I’ve shot Panasonic for years, finally went over to the dark side, never been happier. I knew you’d say you loved s35 mode - I’ve got it programmed to the OK button since I use it constantly. As far as colors go - I find they’re virtually perfect SOOC (I shoot Cine2), and like you say, better than the GH5. Can’t wait for the 24mm f/1.4 to drop. Great review!

Thanks for this review. You're one of the least biased reviewers out there and are really honest in your personal user experience as opposed to many reviewers who only seem to defend 'their team' and bash others. For me personally I am holding on to my gh5 until the specs on the Panasonic S1 are revealed because I mainly shoot with anamorphic lenses and depend on a 4:3 sensor mode. That being said the Sony looks pretty good.

Have you tried the clear image zoom feature? IF you like super 35 mode you should try clear image zoom. Basically you can digitally zoom while retaining the same quality of footage. You can make prime lenses a ct like a "zoom" or a zoom lens get even more extra reach with this feature. Combine super 35 mode and clear image zoom, you can cover some crazy distances in pinch. One con that I know is that clear image zoom doesn't work in 120fps. Try hotkeying and use the clear image zoom feature!
@kimsonpro6 жыл бұрын
This feature is still a wonder for me, even after 1 year of using it. It is so good I can't even tell which photo that I used the feature on. Primes become zooms. No quality drops. Such miracle

Well done mate, clear, concise information, well presented and very nicely filmed. Thank you.

Great informative video man! Thanks! I am reviewing the a7 iii right now. We too shoot mostly with the GH5, which is fine when we have someone behind the camera, but in order to shoot solo, that auto focus is crucial. Wish Sony would get on board with the flip out screen like Canon and Panasonic.

The Super 35 feature is something I wasn't aware of in my research so far, and that sounds like a fantastic feature! I agree with your assessment between both cameras. I personally own the GH5 and the Sony A7riii. I used Nikon for years and went to the A7riii because I wanted one camera that could do it all despite the slight quality loss in terms of slo-mo. Like you said, you’ll take a hit with any camera. There’s so many amazing options out there you really just have to get what best suits your needs such as autofocus etc and feels the best to use. To me the slo-mo footage you got looks really good but I’d have to see a side by side to know any better in comparison to what would look best. If I pay attention in movies I can see artifacts a lot. I’m usually so focused on the story part of movie/videos that I honestly don’t care about slight color shifts etc. The shots you got were really good mainly due to your focus on composition, story telling and really grabbed my attention.

As I own the A7III myself, so I know about the good and bad sides, but this just wraps up my thoughts perfectly. Just a small comment on the slomo low light: There are a couple of this using different PP's for better low light performance, maybe you play around with it a bit more. It's never gonna be as good as the GH5, but it can be better than with the Cine4 PP. Keep 'em coming mate, you rock!

As an A7III user this is the review I’ve been looking for. I too use it as a hybrid camera for videos and as a main photography camera using godox triggers and flashpoint xplor 600. I want to go to with the gh5 for the increased bit rate and 4K 60 for music video because I still have trouble with the HD 120p just as you did on the A7III. Ur right the image just breaks up in low light at that framerate and it’s difficult to grade but the 4K is amazing. I also need to learn how to work with it more though. But I guess I’ll stick with A7III and maybe get the BMPC4K when it becomes available which will probably be forever at the price they are selling it for. It’s probably going to be like the A7III all over again with wait times. But anyway I bought some of your transitions and stuff for my first music video this past weekend and I can’t wait to post some previews. I got a lot to work on since it’s my first music video but I got to start somewhere I guess lol.

IDK, I shoot weddings with the GH5/GH5s and hire 2nd shooters with A7iiis. They shoot 8-bit Slog and I shoot 10 bit Vlog with speed booster and full-frame Nikon glass. My images, even in low light, have lower noise and look crisper than the Sonys I pair it with. I post, I feel the Sony files fall apart quicker too. Gh5 with IBIS is ridiculous. I can handhold shots at f2.8 @200mm all day. I would like better AF on a gimbal but because I have a whole line up of Nikon glass I will probably get a Z6 and stay in 10-bit log.

@svbow63476 жыл бұрын
Steve Holt2 - do you have links that show your footage and the A73 footage? The GH5 is not the same quality as the A73 and sound like the guys you hire don't have good glass or know what they are doing.
@Holtenstein6 жыл бұрын
@@svbow6347 Lol. No, they have good glass. I hire videographers that have wedding film businesses. Often they have more experience than me. The Sony footage is just more grainy and at higher ISOs, it has ugly scan lines running through the blacks. Keep in mind that I'm using fast full-frame primes that are speedboosted and recording to an Atomos. I was surprised when first editing the footage too. This is even more so true when talking about the GH5s. It by far has much cleaner files at the equivalent settings due to having a 2nd native ISO at 5000 in Vlog. Also with the GH5s speedboosted the crop is only 1.18x. So even the framing looks almost the same.

Oh man.....you sent me down a dark path! I'm coming from a G85 with Sigma 18-35mm and Metabones Speed Booster. I just bought the lens and adapter a couple of months ago...but am realizing I can only use it for my video projects. I feel like going this route, I'd be able to use the a7iii for my video projects, but also be able to take it out for pictures on trips, and of the kids due to the quick autofocus. Thanks for this great review!

Wish i could afford the a7iii man! Seems like a really good way to step up

Also to do with the picture profile used on slow mo - 60fps is better as doesn't crop the sensor. Log doesn't seem good with 120fps - but for those lower light shots - PP1 - Cine 4

Thank you for the video! I always learn something and it's nice to have some representation in the digital/photography/videography community. Keep it up

Nice rev. thx - regarding AF then it looks good but even when you are in focus its constantly hunting check the bookeh thingy you have in the BG while your face is in focus its hunting constantly - that is kind of annoying - So a manual setting is still to be prefered for a static scene like this I would sey - Check @ 2:17
