“Refreshing youtube every single day trying to see if anybody posted any cool footage of the camera.... 😂” yesss ☝🏽Same here . And you gave us our fix for the day , thank you. Personally , I liked what what you were able to get out of it 👍🏽. Quick tip to reduce unwanted camera shakes when shooting handheld, the thing to practice is: once you bring the back of the camera in contact with your body for that 3rd point of contact, try embracing the natural up and down movement that happens as you breath in and out. Start by slowing down your breathing, with practice you will fine tune that synchronization between the type of shot you that fits the scene and your breath... but obviously this style does not fit all projects... I look forward to the day I can justify owning a steady cam, I am in love with that style of camera movement.

If you decide to just use it handheld, you'll want to invest in a comfortable rig so you can get it setup for use on your shoulder. Haven't used any yet, but the Zacuto unit looks pretty good. I used ENG cameras that way for years, and having the camera balanced well on your shoulder makes a huge difference. I could shoot all day without getting tired as long as the rig was comfortable and well balanced.

Hoping for the a7siii at NAB this year but we will see. I have done any scientific side by side comparisons, but in regular use of both, the FX9 does tremendously better with colors and DR. Along with all of the perks that come with being a professional video camera, it’s a huge step up 👍🏻
@dna82694 жыл бұрын
Pretty massive price difference between the a7siii and fx9 lol. I feel like if you were ever going to consider actually buying the fx9, the a7siii definitely isn't marketed toward you anyway and this would be better to buy now
@AustinBlackvideo4 жыл бұрын
dn a agreed. I also don’t think the doom and gloom crowd understand how much potential the FX9 has to be improved via firmware. We could very well get XAVC 480 and 4K 120 in the FX9 at some point in the future. A7siii is a safe bet to have nice 4K 60 w/10 bit and great colors. Potentially even the same sensor. I really don’t see that cannibalizing the FX9 at all. Look at how popular the FS7 was even with strong alpha camera offerings at the time.
@greggoodenough56074 жыл бұрын
@@AustinBlackvideo I'm actually seeing the a7s iii having a stronger cannabalization issue with the a9 ii to be completely honest. They will both be 20/24 mp. The fx9 has the a9 ii focus system but adapted to video, or atleast it's best video adaptation. It won't shoot the same 20 fps, but will shoot log, which the a9 doesn't.

My issue with sony is that they keep crippling their cameras. FS5m2 felt like i was robbed and now fx9 with a 6k sensor that will never shoot 6k is ridiculous to me. Even the panasonic s1 pulls off downsampled 4k while still allowing you to shoot 6k. Then theres the external raw that bugs the hell out of me. The only thing that keeps me torn between fx9 and c500mk2 is price and variable ND.

Ok quick question ! Could you feasibly use this camera without the handgrip and mount a monitor on the top to shoot handheld? I'm thinking of making the transition from DSLR but want the versatility of a run and gun set up without at the added hassle of shooting on the shoulder and being reliant on a small viewfinder. be interested in your thoughts
@AustinBlackvideo4 жыл бұрын
That’s sort of where I’m at as well. I think no handgrip wouldn’t work. I really wish there was the option to mount the handle right to the body like I said. You could also look into different 3rd party handle options, but the bummer with that is that you lose out of the joystick

@@AustinBlackvideo Cool, I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the set up as is but I like to keep things as leans and simple as possible and all the add ons used on the FS7 for example just wouldn't suit my style. The footage looks incredible though ! is that straight out of the camera? Be good to also how easy the camera is to operate .i.e. is it easy to find your way around the menu system and set up the camera how you want out of the box? or does it take a while to set up say like the A73
@AustinBlackvideo4 жыл бұрын
David Wesson there’s definitely a learning curve to the form factor. I am sure we will see accessories to make it leaner, because I’m with you. I see lots of people over accessorize just for the sake of it. There is a small grade on all the clips. @albancousinie94554 жыл бұрын
The FX9 videos are stabilized using the Sony Catalyst Browser app, since version 2019.2 . And no you can't use it on your a7 III because it doesn't record gyroscopic data and doesn't need this : the Sony a7 III already has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). Sony used this gyroscopic technique on the FX9 because they couldn't add an IBIS to the FX9 due to integrated ND filter which is not physically compatible with IBIS.

Ben Weiner Still a valid complaint about the out of the box system. I also wish the handle could be mounted directly to the rosette so that those of us who shoot less shoulder stuff could have that option. I’m aware of the shape solution, but it doesn’t fully address what my issue is.
@benweiner77244 жыл бұрын
Austin Black right but fs7 and fx9 are rarely used with the kit essentials. Iver never seen an fs7 in the field with the out of box parts only. Lots of zacuto and shape accessories are needed. Top plates, arm extensions, evf relocators to make it way better. Try using a zacuto baseplate pro for your shoulder it’s way comfier. Also they do make 3rd party accessories that turns the fx9 grip into that side rosette ( I forget who makes it)
