What's also cringe is that a huge chunk of these Sony/Playstation fanboys are adults. Like if it was just a bunch of teens babyraging over their only way to play games, then it doesn't really matter to me. But imagine being a full-grown adult and refusing to use a PC to play games because you're a "loyal console gamer".

Summed up in 2 words: tribe mentality. Humans are naturally drawn to tribal behavior, just below familial behavior. Since many dont have family, they supplant the tribe as the highest calling to defend. You see this in everything. TV shows, movies (the Twilight hot-boy wars), games, employment, hobbies, politics especially. If something threatens the tribe, they are called to defend tooth, nail, to the last drop of blood.
