I'm sure this will probably be the best looking LED-LCD ever produced, but it will also certainly still lack the precision of OLED/QD-OLED. While that zone control is nicely upgraded, it's still quite crude compared to per pixel dimming
@connor040606
@connor040606 5 ай бұрын
I have to disagree. If they can control the zones more precisely, the Mini LeD panel will greatly outperform OLED due to the massive brightness increases.

I just don't get the attraction. Why not hold onto your OLED and just wait for full uLED panels?
@stephenpatterson8056
@stephenpatterson8056 5 ай бұрын
@connor040606 It doesn't matter how precise they are because zones are far bigger than pixels. Even the most precise of local dimming techniques still won't fully be able to compete with pixel level control. Each zone is still trying to manage a cluster of pixels. This will help them get bright sure, but I still don't see the need to strive to go beyond 1,500 nits or so. Filmmakers have had the ability to grade to those levels and higher for years and the majority of them still choose to grade HDR at 1000 nits or less

In fact, Sony has very advanced technology in regards to backlight scanning/strobing. They addressed that question tonight on the Sony After Hours Support show and it's largely because the MediaTek processors still provide the absolute best image processing technology. However, most gamers that swear they need four HDMI 2.1 ports never even end up actually using more then two of them anyways. Plus, how hard is it to simply unplug one device and plug another one in if you have to? Why is that believed to be such a massive burden? If you would rather have four HDMI 2.1 ports than the best possible image processing, the part that actually determines how well your game-play goes...

We know the QN90C has 720 zones in 65". And the X95L 65" has 480 zones. 3x480= 1440 zones. That is double the QN90C. So either it has a lot less than 3x, barely even 2x or it's a QN95C at 1440 zones (actually is in 65") and they labeled it wrong. Something doesn't add up. Maybe the 65" has a lot less zones than the 85"? A 3x 85" Bravia 9 compared to 85" X95L would land around 2600 zones. Since it's up from 860 zones. In any case, it's more zones and we can see it. It is bested by the new QD-OLED's but not by a mile and none are yet available in 83" or higher. And I agree, no downsizing! The LG G4 will be substantially brighter with MLA in 83" for the first time this year. It will also likely have better processing than the A90J. But it won't have the higher color volume of the QD-OLED's. So the G4 would be your best bet in this year's tv's but if I was in your shoes, I'd keep holding out another year or two. By then we should have 3,000nit QD-OLED's in larger sizes that will really knock your socks off!

6:28 This is exactly why mini led will never be able to compete with oled, no matter how many zones they have--the backlight must pass through a diffuser which causes the blooming effect.

Depends on the algorithm to negate that maybe they’ve had a break through!

I've only just switched to a QD-OLED monitor and while it's certainly better in dark scenes and the motion clarity is amazing, it's quite underwhelming in bright scenes compared to my FALD LCDs and the VRR gamma flicker is insanely distracting in some games.

@@NexGenTekNo such thing as a breakthrough when local dimming zones are physically larger than each pixel. No LCD TV with any algorithm can compete with OLED when it comes to overall picture quality, contrast ratio, response time, etc. LCD only wins in brightness.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M Picture quality will be opinion based this year with the new TVs. This will be my second non oled. Contrast ratio sure. It doesn’t need infinite with 4000 nits. Response times are so low now it makes no difference unless you’re playing esports on a 75inch! The HDR will blow you away. My Z8H still has scenes that my oleds just can’t match.

The reason is cost and paying LG. Profit. Sony should be concentrating on Micro-LED and nit Mini-LED. To make it less expensive. All Sony is, is design and processing. They do a great job of it, but business is always first. Once Micro-LED is inexpensive enough in about 5 years, of they stick with it, these channels and upgrading will be obsolete. Problem is; This Mini-LED TV will cost the consumet more than a nrand new OLED.

Concentrate on something that has no hope of turning a profit for many years, that your competition will steal anyway? And do that at the expense of developing your already profitable lines? You sir are no business genius.

It's already looking more and more now like MicroLED may never be able to be brought down to a price point that it is affordable for the general consumer. More than likely, manufacturers will just end up skipping that technology altogether and moving on to something else that they can mass produce at an affordable price for the general market.
