Just had a rather interesting offer on one... was only in the market for the A7III but this has me tempted. Thanks for showing the differences!

Thanks for the video. Do you have any idea how is the AF performance and image quality comparing between A7R IVA and new A7 IV? Choosing between these two cameras.
@sjm.photos3 жыл бұрын
ive not used one yet but if the a74 has a detuned af system from the A1 its going to be a bit better than the a7riv version but personally for me i wouldnt down grade to the a74 as i like the 61mp for sheer detail and cropablity and the better evf its all swings and roundabouts they are all amazing today and most people wont get near the capabilities of the cameras out there.
@marcuschay89623 жыл бұрын
@@sjm.photos thanks for your reply. From KZbin I learnt the A7 IV's AF is not as fast as A1's, maybe due to slow AE and AF update where the A1 is 120x per second and A7 IV may like 20x per second. The A7R IV is also around 20x (read somewhere). I think the AF of A7 IV is just like A7R IV, maybe a little faster, not by much. I just tried the A7R IV, the 4x and 16x pixel shift for static subjects really fantastic.
@sjm.photos3 жыл бұрын
@@marcuschay8962 the A74 is 60x per second same as the A9 i read. i have said to people if you own an R camera dont buy the a74 its is a mixed bag of an upgrade in places but also a downgrade in others so wait for the a7r5

Want another body just can't decide between the A7riii or iv is there really much difference between them?
@sjm.photos2 жыл бұрын
hi pete. personally if i was going to do it again i went from the a7r2 to a7r3 to a7r4 and a7r4a but if i had thought about it again id stay with the a7r3 . so id say deffo a7r3 its so much camera for the money and there is less noise aswell. the 61mp is over kill. i now have the A1 which is 50mp and thats perfect. so between 42-50mp is spot on. hope that helps
@MrPetebuster12 жыл бұрын
Yes but i pulled the trigger on the IVA (after watching digital digests detailed differences between the 2) , for wildlife the 26mp crop i will find really useful, the A1 would be perfect but can't justify the price. When you look at all the improvements even the buttons, grip etc of the iv over the iii its quite a lot and when you factor the panomoz price and warranty seemed more logical over a 4 year old camera for another £400 new, i have the A7iv for less noise etc. I also needed to stop dithering i ordered and cancelled twice 😂😂

Why can I not choose tracking the focus points if I have wildlife choosen in the face detections ?

@@polarexpeditionmedic id say its tech related remember the camera is 5 or 6 year old tech now. remember it was in the line up of the first cameras that could do animal eye af with a few other sonys. thats all i can say. never really had any issues to be honest

I'm curious... what firmware release was the older camera using? Version 1.20 came out 08-06-2020. If you were running the comparison based on the older firmware there is a possibility (small, perhaps, but so are some of the differences you noted) that upgrading the firmware will improve the older camera.

What price difference would not make you worth buying r4 vs r4a? Is $500 difference between them would be worth for upgrade?
@sjm.photos3 жыл бұрын
the r4 is now discontinued anyway i recently bought a new A7riva for £2200 from Panamoz after selling my a7riv after 2 years and 110000 shots for £1800 so a nice little upgrade. and noticable tweaks on the A7riva vs the A7riv is the new screen is worth it big time its bright enough in normal mode for even the sunny days without having to go into sunny mode. and the extra resolution is awesome. the autofocus has also been tweaked aswell not massively but its deffo more accurate and works much better in the dark over the r4
@TheWinwin4all3 жыл бұрын
@@sjm.photos in 🇺🇸 now there are plenty of r4 for $2800-$3000 while r4a is $3500. And there are many used ones with 1.5k-5k shutters for about $2300-$2400 any day

Hey that dot I seen lot of a7 with it on video see if it picks up on video record. Btw it af is contrast basically looking for the blacks and whits but the blurr circles makes it look sharp..
@sjm.photos3 жыл бұрын
No its 100% the screen has a pixel issue not via sensor. The af on the original a7riv struggled to focus and the a7riva did it much better identical settings its phase detection and contrast detection working together but also its an f5.6 lens so quite in the deep compared to using the 135gm at f1.8 which i focused on a flying chinook helicopter in pitch dark no issues
@ozstockman2 жыл бұрын
I read and watched a lot about what is different between two and the only difference is a resolution of a screen. Everything else is exactly the same. So some saying I do not use the screen and it is not worth paying extra $500(or whatever is difference now) just for that.
@sjm.photos2 жыл бұрын
owned both deffo a difference between them
@chriscrowell66783 жыл бұрын
something is wrong with your 7RIV I have one that I bought a year and a half a go and I DO NOT have the issues your having, the thing focuses in pitch black every time with any of the lenses I own ( all decent glass ) if you are using a decent lens you should have no problem. Other than the improved rear screen resolution I found no other difference when I tried the 7RIVA. that said not sure why you would have your apeture that high in that setting but to each their own
@sjm.photos3 жыл бұрын
Makes no difference what fstop you use the lens opens up to its fastest fstop which is f5.6 on the 100-400gmaster so makes no difference if i was at f22 or f8 or f5.6 as i focus it will go to f5.6, when you focus to allow more light in. I have owned both now and also we used 2 other a7riv bodies and the a7riva out performed them slightly better.
@rwilifeandtravel3 жыл бұрын
Hi. If the LCD monitor on your a7riva is showing a hot pixel I think you can probably have the camera replaced for a new one by the retailer. I'm assuming you only recently got the camera.

it is actually just the lcd screen not the cameras sensor i have a 3 year warranty so can send it in when ever for repair so not to worried at the moment but well spotted.

ive only showed what i could really as very difficult to really show but it is enough to be noticed in the real world id say a 10% improvement generally how it works over all. so they have deffo tweaked it which is nice plus obviously the better rear screen and faster data transfer speeds via usb
