A74 or A73, in that order, but either one really. The R bodies are more difficult to work with, and the A1 is complete overkill unless or until your workflow demands it, which will be quite a long time.

IMO, the A7IV is the better camera in every way except resolution and perhaps also weather sealing. It's also much better in low light. To me, if I were shooting twitchy animals with high shutter speeds the A74 is a no-brainer. You'll love it.

Can you do a video on settings for the a74 and real estate photography. I bought an a74 2 months ago. Coming from canon. Such a difference in the menu. I’m bracketing. When I switch to my flash Xt on to shoot my flash shots the fstop will change from 7.1 to 14 or 22. It just is all over the place. This camera is driving me crazy. Help. Lol

Hmmm...sounds like you might have an auto exposure (AEL) thing happening. Are you shooting in manual mode?
@MK-hz2bn
@MK-hz2bn 2 жыл бұрын
@@loudandclearmedia yes shooting in manual mode. I take my 5 bracketed ambient shots, turn on the xt2 and when I touch the shutter button to fire off my flas the fstop will jump from 7.1 to 22. Am I needing to set up 2 different settings on my dial for ambient and flash? If so, it seems like moving the dial back and forth for each shot will wear it down fast.
@loudandclearmedia
@loudandclearmedia 2 жыл бұрын
@@MK-hz2bn No, you shouldn't have to do that. Something in the back of my mind remembers my A7R3 doing that several years ago, and I think it had something to do with the AEL setting. I'd start by turning all the auto features OFF. Like everything. I don't want it choosing ISO, I don't want it messing around with metering...nothing. I bet when you do that it'll behave normally, and then you can narrow down the culprit. But yeah, the A74 definitely doesn't behave like that for me, so that's the good news. It's just a setting issue with something.

I have an a7Rii and an A7C. I was thinking about replacing the Rii with the Riv, but this video has really sold me on the a7iv. It's less resolution than what I have, but when you described it aas a clean and modern camera I think it's probably much more versatile than the Riv. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. The insights from working pros are invaluable.

@loudandclearmedia
@loudandclearmedia Жыл бұрын
@@Lucas85P It depends on what you want. Personally, I'd take the A7R4 for image quality alone IF you can give it enough light, but for me resolution matters more than ISO performance. If I shot more handheld and/or in lower light, I'd prefer the image of A74. Overall, A74 is absolutely the better camera in every way except resolution, and it's not even close. If I were forced to choose one or the other, even though I prefer high resolution sensors I'd choose the A74 every time. It's a LOT easier to live with.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience using the Imaging Edge Mobile app with the A7IV. Working with Imaging Edge on my A7III has been an exercise in frustration; sluggish shutter reactions, frequent disconnects, "Failed to Shoot" messages, and slow-as-molasses preview image fetching to the iPad. I've tried a few 3rd party alternative apps, too, and they all perform similarly using the A7III. How much improved was the preview image fetching to your iOS device using the A7IV?

Glad I could help. FWIW, your choice should be between the A1 and A74. Once you get used to working with either of those it's hard to go back to the R bodies. Maybe the A7R5 will be different, but right now the R4 just feels and behaves like an old camera compared to the newer ones.

Excellent as usual but I get the impression that your focusing on stills and not video. For my video work I want 4K 60 and the crop factor is a bummer. I want a good hybrid camera for real estate.
@loudandclearmedia
@loudandclearmedia 2 жыл бұрын
I'm right there with ya. The A74 will not exceed the A1 or A7Siii for video for the reason you site, however, I do have a couple 12mm lenses that I might try on it to give myself an ~18mm perspective when cropped in 4K60. When it comes right down to it, the A1 is the business...clearly the best hybrid camera ever to exist. It's the little things with the A1, like it's 1/400 mechanical shutter flash synch that its competitors just can't touch. Only because the price of the A1 do I not give it top recommendation for real estate. In fact, for similar outlay as the A1 I would recommend people buy the A74 and A7siii to cover photo and video as now you'll also have a backup body.

Thank you sir for the great real world working experience takes of all these Sony cameras. I wish I found your video before watching hundreds of other A7IV comparisons/review videos. What you said makes a lot of sense. You probably don’t use an A7c, but I would have liked if you also included that in the lineup. I know it’s mostly an A7III sensor with updated AF, software. I really do like its compactness. I wonder if it’s worth jumping to an A7IV from an A7c or maybe owning both bodies or are they too similar for 80% photography 20% video usage? Thanks again.

I'd be happy to, but I don't know exactly what your question is. No matter, the A1 does everything the A74 does, but better. The ONLY two exceptions to that are the lens breathing compensation, and I personally prefer the flip out screen for a video only camera. Out of curiosity, if its only for video, why not the A7Siii? It's the one I use for video mostly, and IMO it still has the strongest balance of features for video across the entire Sony lineup.

I’ve been trying to decide for 4 weeks between the a7r4 and a74 and still can’t decide..I’m mainly into landscape photography, so I fear maybe the a74 won’t be quite enough on the resolution side for that, or maybe I’m wrong, ( I’d like to print 42 inch canvases maximum) idk if 33mp is enough for that, plus having a low pass filter which reduces sharpness, then again the a74 has newer tech and far better noise control, I wish the a74 was at least 42 mp
@loudandclearmedia
@loudandclearmedia 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re a perfect A1 candidate…lol. Really though, for me it would all depend on how much you’ll crop, and how high your ISO will be. If you routinely shoot your landscapes over 320 iso (the R4s second gain stage) you may find it problematic because it IS noisy. Then again, I can see the resolution difference between the A74 and the higher megapixel bodies, especially when you start to crop. The R4 and A1 I don’t perceive any resolution difference between. They’re both really sharp.

@@loudandclearmedia how about the canon r5? I could just about afford that, I’m looking for just about the best auto focus you can get, the r5 is meant to be Stella in that department, and 45mp would surely give me better lowlight performance than the 61mp sensor on the a7riv, though I’ve never used a canon before and unsure of how they’re lenses compare to Sonys, I know sigma haven’t allowed canon to use their lenses, which is a big downside as they have some killer lenses such as the 16-24 art

I appreciate the time you took to make these videos. After using my trusty A7riii for architectural work for 5 years, I needed to dive back into the world of Sony cameras. Pun intended - I dropped my A7riii in a lake on accident. Anyway... I am putting the A1 through the tests, and its an amazing piece of hardware. You are absolutely correct that workflow is the key to a successful shoot. If I can pay 2x for 1 piece of gear that eliminates 2, I do it. I am considering the A1 for its Wi-Fi tethering capability. My current setup involves securing my Surface Pro to my tripod via articulating arm. Being mobile with my tethered device seems like a dream. Almost as important is the pixel shift shots. When the conditions are right, its as close to a Phase One as you can get without spending $50k. So $7k is a pretty good deal IMO. The colors of the A1 are more natural, and the green tint seems to be gone. Less post processing, and less gear lets me be more creative on set, and less "hangry" at the end of a long shooting day. Again, thank for the effort into making these, Im sure you have plenty of other things to do!.

Thanks for the kind words, Rob. Yes, the A1 is awesome to wirelessly tether with...to an Ipad anyway. I have no experience with a surface tablet. I have had strong connection beyond 100 feet line-of-sight and at least 30-40 feet with interior walls between. It's reliable.
