I just ran into this video. About 7 or 8 years ago, My younger brother lived in an apartment building. He found this radio in the apt dumpster along with some other stuff.He gave me the radio and, I powered it up and, Everything worked. I was pretty impressed with the sound and, I cleaned it up nice and, It has been on my bedside table ever since. Good radio.

Back in the days before TV went digital, I could see why this would be called the dream machine. I personally would have wanted something like this almost too much back in the days of analog TV when I was growing up.

metalsteve01 TV bands are 6 and 10 MHz steps. Cannot be used overseas including Japan and Russia except for the Philippines that uses NTSC TV freq.

The wideband AM audio was a pleasant surprise. There is no seek tuning; if you hold down the + or - tuning buttons, it stops as soon as you let go. It does not mute the audio when tuning, though, unlike most digital tuners.
@theatomicpunkkid6 жыл бұрын
Like a Walkman. No seek on a.m. but also not muting the audio when you hold down the up-and-down scanning buttons boy they don't do it like that anymore.

The company is called "regionalhelpwanted (dot) com". They have local job web sites all over the USA and Canada. The radio commercials are the same for all the sites, they just change the name of the web site for each city/area. The agency that does the commercials is called "The Famous Radio Ranch".

KZZ31 is actually on 162.500 MHz. On 162.550 MHz (channel 1 on this radio) I get KWO35 from NYC.

The separate antenna seems like a Sony tradition, for some reason. I have a stereo model with a CD player with the same thing; seems like something out of the 1930s, but if you can't route the cord as an optimal antenna, it's probably useful. Anyway, the one thing that impressed me about some of the "Dream Machine" models was the gradual alarm fade-in; a gradual fade-out for the sleep mode would be even more useful for insomniacs, but I don't know if Sony offered that. Still, the sound quality from this one is mediocre; mine is actually pretty respectable, but some of the earlier stereo models that looked almost like it sounded horrible. Sony was always a little hit-or-miss when it came to sound quality.

The DST setting is manual, it doesn't switch automatically based on the date. You have to manually press the DST button to switch the time back or forwards 1 hour, dependent on the season of the year.

Yes, there are plenty around here... some of which even transmit in AM Stereo!

There is no 9 volt backup battery, but the owner's manual says it will retain its time and memory for half an hour if power is interrupted.
@vwestlife11 жыл бұрын
No, it does not have the alert feature.

There were some radios with UHF TV audio, but not many. It adds extra cost for limited benefit, since most areas have most of their TV stations on VHF.

I don't know why Sony left off the last two weatherband channels (162.500 and 162.525 MHz), but those are the least commonly used channels.

yup. I used to have an old GE cassette clock radio (big ol' rectangular brick) that had this, and a note in the manual to, if FM reception wasn't very good, to unplug it and flip the plug (non-polarized) around.

I like the shape of these "Dream machine" clock radios, the square shape is appealing to me for some reason.
@thealternativej79948 жыл бұрын
Then maybe the newer ICF-C1 may be also appealing to you.

I remember playing with it quite a bit when I was young. The weather portion was not very sensitive, and I don't know about the a.m. and FM. My parents had a clock radio that included the weather band. They got rid of it in about 1985.

Now I hear Mackelmore - Thrift Shop. Thanks Vwestlife. I miss those TV audio radios. Too bad they can't make one that works on DTV.

Does is have an option for batteries? I hate clock radios with just a power cord. You are screwed when the power goes out and you need to get up to go to work in the morning.

That's actually a really nice thing to have. :P

Aaah I've seen quite a few of those, but usually the older models. The LCD display makes it look cheap, as opposed to an LED display, but being able to adjust the brightness of the back light is a nice feature. Weatheradio is very useful and more radios should have it, but TV audio as well? that's awesome! I guess "Dream Machine" is somewhat accurate, if you have the radio on while you're sleeping lol

Sony made alot of their radios with the tv and weather bands in the late 90s and early 2000s. I have a pretty cool looking cd clock radio by sony with a somewhat see through display. I have a cpl walkmans too both cd and cassette models with the 4 band radios as well. I don't think any of their boomboxes or stereo systems from that era had it though

Does the weather radio have an alert function? If it receives a signal to activate from a N.O.A.A. station, will it activate with an alarm to alert you of hazards in your area?

Ive been asking how to do this for years on the dream machine models.

The weather band station in my area has a computer generated guys voice, or you could have had tuned in when it featured the womens voice that is used when giving statistics about the weather on a particular date.

I used to have that radio not too long ago but for reason the weatherband (wx band) only went to channel 5 and not to 7 i don't know why though

If NewJerseyHelpWanted Dot Com is/was anything like the local PugetSoundHelpWanted Dot Com, then the help that is/was wanted isn't/wasn't worth submitting credentials for. Didn't realize it was a giant nationwide deal.

Yup, the company is/was called "Local Help Wanted". They had hundreds of sites across the country, all with radio ads for them done by the same people. I don't think they're active anymore.
