Just been using mine today. I have it set up next to the bird feeder with the camera on silent, so whether I shoot stills or movies it doesn't spook the wildlife. Not needing line of sight for this is brilliant since the small birds can tell when you're looking at them. The lock feature is great for having it in your pocket too. Also like that when shooting video the light stays on at the remote to warn you you're still shooting. I still need to look into the C3 options yet, but so far I really like it!

One thing worth mentioning about this remote is that it will disable your location information link from the phone (if you're using it). Unfortunately (because they're both Bluetooth) it's either the remote - or the location info. If there's a way around it to get both I'd love to know about it.

Hi Mark. I have the a6400 and looking for a remote but... Aside from the obvious Bluetooth benefits I think it's not a step up from the IR remote. The IR remote has more features, more control like preview, slideshow, complete joystick function and so on. I had the HX400V Camera before which had a smart Sony app on it which enabled me to just wave my hand close to the electronic viewfinder and it used that event to start exposing, I didn't needed external remote. I wish Sony kept this option. I'm still going to buy the IR remote, live with the directivity issue but have more control. Especially now when a6400 has a flip screen I could see where I'm placing focus, preview, delete. I'm also sure the IR LED can be replaced with a higher performance LED to improve outdoor daylight behavior. Maybe the 2nd gen bt remote will be more practical. The Sony office is one floor below where I work, maybe I'll give them a hint 😄

It's a neat remote and better than many a wired release or radio release that still needs to be plugged into the micro USB socket. Much to like and a lot smaller, more portable and easier to use in practice than having a connection lead via USB socket. I have experimented with a range of remotes (budget to premium) and this is one of the best, albeit not without some niggles and nuances in use. Some Issues: 1) Range is limited (tested and OK up to to circa 5+m) and an issue for me in some situations - for absolute reliability and longest range use I still find that a couple of Pocket Wizard triggers, with receiver unit plugged via cable into micro USB socket is a superior solution (eg remote triggering for wildlife at a longer distance). Ditto for remote camera covering sports (not that we can shoot much sport whilst C-19 still affects most events). That said PWs are a much bigger, clunkier solution (albeit the absolute long long range and reliability remain unbeaten). 2) Multi camera use is limited. Bluetooth can be a bit 'iffy' with the potential to lose connection. I find if paired for two separate cameras it will only stay paired with last set and has to be re-paired again when switching to second camera. That's irritating and less intuitive in practice than just plugging in a reliable PW unit to each camera you want to trigger. 3) It's essential to remember to switch off Bluetooth, when finished, or can potentially drain your camera battery. 4) As others have mentioned, loss of GPS data for auto location tagging - because you can only have one BT pairing running at any one time. I'm still experimenting but so far so good. Seems more reliable than when attempting to trigger via a smartphone and Sony's buggy app.

Hi Mark, thx for the review. But I have a question. You say starting 0:49 that "you should not use IR (or wired) but BT." Why not using IR? The range of IR can be much longer than BT, up to 20 meters. and sometimes even more. This BT RC has a range of only 5 mtrs (acc. to the specs.) , maybe 10. I'm starting with lightpainting and will be more then 5 meter away from my camera. So, can you please explain your preference for BT?
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
IR needs line of sight with the IR receiver in the front of the camera. If you are standing behind the camera IR would need the separate Sony IR receiver that is capable of picking up the signal from any direction. With the Bluetooth you don't even have to be able to see the camera. I am never more than 5 metres from my camera so your needs may differ from mine.
@stevemckenzie47315 жыл бұрын
Had mine for a few weeks. Overkill (and expensive) for a stills shooter who only uses one button to fire the shutter although far superior to every other solution I've tried. As a seascape shooter, the remote affords additional protection by not requiring a wired connection to the side of the camera. Also saves time (and frustration) on those pre-dawn shoots. Works well although I'm finding that I sometimes have to touch the shutter button on the camera if I want to fire off another shot immediately after the last. Range is excellent btw.

You did not show the actual setup pairing of the remote with my A7Riii . I’m having problems making the remote talking with my camera . The tech at the Photo dealer could no make it pair also. Frustrated!!!

i had the same issue, there is one extra step needed that is not on the video, see my post above if needed.

This is massive. Couldn't Sony come up with a neat compact version of it? We are not talking about a TV remote...

It's exactly the right size for me.

Can i control focus through my mobile via bluetooth
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
This question does not relate to this product overview. The answer to your question depends on the version of the app being run on the phone (and the version on the camera) and the camera model itself.

Is it possible to move the Flexible Spot in AF?
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
You can move focus in Manual AF but I am not aware that you can move the Spot AF point. If you are standing away from your camera I am not sure how useful it would be to do this unless you can see where the Spot is being moved to.
@luiscruz05304 жыл бұрын
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thanks so much mark. I was thinking maybe for quick Focus Stacks where you want multiple shots with AF, so moving the Flexible Spot without touching the camera
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend Manual Focus for this procedure.
@luiscruz05304 жыл бұрын
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I just received the Controller. Thanks. Controlling the manual focus is so slow, it takes 1 minute to go thought all the focus range, is there a way to speed it up?

For Sony users who engrave photos in bulb modes, this remote control is of no use, as you cannot see the time on your camera's screen
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
I use my watch. You can see the time in Bulb mode on the A7RV
@ralflinckens3026 Жыл бұрын
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Now use the stopwatch on my phone myself, but if you can read it from your screen on the camera what the time is, it's more practical. In addition, brands such as Canon, Nikon, etc. have this as standard. Hopefully, the Sony A7 mark IV will also have this in the next update.

I'm unfamiliar with remote controls, can someone please tell me what is the range of this remote control? How far can I be from the subject I'm trying to photograph?
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
Sony lists 5 Metres (16.4ft) - this is the distance from the camera. The distance to your subject is not relevant unless you are standing with your subject looking back at the camera.

Unfortunately the BT remote dose not allow me to zoom when shoot Raw+JPG mode .. WTF ?? Why??
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
That would require the camera to be able to crop a Raw file or save a cropped JPEG and Full Resolution Raw. Even when you choose the 16:9 aspect ratio in Raw the camera still saves the full resolution Raw file.

Sony should first develop a functioning mobile app. Playmemories is a pain in the ass and on many mobiles it could not even be installed. That is a shame for Sony.

PlayMemories is now history as it has been replaced by Imaging Edge.

I've used this remote 3-4 times with a max use time of about 15-20 minutes and it has died. This thing is garbage in my opinion.
@AlphaCreativeSkills3 жыл бұрын
I typically get more than a year's use from the remote on a single battery - I would try putting in a new battery and try again. The device does not drain batteries any quicker than your TV remote so I suspect user-error or a defective unit.
