Sony Creators App Wired Connection Update + Better Performance on Android!

There's a lot of info thrown at the screen at this video, especially in such a short time frame but basically;
- New settings mode on the Sony Creators App to more easily allow direct usb connection from your mirrorless camera to your iOS/Android device.
- Overall better performance of the wireless video on more android devices, similar lag on Samsung S10 to iPhone 13 mini (when connected to Sony a7iv)
-Wired USB lag similar to wireless connection within about 4 metres
-Still slower than HDMI like Ninja V but offers lots of convenient controls and touch tracking support through device.
Please comment if you want more info or more in depth tests with more devices.

Thanks for the heads up. This will make a world of difference for some of the work I do, plus I can quickly upload photos without having to disconnect/reconnect the wifi/bluetooth.

Did a test today, for a 1gb file it was 16 seconds, from sd card to phone via sd card reader, 20 seconds via USB c to usb c, and 80 seconds wirelessly on both android and iPhone. Wired connection much much faster for large file transfer. For one or two photos though, wireless is fine.

I was so excited when I found this video. I did not know about the creators app at all.. I have the Sony A73. Turns out.. not compatible. so. That is disappointing.

Yes that's a shame but you should still be able to use the imaging edge app for some camera control.

You're right yes, I should have probably mentioned that in the video. I've come to start to separate Sony cameras in my head by generations and the features they offer. I talk all about it in my video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmGbfKCVqpZ-qacsi=_tc4KO0lh9dwM8oM but yea unfortunately, only the 4th generation cameras onwards support touch tracking in the app, cameras such as the a6700, fx30, a7iv, a7cii, a7siii, fx30, zve1, a7rv, a7cr, a1. and what I consider their first 5th generation camera the a9iii. That said I wouldnt consider it a dealbreaker if your getting good results already with your current camera, just nice features to have in the newer model. Cheers

@@AxelWolstenholme Not sure if I missed it or.. But the A7S III and A1 are still not supported for Sony Creators App. They will be later this month (March 2024) with Firmware update according to Sony.

@@anas_almajedI’m not using the “Kkreators App”. Sony can suck off my 50 1.2 & A1 on iOS 14 Imaging Edge Mobile. I’m not going to be a sheep for third party marketers

At 2 minutes I state the footage is played back at 24fps, I forgot to mention I also slowed the video down again to 25% at certain parts to be able to see the delay better.

Thank you for detailed video! I just checked the Creators App and was surprised that even A7Siii is too old for this app :-) It's a shame because i'm waiting for the app or monitor or that will be working correctly with touch tracking. Monitor+ app and Portkeys monitors has a possibility to touch to track, but there is no box indicator on screen to see where is the tracking box at the moment. So i still have to check it on the tiny camera screen :-(

Yes in a previous video I compare a7c, a7siii, a7iv and fx30. Touch tracking does work with a7siii but as you said no tracking box, hopefully fixed in an update but still working just about if not.

@@AxelWolstenholme yes with 3.0 it has touch focus in creators app. But with monitor app I couldn't manage to find touch focus.

Ok cool, cheers for info, prior to that update you could touch focus but there was no white square tracking box that would come up to show what was tracking, (unless I couldn't find in settings) so a square tracking box shows up now?

it worked for me using a lightning to usb (camera) adapter, with that you can connect all sorts of usb peripherals. Then usb a - c to the camera. I would guess you need this adapter as it has a usb controller inside wheras a simple lightning to usb c cable supplies power and treats the phone as the attached device - for connecting to pc to transfer files or whatever.

Axel, which USB-C to lightning adapter worked for you?

search for - Lightning to USB Camera OTG Adapter for iPhone - that should work, I got the one with both a usb a port and a charging port on the dongle so I could keep the phone powered while using. Then use a simple usb a to usb c cable to connect from the usb a port on the dongle to the camera.

Does it mean that the latency between wired and wireless connections are the same at close distances?

Yes for the most part but does depend on the environment you are working in, some indoor areas with lots of wifi/phone signal bouncing around such as gigs will incur a fair amount of lag wirelessly.

@@AxelWolstenholme thanks! I’m trying to minimise damage on my micro HDMI by using the wireless/USB-C connection for my cam. Unfortunately I still have a Lightning port on my phone, and the connection via the USB-C adapter is very intermittent

I'd recommend getting a cheap second hand samsung s21 or similar 2 year old flagship phone to use for this, works out a similar price or even cheaper than most camera monitors, plus you can touch to focus. Don't even need to get a sim card or anything for it. Good luck

@@AxelWolstenholme I’m probably going the more expensive route and upgrading to a 16 Pro Max when it’s here haha. But getting a cheap Android phone might work too since I might need it for mobile development. Are there any special limitations for lower spec Android phones I should be aware of?

@@AxelWolstenholme also do you find connecting the cable then going to the app then clicking on connect a hassle worth dealing with as compared to just connecting the HDMI? Are the features worth the hassle ignoring all else?
