Sony FX30 Low Light Not What I Expected

@@Kemstylebossy when would you have used 800? at 60fps? low light? i'd imagine the whole thing would have to be at 2500. love these types of tests btw. just yeah, definitely include ALL OF THE SETTINGS (during shooting and any post work like NR, exposure changes, etc.) in the images so we as fans and amateur videographers can understand the full picture.

@@Teh_Chosen_Juan you can go even little bit higher with the iso, sometimes you get cleaner image, even if its out of base iso range, like i shot with zv e1 on 12.800 which is base iso, and after testing i found out, 25.600 iso makes clean image, on slog3 you just need to put down the gamma and so in post, but the point is, this iso i used is much higher but looks cleaner less noiser than the 12.800 iso, so if you have 2500 base iso, i guess you can go up to 5000 iso for shure, maybe even 8000 iso or something like this, its all about testing the camera you have, it takes some time, but thats how to get the best results, and keep in mind the message of this is, sometimes you can go behind the border, you not limited by the base iso, always, i mean maybe some more dynamic range idk but i mean if you shoot low light, you want the cleanest image even if its more aggressive noise reduction when turning iso higher. At the end we want clean image on low light and little less sharpness because of more noise reduction maybe isnt even bad, aswell with fx30 which is much sharper with its 6k downsampled sensor. And btw. people who say the fx30 is only a b cam they are totally wrong, i mean its just the same image as fx3 or so. Many people shoot on fx30 there sport movies type shots, like Football type things, its all limitation in mind, i mean if you need espiacelly a fullframe sensor because of its wider field of view than ok, but most times a tighter field of view looks much more cinematic btw. its just a want but not a need in 99 percent. @@Kemstylebossy this camera is excellent in low light...I have done about 80 hours of video work this summer with about 15 hours done at night, downtown Montreal...my FX30 never let me down...only once in a very low light situation did I wish I had the FX3....however the FX30 still gave me very good footage I just could not get all the shots I wanted....do not forget...the 100k 35mm Arri Alexa only has a super 35 sensor...the FX30 can outperform this camera in low light...heck I think it even outperforms the 6k and 8K Red cameras in low light

No, just converted and tweaked the colors a bit. Most if not all footage was shot at f1.4. Graded in Davinci Resolve.

it's all about the lenses! I have this Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the 30mm f1.4 as well as a Sony 18-105mmf4 and a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8! All used for different lighting conditions...I wish there was a Sony PZ lens at 2.8 or 1.8!! imposible...although I still have my Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with the sigma adapter and is good for video but a bit heavy...I don't need nor can afford full frame...

@@thatguybgreen I got the 18-50mm with mines as well. Had the 16&30mm from my a6400 days. I would only suggest them for low light scenarios, even tho they’re way sharper than the 18-50 but if u shooting alot of low light by all means go for it.

@@thatguybgreen well...I have those lenses too...if you shoot at f1.4 you can half the ISO needed...so if you had to use ISO 3200 with the f2.8 to get proper exposure (I usually just use s-cinetone-I don't care about Slog) then with f1.4 you can use ISO 1800..in theory cleaner video but honestly I can use up to ISO 4000 before I see problems-just get the proper exposure. I use them all for different reasons. A zoom is very useful for weddings and for gimbal I use the 16mm...but active stabilization there is a crop- I may get a Sigma 10-18mm f12.8 in the future.

@@TheFandangovideoguy I think you're onto something here...I think im'a set up a low light preset that ditches s log for cinetone. I think the idea of slog forces me to always use it and that limits the functions of the camera vs the slog range and grabbing the shot is better than not. Thanks man

I recently filmed in a mountain cave, during a heavy rainy day with thick clouds, and this natural cavity only opens about 2 meters high by 8 meters wide. It means very low intensity of natural light, to a point we had to use lamps to move around and set the gear even though it was daytime. To light up the sequences in the cave, my only ressources were 2 Godox TL30 LED tubes + 1 palm-size Godox rectangular LED lamp, for a total of under 100W of power. Some sequences have some digital noise in the darker portions of the image, that's the game and one has to accept it. But one thing remained constant and sticky : the AF system, tracking all talents at any time. I had absolutely no problems with it, and I did not even bother to check or control the AF system... always spot-on ! I used my Viltrox 27 mm f/1.2, which helps a lot in achieving such nice results. Relax... your FX30 knows how to do that, and it does it so well !

@@Kemstylebossy my setup and settings are sigma 16mm at 1.4 - slog3 2500 - shutter 1/48 at 24fps. Exposure metering showing +1.7 as many suggested, but as soon as I convert color space to rec709 the noise is very visible in dark to black areas
