The Sony BRAVIA 9 Mini LED TV was launched at Sony Pictures Studios back in March with the Sony BRAVIA 8 OLED and BRAVIA 7 Mini LED also breaking cover. As well as the TVs there are also BRAVIA Theatre products including new soundbars and a Home Theatre system. Sony is not removing OLED TVs from their line-up, the A95L continues for another year.
Read our full in-depth article - www.avforums.com/news/sony-br...
Sony has finally revealed the BRAVIA 9 TV model number for the 2024 flagship, based on the backlight demonstrations that were given in Tokyo late last year to a small group of journalists and again in closed-door demonstrations at CES in January. I was so impressed at the prototype demo I received at CES that we gave Sony a ‘Best of CES’ award on the spot. To finally see the product in person and with a model number was interesting and a good opportunity to see some content playing without half of the screen missing as was the case in the earlier demos.
While Sony will never divulge figures for backlight zones, the number of Mini-LEDs used or the peak brightness nit values, the BRAVIA 9 is designed to be the brightest set it has ever produced based on technology and know-how from the company's professional grading monitors.
The latest grading model, the 31-inch BVM-HX3110 is capable of achieving 4,000 nits peak brightness and in demonstrations, it is incredibly impressive with HDR content looking natural and life-like, as intended. The sun in the sky behind clouds has stunning peak highlight detail, mixed with superb mid-tones and blacks, that give the image depth and realism.
The technology used by Sony to achieve this peak brightness and accuracy with HDR content at 4,000 nits is trickling down to the consumer BRAVIA 9 which will be capable of achieving at least 3,000 nits peak with some degree of accuracy for HDR content.
Sony has decided to use the BRAVIA branding to rename its TV and Home AV products to make it easier for consumers to choose and combine products within the range and understand the levels that the products perform in. By simplifying the naming convention the company hopes that consumers can easily identify the products that will suit them most within the line-up and be able to understand the product hierarchy easily. This change will take some time to work through for the entire range as some models will be staying around for a while with the older model naming structure.
Those screens remaining in the line-up for most of 2024 are the A95L QD-OLED, A90K WRGB OLED, X90L, X85L, X80L, X75WL and W800 LCD TVs.

If I was cynical, I'd say that Sony wishing to make both OLED and Mini-LED sets is an attempt to keep prices high as production economies of scale won't kick in to the extent as they would if Sony only made TVs with one technology.

If i buy the Bravia 9 tv and get the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9, I'd like to hook up my Playstation 5 and Amazon Firestick 4K Max and the sound bar to the hdmi 2.1 ports. However, there are only two 2.1 hdmi ports on the Bravia 9 tv itself. Is there a way to get the full utilization of the 2.1 hdmi ports for all three of the abovementioned devices?
@SquawkBox13

I haven't looked at the HT9 bar specs yet, but I would hope that it would have at least a couple HDMI ins itself, and would also assume/hope that those would allow 2.1 passthrough?? But, I also would have assumed 3 years ago that Sony would have upgraded to 2.1 across all 4 HDMI in their TVs by now, so...
@Nwordplzplz
@Nwordplzplz 4 күн бұрын
You don't need an HDMI 2.1 for your Firestick 4K Max. You can plus that directly into one of the HDMI 2.0 ports on the TV. Your Soundbar and PS5 would go directly into the HDMI 2.1 ports.

To be fair, most people aren't buying a TV at that price anyway, so you would have to be an enthusiast or have money, and an enthusiast would probably seek a larger setup/make space for it, and richer people have bigger spaces. But still seems an odd decision.

My only guess for the UK sizes is that they think the market prefers OLED.. There's a bit of history of UK preferring the better contrast, I remember many moons ago Panasonic supplying lcd tvs with VA panels for UK models instead of IPS. Plasma also did a bit better in the UK, if I'm not mistaken.

Nice to see Sony put a bit of effort into this tech after their history with amazing sets like the ZD9. The backlight demos here look super impressive might actually be for real this time.

Sony has delivered over the years some of the dumbest decisions I've seen from top AV manufacturers. Last year in the US they didn't even release 65" & 75" versions of the X95L but this year they're releasing bravia 9 in all its sizes in the US but omitting the 65" version in Europe, it's like brainless fools are making the decisions over there. I'll think under the mass amount of pressure they'll decide to include the 65" version in Europe at some point.

@Nwordplzplz
@Nwordplzplz 17 күн бұрын
Nope! Gaming on OLEDs is unmatched. Mini LEDs have to typically cut their dimming zones in half to achieve lower input lag. OLEDs will always be faster since they can turn pixels on and off when needed. Plus Sony only has two HDMI 2.1 ports.
@thatsamazin-
@thatsamazin- 5 күн бұрын
Oled is definitely best for gaming because of the pixel response time. The Bravia 9 is a mini led but the Bravia 8 will be Oled. Although the b9 would still be an excellent gaming tv, I don’t think it will out perform an Oled overall in gaming. Currently, the G4 appears to be the brightest oled so if I wasn’t on a budget, I’d choose the g4 myself. Plus, the Bravia’s will only have 2 hdmi 2.1 ports vs 4 on the other TV’s. For some people, that could be an issue considering a lot of people will use a sound bar for one hdmi2.1 because it’s the one that’s the “earc” input as well. This would leave you with only one hdmi 2.1 input for a single console or pc. Some people would like to be able to plug in ps5 AND pc on same tv. Or ps5 and Series X on same tv. It limits your options as far as I understand. I’m no expert but just going by what I’ve read mostly so far.
@Nwordplzplz
@Nwordplzplz 4 күн бұрын
@@thatsamazin- You're absolutely right. There's nothing like playing on an OLED. 4x HDMI 2.1 inputs are the way to go. I'd hate to drop down to a TV that had two HDMI 2.1 inputs unless it was specifically for gaming. Hopefully Sony and MediaTek release a TV with 4x HDMI 2.1 inputs in the future.

I suspect Sony marketing are basically playing silly-buggers. The A95L will not be attractive in the minds of the consumer as it is 2nd generation panel, now, only 6 months after it was launched, up against 3rd generation panels from LG and Samsung. I suspect the A95L is not selling as well as they’d hoped and thus not want to cannibalise any remaining potential sales by announcing a new QD-OLED tv or a 65” A9 in the UK.

Of course it's not selling well. The average price for TV sales is $1400. The 55" A95L is $1200 more then the average. Heck, u can get a 98" TCL for $2k, $800 less than a 55" a95L. I love oled, but most people just want a big bright picture.

The difference between oled and lcd is much much smaller than it was 10 years ago, OLED is still the best, but you can see why people go for the larger LCDs.
