I know rage merchants have made the concept of studios and the creative industry really nebulous in terms of who is to blame. And this is both helped/harmed by the presence of Disney and Marvel who hire really big name creatives to helm their various projects. Giving the impression that at some level, the people signing off on these films have, somewhere deep inside them, a taste and passion for cinema. But let me help illuminate what some studios (no names) are actually like on a creative level. They're the ultra rich. They haven't watched movies since they were seven years old and they don't watch TV unless it involves the daily trades. When they hire people for projects, they don't care if it makes sense, they just look at their box office numbers. They sit through pitches from acclaimed writers and directors wondering what they're gonna have for lunch. If it doesn't have an IP attached, they find a way to prescribe one. They don't read scripts, they have assistants summarize the bullet points. They're not looking to reinvent a genre, they're there to _ride_ them. It'd make little difference if they hired good writers, good writers wouldn't want to work with them, they're all told to just follow the Iron Man formula. And when their films fail, the fault goes to anything but themselves, and therefore have no reason to change their thinking. "Morbius bombed? Huh. Well we sunk $5 million into pre-production for Kraven so let's keep that going." So what if it bombs? They don't care. They've got golden parachutes waiting if things get _really_ bad.

Lol ironboy here got the disney protag treatment and had a pi55ing contest with other spiderman in misery in No Way Home. Even disney is trash when it comes to Spiderman adaptation since they just told a new origin story for spiderkid in a different setting and till NWH came out , He was still ironboy and none of his rogue gallery had personal connect with him and were villains made by Tony Stark / the Avengers(in case of vulture in homecoming) It's only in NWH where he faces the consequences of his actions WHEN FACING TOBY'S AND ANDREW'S ROGUE GALLERY that he learns about dangers of being spiderman.

Take notes from the Penguin show, if they wanted to make an origin story of a villain. Don’t make them an antihero. Also, have Spider-Man in it lol
@JonJayAllDay21 сағат бұрын
Yeah both Marvel and Sony could take lessons from DCs success with The Penguin. Marvel is treading water due to multiple factors but one of the most common reasons I hear because the tendencies and execution of these MCU movies and shows feels formulaic and it’s gotten stale to people. Sony completely missed the mark, they had the right idea by taking Spider-Man villains and giving them their own origin stories but they tried to force them to antihero’s and nobody wants to see that especially if Spider Man isn’t gonna be in it. It’s basically over for Sony already, they just need to completely change course ASAP, but Marvel can take some of the ground work of what Sony was trying do, take a couple of elements from what made The Penguin so great, sprinkle on some that marvel charm and flair that people love and do some real super villain origin movies, and that would definitely shake and freshen things up.

The problem is, Sony can't use Spider-Man as long as they have their deal with Marvel. So they can't use Tobey or Andrew in a live action movie. One question would be, does that "no Spider-Man" rule only apply to Peter Parker? What about Miles or Gwen? If they could use a live action Spider-Gwen, then that may be an answer. They are using Spider-Man Noir in a live action series so they may be able to use other versions of Spider-Man as long as it's not Peter. Those contracts can be very specific sometimes, leaving big loopholes. The actual contract isn't public so we just don't know what the rules are and what the loopholes are.

Two things people need to be really talking about with this universe are the fact that all these films minus Madame Web were head produced by Avi Arad. If you know that name, you’ll know he’s been a part of many, very bad comic book film adaptations. Another thing we have to keep in mind, is that these films followed the now tired trope of turning a villain into an antihero. That trope has only worked rarely in small cases. The biggest one I can think of is Loki in the MCU, but at least that one was built up and they didn’t rush it through one movie.

It's interesting that they fell into the same trap they fell into when making the Raimi 3and Webb 2 movies, but on a universal scale, this time, without the one person that would make a foil for what's supposed to be villains for him. She gets nabbed by variant AG, they go through multiverses, plot, plot, visit Tom Holland's world, introduce his Venom, cause mayhem in his world, he becomes Anti-Venom. Plot, then they get sucked in Secret Wars with RDJ as Dr. Doom our villain but plot-twist he's actually OG Tony Stark. And they meet Madame Webb for no reason. It’s kinda fitting the Kraven killing the Sonyverse. In the comics, Kraven unalived himself in the 80s I believe. Then was resurrected after a little over 20 years in real time. That pose they got the actor doing is part of the comics, but the lines in that panel involving saying “did no one ask if he even want to come back?” Nowadays Kraven goes after Spider-Man mainly because he’s the only one that can kill him due to the resurrection spell making him the only one that can do it and can’t even delete himself.

25:09 That would've been a more fitting name for SSU to be honest since it doesn't even have an official name in the first place.

Nah, let them learn. If we keep accepting their crap, Sony will continue to shat in our cheerios.

Miles Morales is going to be in the MCU like Peter. Kevin Fiege said they're just waiting for the Spider-verse movies to end

"We choose who we are Spider-Man!NOW CHOOSE!!" he chose the kids and MJ...Spidey didn't choose to save Kraven from record-breaking box office disaster. 🤣

the worst idea was Marvel selling-off spiderman to Sony.

Its def implied Andrew Killed. And Tobeys also "killed" the guy who killed uncle ben in the first movie and then ofcourse with Black suit attempted to kill sandman and harry. So them both trying to save Toms spiderman and having him be the spiderman who didnt kill was very well done.

I dont know that doubling down on “Spider-men” movies is the answer either. Having a rotation of Tobey, Andrew and Holland movies i think will just dillute the character and is a sure fire way of just making people sick of spiderman. A spiderman movie should be special whenever it comes out.

Thing is I think they could’ve made these movies work. With or without spiderman. And let’s be honest, with the writing quality, adding spiderman wouldn’t have fixed anything. And the first step is to let them be villainous except for madam web. I can think of ways they could’ve made these decent without spiderman… and they couldn’t even do that

Tldr: I would love for a documentary down the line that explains exactly how the rights work. I would love for a documentary down the line that explains exactly how the rights work. First I thought Sony just needs to produce a Spider-Man movie (doesn't matter what type ) to maintain the rights to Spider-Man but Sony is already doing the spiderverse movies; that should qualify for them to retain the rights but apparently animation is different. Okay then their making Venom that should be enough but no; we get three other villan movies, does this mean each individual character needs a movie or needs to feature in a movie or else the rights go back to Marvel? Like what are the parameters of the deal? I did some reading up on the topic and found out that Sony only owns the movie rights. I assumed that they got the video game rights as well but no Marvel has either a majority or full rights to video game spidey. They just let Sony have exclusivity on the Playstation (probably to strengthen their relationship).

I know they won't do it but i would love it if they made Spider-Man 4 with Tobey. Or the Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Andrew.

First off , No way home was successful BECAUSE OF Toby & Andrew's spiderman not due to disney's ironboy & only at the end of NWH , he actually becomes spiderboy so all those movies were just a new origin story for spiderboy here. Else disney's ironboy version of spiderman would still be average and sanitized & the only reason ironboy becomes spiderman at end of NWH is due to the trauma he faces during the movies. Lol ironboy here got the disney protag treatment and had a pi55ing contest with other spiderman in misery.

@Donnie : Sorry I thought I was talking human beings with free will not domesticated human cattle from the Disney ranches who love to eat slop because that is what they are fed , day in and day out that the farmer feeds em to fatten em piggies/cows before they go to the chopshop. And if u have a brain in the skull of urs then u will know what I meant and what tone was intended.

Sony has been screwing their own adaptations and blockbuster movies like the recent 2021 Resident Evil reboot “Welcome to Raccoon City” aka the WORST live action RE movie ever! And Sony last Men in Black “MIB: International” wasn’t interesting. Let’s not forget Tom Holland in Uncharted 😓

They will absolutely do a Live Action Miles, the only real question is will it be Sony Exclusive, or will he be apart of the MCU?

Alot of the problem is that these characters are only interesting because of spiderman and the writers for these movies aren't doing a good job in making the audience care
