In one case, I just had to clean the cable and the connectors. That was in 2004. It is still working to this day.

Could a power surge have damaged the connections? I had a similar Sony player, and there was a sudden, extreme power surge (caused by a Maintenance guy who forgot to cut the power to the apartment), and fried something because I was never able to use the Disc 2 spot ever again without getting some rather nasty audio side effects (I can’t really explain the sound, except to say that there was a - and correct me if you know what the proper name for this is - distorted/fuzzy popping sound, not syllabance but would affect the entire audio track.)

Looks to be physical damage with the ribbon cable. If your player plays any disc it should play them all. Only a mechanical problem with that one disc spot could cause a problem just with disc 2. Like something scraping on the disc because the plastic is warped.

@@StevesElectronicRepairShop nah. I was there when it happened…and listening to a Molly Hatchet cd in the disc 2 spot. I did, though, always wonder why just one would be affected like that. And, if you ever smelled wires fried…then you know what the whole apartment smelled like! What a stench that was!

Hello steve! I have one of these and the plate that holds the discs doesn't rotate and doesn't even moves. I would be very grateful if you could tell me a possible solution, thanks!

There is a belt on the top side that does the tray. If that is still ok I would check you can rotate the platter by hand using the motor or pulley on the other end of the belt. If that is fine you would need to check whether voltage is getting to the motor. Sometimes the motor drive ICs can fail. I will be putting out another video today where I pull a couple of these players completely apart to make one.
