There was some speculation as to whether you could REALLY tell a difference between the internal recording on the Sony a7III and the external recording on the Atomos Ninja V. I felt like I could see a difference, but hadn't done a side-by-side comparison. SO, that's what this video is - testing the interval vs external recording.
I mainly tested HLG, but also threw in a few SLOG2 clips at the end. The real question is... Can YOU tell the difference? Let me know y'all's thoughts in the comments down below!

Many cameras now days have great Resolution , to the point that is hard to see the difference between the recorder and non recorder , how ever --- this recorder comes very handy when you have to film a wedding without having the fear of filling up your memory cards , or a large film project where you required to film for an extend period time , for instance waiting for a fisherman to catch a fish,. and so on...

yo...so on what I see youtube compression doesn't allow you to see that much of a difference...in case you will drop a downloadable link for the footage both slog and hlg that would be nice...so we could keep up with what you might have encountered!!! Cheers and keep it up man!!!

Great comparison, very informative. Thank you for the effort to produce and share it. For me the Ninja V is a must have. My Sony A7S can produce 4K only with an external recorder. When you wrote in your video that it was upscaled to 4K does that mean you produced it in 1080p (for a higher frame-rate)?

In hlg, both are almost the same. In slog2, skin tone is much better on the ninja v, but dynamic range is better internally! Strange!! Thanks for the video 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Aziz exactly the findings I had! Slog2 has much better results, noticed literally nothing different on HLG (even before YT compression)

@@JustinRomeyn in slog2/3, the external recorder only registers “legal” ranges of exposure as opposed to the ”full” range captured internally; that’s why the image looks more contrasted when recorded externally.

Slog 2. That’s what I noticed too. Anytime I’m shooting with an external recorder it’s always gonna be in slog 2. I have the atomos inferno. Gonna get the ninja v too.

On my zcam e2 flagship it looks better in camera then in the ninja in every way. It's just the prores raw is easier to edit in fcpx but the file sizes are so ridiculous I'm thinking of just doing in camera from now on.

Will likely get a Shinobi instead of Ninja V to go with my a7iii. Good value for the price. I own a Freeworld now but it’s not bright enough and a bit buggy. Also lacking a few key features like custom lut and HLG display.

For me i'll still go for the recording capabilty of the NINJA V, not so much for the 422 (although that is nice too) but because as a one man ban KZbinr sometimes it makes so much difference being able to record continuously when you’re recording yourself, instead of always having to worry whether I have time, I use that feature more when I'm doin head talking shots for my channel, where I know I'm in the studio and I want to do tons of retakes, just thought of sharing :)
