-E10 it's not weather sealed and doesn't have a viewfinder. For the a6400 it doesn't have a flip screen which in some situations is very very important. So it's up to you to choose either the flip screen is not that big of a deal or no weather sealing is ok.

NOT WORTH IT. Canon R7 blows this horrible EVF sony recycled parts camera. what is the fps on the sony? trash. It's hell post production on the sony and i use sony.

I bought an X-S20 a couple of weeks ago. Even on a static shot, the XS20 just refuses to cooperate, with the latest firmware. Using area focus (there's no tap to track in video on Fuji, only photo!), I can't record even a 50 second video without it losing focus many times. I tried playing with the AF box size (it's much worse with Multi mode) and putting it on an area with high contrast , but it pulses, e.g. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5-YhKNojJ6GnpI (video is of an issue I have with a standing desk). This is filmed at 18mm F2.8 (kit lens), it's worse with Viltrox 13mm F1.4 - this is in a very well lit room with super bright lights, it's much worse in low light. And the IBIS wobble is horrible too (also Viltrox 13mm - this is just IBIS with boost off, it's worse with boost+digital): kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4mapoymi5Klg8U I will really miss the 6.2k open gate, that's 20 million pixels, vs the 8 million you get with 4k, that's HUGE - you can crop 50% without quality loss and you can crop for vertical video, incredible! - but if my footage is wobbly and out of focus, what's the point? - It's also worth noting the dynamic range in 6.2k is only 12.1 stops vs 12.6 stops on the A6700. Compared with the fact the A6700 uses 4k oversampled from 6k and has more dynamic range, it narrows the gap between them somewhat. Also 4k60 with no crop on the Sony vs quite a noticeable crop on the Fuji and no weather sealing on the Fuji (not to mention the 120p with the notably giant crop). The same X-Mount lenses like the Tamron 11-20mm are 30% more expensive than their E-Mount counterparts, so with a couple of lenses, the Sony is actually cheaper than the Fuji. The Canon has no IBIS and is much larger/heavier so not great for travel, with expensive heavy lenses and a locked ecosystem it quickly is way more expensive than the other 2. I'm boxing the XS20 up now and sending it back to the shop for a refund, my A6700 should arrive next week, hopefully it doesn't have these 2 issues. I don't quite know what competes with the A6700 at this size and price for 70% video, 30% photos?

Sorry to hear about the issues you had with the Fujifilm XS20. To be honest, it sounds like the A6700 just may be the camera for you. Especially if it's a lightweight autofocus video camera that you need with some photos.

@@magnus547 I am keeping my X-S10 though for photos, the Fuji Photo lenses are fantastic, the F2 primes are incredible for photos but unusable for video (huge focus breathing). There's also virtually 0 improvement between X-S10 and X-S20 for photos (unless you need huge 20fps bursts) - it's just a shame the X-S20 for video has many drawbacks despite the really impressive 6.2k open gate, I'm going to miss having 20 megapixel video I can crop/reposition vs Sony's puny 8 megapixels :)
