Color wise they look very similar, the qd oled looks more red, the camera probably exaggerates it some, but you did mention seeing it in person too. The blues and greens look almost identical, so I'm sure in person it's closer in tone. This good for showing that they are both master series in terms of calibration. It doesn't have the contrast of the OLED, no way around that. The image looks less 3d and "more like a tv" on the LED. I won't say washed out, but comparatively speaking... That said I also see it on mostly bright screens so it could be partially just the camera trying to handle 2 different brightnesses. (although I'm would imagine in person the qd oled still has a 3d effect that isn't matched) Shadow detail is a bit better on the Bravia 9, but it's nothing you can't match by raising the brightness on the a95l up a click or two. Easy fix if you prefer one over the other in that regard. The motion on the Bravia 9 is better as you'd expect on lower framerate content. You can really see it in spiderman when the villain is walking. I played it a few times at .25 and .5 to confirm. Of course for gaming at high framerate, then the OLED will more smooth. Now to be fair ALL these differences are simply what you'd expect from LED vs OLED. Both are super high quality TV's designed to be the best representation of the tech that they utilize. The fact they are so similar speaks well for Sony in terms of quality and consistency :) I'm going to watch the video now, I just skipped around real quick to get first impressions based on your camera. Now I'm going to listen to learn what it is that you see in person. I know you read your comments, what you think of the Bravia 9 vs the s95d in terms of differences and strengths and weaknesses. I know it doesn't have quite the pop of the glossy oleds and different processing/color tone vs the Bravia making me curious..

You can't say all that much from this video though. Your screen isn't capable of displaying 2 different screens the way they're supposed to look. You can infer some things, but that's also about it. It goes through 3 different layers. The recording itself, then KZbin's decoding algorhythm and compression and finally the screen you use. Also OLEDs just have poor contrast compared to LEDs. There's a difference between contrast ratio and contrast. OLEDs have excellent contrast ratios, but in terms of actual contrast there's no contest and high-end LED destroys high-end OLED. Contrast ratio does matter obviously, but it's not the same as contrast.

I agree with a lot. But as you said you can raise on the A95L for shadow detail. In the same vein you could tweak the B9 to have more contrast too. And for color, same thing just up the color a few notches from 50 or even turn on live color on low instead. The B9 wasn't even going all out with just 35 brightness and no peak luminance. Can only imagine how much brighter that would be. So even still the camera seeing the B9 a little brighter could slightly lift contrast and color on camera. I am frankly amazed how close they are. I mean the B9 is a minilED. It doesn't have 8.3 million dimming zones lol. It has 1512 in the 65". The 75" would look even better and 85" even better than that. This was in a fairly dark room and the B9 was still there and not totally outdone in the "OLED domain". This was cinema mode as well. In professional mode chances are they would almost identical we could see that for the brief moment TKK showed professional. It was so close. Still the B9 will have it's blooming here and there and micro-contrast will be with the A95L. But on the flip side the B9 will be way brighter and could do higher level HDR. Can't go wrong with either. More of a preference and use case IMO.

@@pboissie Pretty sure Sony's TV's generally show more detail and actually crush blacks less than OLEDs. Of course OLEDs would have better black levels in a test like that, but I doubt the B9 would erase any star (that said, I am curious how the 65, 75 and 85 inch models would stack up against each other in that scenario since it would truly showcase how much of a difference those extra zones make, if at all).

Well, the 85 inch one seems to have the most dimming zones and the 65 inch one seems to fall a bit short in terms of dimming zones. The 75 inch one is probably a middle ground. I've heard nothing but praise for the 85 inch model. Not sure which one this one is, probably the 65 or 75 inch one. For the max potential of this TV one would need to see how the 85 inch one compares (which can also be a troublesome comparison with large size OLED versions of this size either being not available or insanely expensive).

I just bought a new Bravia 9 75 inch as the 85 inch is not in stock anywhere. Keep in mind that I originally bought a G4 77 inch but canceled it due to sticker shock and buyers remorse. Then I bought the G3 at the same size, and then found the Bravia 9, so I canceled the G3. My Bravia 9 is being delivered in a couple of days. I am upgrading from a Samsung 55 inch that’s at least 13 years old, and I really wanted the 85 inch B9, but I think the 75 inch will be a massive upgrade. At first, I would like to congratulate you on being the first man testing A95L vs B9. It is said that OLED is for HDR contents (gaming and cinema) in dark rooms and the advanced LED is for SDR contents (sports and series) in bright rooms. However, B9 destroys all stereotypes about what people say. As you said, B9 is Bad Boy. Perfect in HDR cinema, HDR gaming, SDR tv series (probably the same performance on sports and documentaries) or etc. If you are a weak affordable person like me, should buy B9 but still you should buy A95L only if you have a cinema room (isolated and sophisticated room). Thanks man.

Speaking of the blooming comment you saw. I think what he is referring to is the fact that even with pixel level control, the light still has some bleed. We all know light doesn't just magically stop at the edge of the pixel. So the pixel that is on next to the off ones, will light themup some. You can see this using white text on any OLED if you raise the brightness enough. You get a small halo inherently. However a LCD has this same effect, plus it gets brighter, plus there is legit leakage on the backside too. So no way around it, the LCD will always be worse in that regard. See I've thought about this too before. What you'd want ideally is a way to have the pixels that are off absorb all of that stray light. Just that little bit of light that reacts with the screen before it gets to your eyes. If it could be absorbed by a material, it would also have better reflection handling since those would also be absorbed. There are materials that do this, so perhaps at some point we can get a system like this. Instead of a screen coating that goes all the way across, you'd use a material that could absorb low level reflections and light "leakage" from the front. Like a "negative pixel" Just many small spot that absorbs low levels of light near it, mini black hole near each pixel to catch the stray light.

That Bravia 9 is truly impressive. It has a more realistic & life like picture while the A95L looks more digital or like a painting. Not real. I personally think it also has more depth/3D effect than the A95L. The level of brightness displayed by the b9 that the A95L just can’t reach, paired with its great black level performance makes much more of an impact to me than the reverse. Which is the OLEDs black level vs the B9 brightness. Add in the larger more impactful size of the 85” and it’s a no brainer. Sony is still king of the hill in BOTH TV technologies.

It can beat out WOLED with color and brightness, has more than adequate black levels that are acceptable with no distracting minimal bloom, and has still the best processing out there. It also doesn't look real to me either. Everything looks too sharp or separated or whateveryou call it. There's some elements in real life that can't be captured on film and aren't used to create videos. Very subtle, hardly noticable elements. Real life looks pretty soft, not as sharp. think LED's mild blooming results in a softer image that looks more real, compared to OLED leaving it out altogether. I've seen various OLED TV's and various OLED (and AMOLED) phones in action and I have the same issue across all of them.

With OLED it can get so 3d that you feel like you're looking into a window at times. I've never had that with any other tech . With LED/LCD my brain never has that type of illusion. It's just a TV. You can raise the brightness on a OLED until it has slightly raised blacks and lots of shadow detail like an LCD/LED if you like that look. It'll also have literally 0 blooming. That's how I have my day mode set up. It definitely does create two distinctly different images in terms of the overall contrast and "feel" of the picture. Lights off the hyper contrast looks great. With the lights on, it gets too extreme and does feel exaggerated.
@claudiovic88

@@paulcox2447 I know what you mean, the 3d effect on the OLEDs is fantastic, not comparable, but listen, I have upgraded recently from a X90F to an X95L, and the blooming control is just ridiculous good, even with white subtitles on black background, you can barely notice it, and this with auto dimming set to medium. As far as 3d effect, is much stronger on the X95L compared to normal LED. And the brightness, is just blinding, watching explosions, fires, feels like you almost feels the heat, it's beautiful. Concluding, I think LED( miniLED) vs OLED is just a question of personal preference, they both have their strengths a weakness but I truly believe the future is gonna be miniLED/microLED, OLED is not gonna be able to keep up with crazy brightness levels, heat management and burn-in at such high levels of brightness is gonna be difficult to control.

Great video! I think you might be the first one to make a comparison video on something very relevant: A95L vs B9. This is what people are interested in. You deserve all the acknowledgement! My conclusion from watching your video: is amazing how many details you can see on the Bravia 9 due to its higher brightness, details that are hidden from view in the A95L - both in the cartoons and in movies. This is a limit that OLED technology can't match. Image on both looks good, but - especially seeing that initial background picture - you can see that in the A95L the color volume is higher. Not sure that can be fixed in custom settings or professional calibration in B9 to match the color volume of A95L. Regarding the black levels - you can't really see any difference in the video, but I feel that it might be a difference in watching when you are in front of the TV. OLED technology is known for contrast and black levels, and I imagine that the A95L has an advantage when you are in front of the TVs, but in the video there isn't any difference. As a suggestion for a future comparison video B9 vs A95L: please test HDR movies, sport content like tennis and football (soccer not the American football 😂), also regular cable TV watching in standard and high definition - for some reason CNN has always been the reference channel in comparing TVs 😂

Technically correct as only OLED TVs can render pure black so when you do the math OLEDs come up with infinite contrast ratio. But perspectively with the BRAVIA 9's near OLED blacks and much higher peak luminance the BRAVIA 9 delivers more depth and detail in all images from all content. With all this said I do moderately prefer the A95L's QD OLED color saturation which is moderately better than Sony's BRAVIA 9. All OLED fans, which includes me should see Sony's new flagship BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV in person. We have the 65" and 75" BRAVIA 9 on display in our showroom butt next to the A95L and LG's G4 MLA OLED TV and everyone that visits our store prefers the BRAVIA 9. One more item to know is that the BRAVIA 9 and their new BVM-HX3130 Mastering Monitor has the same 2nd generation of Sony's Backlight Master Drive that controls every tiny MinLED and the color and luminance level of each MiniLED and they both have the same peak luminance capability of 4,000 nits. Soon we will see more movies coming out that will be mastered at 4,000 nits and for BRAVIA 9 owners you will see the new movies exactly as they were mastered by the filmmakers. All other MiniLED TVs only control the local dimming zones, Sony's BRAVIA 9 is far more accurate with it's contrast control and image rendering detail.

B9 is a minILED and I find it pretty amazing how it can almost match the A95L in contrast in most scenes etc. Even with some tweaks one could likely get it even closer and that is exciting. I can't really use an OLED for my use conditions, so having something that does it's own thing and bright AF but also being able to get close to OLED in many regards. Makes me happy. Quite a testament to how bright the B9 must be that in the cinema setting OOTB with brightness to 35 and turn off peak luminance. I understand or the exposure would be wildly different on the camera. The B9 would look blown out or the A95L very dim.

I dont think this is common knowledge so i thought i would throw it out in hope that it helps people make a better decision. The 65" is the inferior version. It has a panel with less native contrast ratio and the least amount of dimming zones. I think it is 1560 dimming zones and around 2300:1 native contrast. The 75" has a 3500:1 native contrast and 2340 dimming zones. The best and real B9 has 5000:1 contrast and 2808 dimming zones. The 85" is the one I am sure will beat the A95L in almost every category. The 65" is a step down from the A95L but better than other OLEDs. The 75" I believe is on par with the A95L and will trade blows with it. Again the difference is actually substantial from 65" - 85".
