2:21 I wouldn’t recommend getting two different types of cards. If you’re getting V90 cards, make them both V90, because if you get a V60 and a V90, you’re dumbing down the V90 card down to V60 speeds when shooting.

Helpful video. Just my 2 cents about low light and camera companies' marketing. This camera it's actually better in low light than the a7siii for photos. One can just download (from dpreview's site) photos taken at 12800 iso with these 2 cameras, resize the a7r5's photo to the same size of the a7siii's photo (just to be fair!) and compare them. The a7r5 is hands down better then the a7siii, even if you resize the image. It has way more detail and way less noise. For video though the a7r5 just discard a lot of information using line skipping and pixel binning so the results will be worse than the a7siii that uses the whole surface of the sensor and has (a sort of) dual iso

I have had my A7RV get hot and drain the battery completely empty while it was powered off. It has also not powered back on after turning it off a few times. The only solution was to remove and then reinsert the battery. I searched the forums to see if anyone else has had this problem and apparently it is a problem several people have had. One person said he turned off the Dust Prevention feature and hasn’t had the problem again. Have you heard of or had this problem?

I find hilarious the concerns about the sensor (which is very well protected by a layer of glass) and the suggestion to use the shutter to "protect" it. The sensor you can clean but that shutter... oh boy...

Just bought Sony a7Rv. Won't get it for week or so, upgraded from Sony a7ii. Battery life on the ii was terrible. Getting like 40-60 shots on a battery, hopefully better on the TV. How do you like color science on the TV? Sony has been knocked for colors compared to Canon in past.

You say you're from Cleveland Ohio. I went over to the pixel connection right outside of Cleveland and trade it in some lenses that I didn't use and my a7riv and picked up the Sony A7R5 last spring. Love the camera.I am about 3 hours away. That's the closest camera store to me. A lot of new photographers think that if you get a new camera or the best camera you're going to take amazing photos. But you need good lighting and know what you're doing to get great photos.

Excellent video, very good tips. Thanks for the information. I liked the information you give regarding the weights of the files, since others don't talk much about it. And yes, they are very heavy. The uncompressed raw 130 MB... Lossless compressed raw medium between 35 and 50 MB... And JPEG between 8 and 20 MB. I would have liked the big and small lossless compressed raw data. Just one doubt... There I learned that when using compressed raw without loss, whether large, small or medium, the resolution lowers... is this true? I mean, they say that the megapixels are lowering, they say that they would no longer be 61MPX photos, but rather photos of approximately 24, 14 and 8. That's right? We would like to hear your honest answer

For me I like to Bracket and doing the basic 3 at +/- 2 and then the tried and true sunrise/se and blue hour on a tripod 5 at +/- 2EV BUT as an experiment, digital images are free, I did a sunset Hand Held at 5 at +/- 2 ev with Stabilization on and it worked just fine all images even those very slow SS were good. As a note all captures were fast and the sun was so far below the horizon it was basically Blue Hour and got pin point stars. If you have ever tried the full moon over a city getting a sharp in focus moon the 5 shot is needed and the settings are ISO/SS 125 and F 8 to 11 select for focus. .5 sec is the start center. As long as both ISO/SS are equal say a faster SS the 5 shot bracketing will work and the moon does move getting each image when processing ghosting but the faster SS reduces Ghosting just nice to play with at night. Also say a night when a crescent moon is setting but with earth shine on the dark areas this 5 bracketing will allow editing of the the dark area and say when a lunar eclipse you have the dark area before the full eclipse this also will allow editing and brightening. Just play time stuff but use a tripod. Also yes the A7SM3 is the King of low at 12MP BUT the A7RM5 at 61MP is also, just use PhotoPills Spot Stars and you will find the higher MP camera just needs Faster SS for Pin Point stars say 10s vs 20s to top that off when using a F 1.8 or 1.4 it also requires a added SS so then a 5s or even a 2s!! YES the image is still bright as day with stars. Why use the A7RM5 for Astro MW, well the MW Arch panorama can be done with say a 14mm f 1.8 or even the 24mm F 1.4 in less than 90s making run and shoot faster for different foreground subjects. The 14mm will allow portrait view arch that is over and beyond your head in July possible. The secret to the speed is keeping in camera NR on and using the stepper on a panorama rig you just go to the next click while NR is processing. I have both A7Smod 1/2/3 and the A7RM5 all have the same brightness at the suggested SS for camera and lens combo when using PhotoPills Spot Stars. I have no Idea why photographers have there image darkened foregrounds

I read your blog post about dual base ISO's on the a7rv at: S-Log3 - 800, 2500 & No Picture Profile - 100, 320... My question is: Is 100, 320 the same for PP11. If not do you know what the dual ISO's are?

Thats the worst advice of this video. You should learn to clean your sensor (the glass on top of it) any time, but you are risking your very fragile shutter blades. And what do you think the dust will go from the blades? It will damage them, or in better case itt will fall into the camera. I have seen many shutter failures because of this function. You need to learn how to clean your sensor.

I’m currently shooting with Sony A7R. Does the image stabilisation on Sony A7RV work with third party lenses like Tokina 85mm?
@keith-knittel
@keith-knittel 11 ай бұрын
You can use IBIS with any manual lens on the A7RV and most other modern Sony cameras - you have to manually select the focal length though. If you swap lenses (or are using a manual focus cine zoom) and don't remember to update the focal length in the stabilization settings, your image is going to look very wobbley. If you're using IBIS and changing focal length, then be very dilligent about updating the the settings

Great video, thanks for the info. I'm just starting out with video on my A7R V and I can't get it not to crop. Then when i change to S&Q there seems to be no crop. All I find on the forums is to set my APS_C S35 to off, but the problem is clearly not there. Seems to me you know the answer?

If you’ve set your apsc mode to a custom button, make sure that’s not pressed. There’s an icon of a box inside of another box on the bottom right side of the screen (if I remember correctly, not by my camera right now) otherwise, make sure it’s not selected in your menu, if it’s still not working I’d check the manual for more info

People don't understand that lossless compression means - by definition - that the image quality or rather binary data (after decompression) is the same. The only thing uncompressed RAW does is take up more space while saving processing power during post processing. Artists aren't technicians and lots of videos try to advocate that uncompressed RAW is better than lossless compression, but that's just isomeric nonsense.

1) 7R5 records 8K in 25p, which is the world's broadcast standard, 24p also, which is 'movie standard'. 2) of course you lose resolution when you crop.

Can you answer why when I take a picture in 1600 ISO, it has a lot of noise. My A7IV does not have that problem. 🤦🏻‍♂️
@keith-knittel
@keith-knittel Жыл бұрын
I havent done side by side comparisons with these two cameras specifically, but in general, the larger the sensor's megapixels, the more light it requires. The full frame 12MP sony sensors are great in low light, while the 60+ MP A7RV sensor requires a lot of light. The A7IV is somewhere in the middle
