As an A7siii owner I’m pissed but if I was an A1 owner I’d be livid. Especially seeing camera like the FX-30, ZV-E1 and A74 get features that could be easily implemented via firmware.

As an A1 owner I am livid, particularly features like focus breathing compensation, which has been pushed via firmware to later released and less expensive cameras. Wouldn't you appreciate the customers who bought your most expensive products and seek to serve them at least as much as your other customers? Don't get me started on the fake prores raw they released. I tested it thoroughly, with it's pixel binned artifacts and inherent contradiction in calling 4.3k from an 8.6k sensor raw, with all of the obvious compression that results from that conversion. I wonder how much innovation these companies really employ vs. integrating concepts both widely available and designed by ancillary companies. If the latter, then the majority of their focus is marketing and pushing products. If that is the case, then apathy would be expected.

If this is because they want to make money on new cameras, then why not charge for these updates to older cameras, then the revenue also increases for the Alfa series. I think many people would happily pay a penny to get updates for their older cameras but still not old Alfa cameras

Yes, only two are required, one photo centric (3:2) possibly 24MP and one video centric (16:9) maybe 8k 33mp Full frame are enough

Fingers crossed for the A7SIII. I love that camera but it's been left way behind. The new FX3 and FX30 updates are a good step in the right direction. If we don't see an A7SIII update soon, it's probably not coming.

I paid $3495 USD plus tax for my Sony A7siii and I'm not happy about the lack of firmware updates. Still a great camera, but I moved to Sony because Canon crippled their cameras now I'm having second thoughts.

David this situation is truly getting RIDICULOUS.... I mean, think about it: Internally the A7SIII and FX3 have the same parts, so there is no reason why they can't add all the new features to the A7SIII... and with the A1 (which I own), it's even worse. I mean, SONY created the new category of 'best of everything' flagship camera in the A1, not the consumer... If you are going to create a new flagship series - and charge $2000 US more than any of your other models! - you damn sure better do your best to keep it as up-to-date as possible...It's getting to the point where I'm thinking that Sony is not updating specific cameras so as to intentionally isolate certain features to certain lines, in order to stimulate more overall sales. I have already decided that I will not buy a future A1II unless Sony changes their ways, or at least acknowledges the issue in some manner.

Extremely upsetting, annoying and disappointing situation. I wonder if there's any formal or more organised thing we can do to approach Sony with a demand. I know they have control over what they do but we have all financed the development of these new cameras by buying the A1 and A7s. This degree of dismissal really isnt ok. As a Wholesale Sony User - A6400, NV1, a73, a74, a7s3 and a1 - not to mention an nx80 video cam - I have now decided that along with the lens' I will no longer be continueing in the Sony con, I have watched the way both Nikon and Canon (and more recently Panasonic - have been playing catch up and along the way exceeded the current specs of Sony be it with new models or for the most part by upgrades. This tells me that Sony simply do not get the fact they cannot appear to compete with the others in upgradability. We are simply getting equipment which at the start exceeds the competition but quickly loses its lead because they simply cannot update their equipment. Sorry Sony you have lost a customer !!

I am an A1 user and don’t feel abandoned. I bought the best camera for wildlife photography and it is still the best. I would not mind software updates, but don’t expect as the camera still does exactly what I bought

Feel your pain David, my A7Riv has missed on previous firmware upgrades. Luckily I have got the FX3 and stoked it got the firmware upgrades. It should be with A7Siii and definitely the A1.

I sold all my Lumix gear and went to Sony I have the A7sIII, I'm not happy that there are no updates. Lumix was still shelling out updates for their G9, maybe Sony thinks they have the whole market. So no need to update a camera that's a few years old!! I'm thinking about selling my a7sIII and glass. If I did that I could buy a GH6 and the S5II. Sony getting a bit cocky and no respect for their long term owners.

They did the same with firmware for the A9ll , an amazing camera with power that could take much more firmware, no updates for years. I’m currently in the process of ditching Sony, I would rather my tool be from a manufacturer that has your back and not just a hold on your wallet.

Imagine buying an iphone or gaming console and it never getting a firmware update. And those cost a fraction of the A1 and A7SIII! The Fact that a $6000 and $3500 isn't supported is honestly pathetic. I'm not switching camera systems, but I'm looking for the right opportunity. Panasonics cameras are cheaper and have tons of video features and they keep getting updates.

Great points really. Am no expert in photography, but the way the company treats you definitely push you to continue with them or move away. Apple for example updates their older iPhones for around 7 years older generations, and that means a lot to me. I usually give my older iPhones to family members that enjoy plenty of years with full up-to-date software versions. They won us over this way and I don’t think I would switch for better features in the competition anytime soon.

I went from Olympus to Nikon to Canon and then Sony for the last 5 years. After two of my G lenses failed in the last wet season here (I shoot a lot in the rain) I have one Sony lens left standing.... Repaired one of the Sony lenses but now have more issues and the repairs quickly add up to the cost of a replacement even in the Sony Pro Support program. I have replaced my failed Sony G lenses with Tamron glass.......basically after watching reviews on your channel David.. Once my A7R4 gives up the ghost I think I am headed back to Nikon. Sony has been good.....but the rest have caught back up IMO.

It's a little bit said that it's better to be late adopter and wait several years to see how the camera will turn out. When you look at history it was unexpected shock when the FX3 was released very close after A7Siii without any prior notice.

As an outsider (non-Sony shooter) looking in, it does indeed seem that Sony really wants to bifurcate their hybrid and entry-cinema lines. When the FX-3 first came out, it was basically an A7S III with a different form factor. Updates like this make the FX-3 and FX-30 very different cameras from the hybrids and photo cameras. It does seem these updates could easily be applied to the A7S III and Alpha 1. But if they did, why buy the FX bodies? That must be what Sony are thinking. If I owned an A7S III or Alpha 1, I'd be pissed too. I hope to see you Saturday.

It is a valid argument that you get what you bought. That said Nikon has knocked the ball out of the park with the z9. Sony, trough firmware updates made the a9 an industry leader and a different camera than that which was initially sold! I think I’m through with Sony and will soon sell my a1.

A bit over the top. Sony just released a firmware upgrade for the FX3 and FX30 in the last couple of days. The A9III is coming and I predict that the A1, at least, will get a major firmware upgrade shortly after. Not unlike what they did with the A9 firmware when releasing the A9II. In the meantime I will happily use one of the best cameras around, the A1.

But, the Sony a7Slll is already an amazing camera and should do everything you need. Not everything needs to update to the newest thing. Hollywood uses the same systems for years. Some directors even go back to using older systems. The tool just has to work and be consistent.

They should keep the expensive models up to date - until they release a new version of those models. Then the path forward is buy the available new flagship for features and the old bodies just get bug fixes. This is basically how the software business runs.

Good morning again, I will definitely return to Nikon when I can, after a week they returned the camera to me, they did a complete inspection and they did not find any defects, as I understand it, I asked for a change of equipment but it was not possible, the equipment remains the same, in The store referred me to a person in charge of Sony, this one on Sat, and he called me and told me that the camera was ready, and he referred me to another person if I had problems again for 7300e and I tell you that I will not bet on Sony again In comparison, I have an older Fuji and I have a last update from a super brutal week ago. I don't expect Sony to update us and the cameras prefer to release new models, a shame

Firmware support is a nice bonus, but with Sony I expect only what the camera features on day one. But I think an update is coming nonetheless, to put the creator app, and they will add focus breathing compensation too

That one def. I would also expect anamorphic desqueze since its extremely easy to add (and it works for both video and photo), true 24p. Cinema 4k and shutter angle (if it will even happen) probably not but i would be happy for it

Though focus breathing isn't a update it's a half-assed bandaid to a massive design flaw in what's supposed to their top of the line lenses. Focus breathing should never be acceptable in a high end lens

I want to premise with the fact that I agree with all your concerns on this one and the previous video which I just watched… But this development by Sony and many people’s reaction, makes me realize that I never though Sony, who is the most innovative company in the camera business, would be complained due to the fore mentioned innovation, and wanting to introduce the technology of the flagships and trickle it down to their cheaper cameras. I feel in a way, we have accepted the way the industry camera brands have always kept the best technologies in the flagship to reward those and give pebbles to the lower end models. (I say this as I understand. Unfair to pay for a flagship model, just to be upended by a lower end in the next year or cycle). What it teaches me - from your issue is that I need to hold off and maybe other users, on buying the flagships right away. But I do like that they provide even the lower end models with some of their innovation. I don’t want innovation to stop. It has allowed so many good products to exist. I don’t mind your negativity against it. Is a lot of money. I unfortunately see both sides. I hope that Sony can think about providing support to those flagships. Especially the A1. The 8K might be limited on the A1, because it’s using the slower CF express type A cards. Sony need to start adding Type B slots or else they will be hindered with additional capabilities in terms of throughputs.

I don't think so, mate. The CFExpress Type A can make 1200Mbps which is more than enough for up to 8K@120fps or even @240fps real time H.265. Only All-Intra S&Q will be limited.

I'm using v90 sd cards with 8k fine right now. Recording proxies simultaneously gives me instant editing capability as well. I know they couldn't employ compressed raw video due to Red, but giving people a raw dng option to cf express or porting out to ssd would have been nice. Lot's of storage would result, but there are many who would use it, especially if there was a mini port out to ssd. It's 2023, raw video should be commonplace.

I wonder if Sony realise how annoyed much of the community is? Being an old fashioned and quite arrogant Japanese company, I think perhaps they don't listen to the non Japanese market? I didn't even bother updating to firmware 2.0 yet on my A7IV as it seems to only add compatibility with the new camera app. It would be great if someone with access to Sony higher ups could directly pose the question about the lack of meaningful firmware updates.

Well this was to be expected looking back on the a9 and a9ii situation, and also the a7riv that recived minor bugs and fixes, when it could have, had at least 4k 50p/60p, aslo the a7siii should of got at least the features of the a7iv. In the coming years i belive that cameras will be more like phones and the winner will be the one who has the most software support! Don't get me wrong i like sony but they are kind of going the canon road! They are literally telling all pro users this is what you get if you want a new feature.... well buy an other camera, wich is a shitty thing to do, yeah maybe it would be a reduction in sales on the short run. But they are pushing new cameras like crazy and with incremental software upgrades and some little hardware upgrades wichi is more like a revision of the same camera (eg. A7riv and a7rv where the rV has gotten 4k50/60p, and 8k, lets say the 8k would be a problem and also the new ai focus but 4k 50/60p is just a software limitation! I'm verry pissed about this! Also have the a7siii witch should have the features of the fx3, ok maybe not all but like the latest update should have come to the a7siii as its the same internals as an fx3 just withiout the active cooling and different body stiyle.... I feel like sony and canon are digging there own graves and brands like blackmagic, panasonic, nikon and fuji are coming for they'r demographics!

Sony lists the FX3 as a "Cinema Camera" while the A7SIII is a "Interchangeable Lens Camera" same as A7 III, etc. Point is, you can't just say "I know they market them differently, but they still need to support the same thing on both platforms." Well... do they? Just because the A7SIII does do video well and you get that additional feature as part of the Digital Camera, it doesn't mean they have to support it with Cinema features in a non-Cinema camera. You want your cake and eat it too. I get it. However, you're not owed an update, if the camera did what you got it for and still does it, then what's the complaint? I also want my stuff supported forever, for free, we all do.... but we're also realistic. Also, maybe they plan on releasing some updates or the A7SIII, but it's taking time? So many unknowns, but the complaining at times sounds childish, if I'm to be honest.

I see 3 likely reasons: 1 - The A1 update is pending the release of the A9III so that these competing models can be harmonised. 2 - The A1 just didn't meet sales expectations so there is no commercial desire to support it further. 3 - The A7Siii has been strategically replaced with the FX series.

Buenos días maravilloso video, estoy completamente de acuerdo contigo yo tengo la sony a1 Y he tenido muchos problemas el primer mes no funcionaba la WiFi tuvo que pasar por el Sat ahora después de un año tiene problemas con las ópticas y ruido excesivo a parte no han sacado ninguna actualización y la sony a7rv es mucho mejor en tema enfoque y foto y más económica, podrían sacar las mejoras con alguna actualización porqué los procesadores son los mismos muchos usuarios de la A1 estamos decepcionados con sony hice esa inversión pensando que habría actualizaciones se come ta que no habrá nos dejan tirados y sacan una A2 se portaron bien con la A9 que sacaron una buena actualización jamas volveré a comparar una Camara de esta gama y llevo 5 años con sony valoro incluso volver a Nikon Sony debería de cuidar a sus clientes y más los fieles que en otros equipos llevo desde hace 40años con sony

I don't see it that way mate. I think cameras in general are going the way of the dodo bird. Most of the people I see now in youtube are shooting pet projects anyway. People that do client work are not affected as much. That Grumpy dp is still using his FS5 and happy with it. I think Sony is just trying to survive.

I moved to Sony when the a100 came out (was a rubbish camera but I still have it) then moved onto the a77, a99 and the a6000 (still love that thing). Now I have the a7s (original) a7iii - a9 and the a1. I am very annoyed and The only advantage I have is that the a1 is my last body, It will do me till I die. Come on Sony, Do the right thing and fix this please.

I was going to wait for the A1mkII, but I don't think I'll be buying another top of the range Sony. I have no issues in keeping my Sony gear and going to another manufacturer, if they have what I would like, and look after their customers. Fuji used to add features to their old cameras but have completely stopped, I suppose they also figured out that selling new cameras with barely incremental updates is hard when you are known for adding newer updates to old cameras. I personally will buy the A7R V because it has the features I'm looking for but I totally avoided A7riii and A7RIV because they were not better enough than my A7rii.

@@quentondaniels8536 that is exactly what I did with Adorama. The autofocus alone is worth it. You won't regret it. Plus your a7riv is at it's highest resale value.

While being virtually identical cameras, The A7siii and FX3 have completely different use cases in my experience. I see the FX3 being used a lot as b-cam, c-cam, and a crash cam for productions shooting with a Venice or FX6/9. The a7siii is marketed to youtubers and content creators, and it is great for that application. I understand your frustration, but I don't blame them for reserving "cinema" features for the FX and Venice line.

The ZVE-1 is also marketed to youtubers and content creators but it has almost all the cinema features the FX3 got with the 2.0 firmware while it is also $1,300 cheaper than the A7SIII.

Isn't the A1 a professional photography camera? Fx3 is slowly becoming a cinema B camera through firmware updates. The A series have always been dedicated to hybrid mix mirrorless cameras. I just don't see the issue.

I still have the A1 but bought a Z9 and use the ETZ21 adapter to use it will all my Sony lenses. I do primarily video, some stills and find the options on the Z9 for video to be much more appealing. Sony used to provide meaningful updates to their high-end cameras and I expected this with the A1. Very disappointed in Sony and have given up all hope for a meaningful update. Time to move on.

sony was famous for its aggressive vision since their first products. they push hard and occupy all the channels in tv ads. they force the market and the costumera to buy every year the latests products.. nothing is changed, because all the factories push in the same direction because we are consumers and the longevity of a product is bad for their profits.. the problem is that we can’t buy new stuff (gears cars tablets phones) every year. I’m happy just because during the last world athletics championships (budapest ‘23) I saw getty images photographers (and from other agencies), still working with nikon d5. that means: the product longevity is incredible, and that even the best photographers in their field, don’t vaste money in new gear

Good morning wonderful video, I completely agree with you I have the sony a1 And I have had many problems the first month the WiFi did not work had to go through the Sat now after a year it has problems with the optics and excessive noise aside they have not no update has been released and the sony a7rv is much better in terms of focus and photography and cheaper, they could get the improvements with some update because the processors are the same many users of the A1 are disappointed with sony I made that investment thinking that there would be updates it will come so that there will be no they leave us stranded and they take out an A2 they behaved well with the A9 that they took out a good update I will never compare a Camera of this range again and I have been with Sony for 5 years I value even going back to Nikon Sony should take care of its customers and More the faithful than in other teams I have been with Sony for 40 years

I’ve purchased 3 canon cameras since purchasing my a1. I’m not necessarily waiting on any type of firmware update, however, the a9iii better hit it out of the park, else I may end up all canon. And it better come sooner rather than later. No more vlog cameras. 😠

Again…very much agree. I voted with my wallet and have completed the move away from Sony because of the lack of camera support. I want to be able to use a flagship camera for at least 5 years and have full support from the manufacturer. This is intentionally crippling the flagship in order to push people to keep buying more bodies.

Not surprising. Tesla sometimes do the same. Update software on models 3/y way before s/x which cost double the price. FX30 sells tons of cameras so Dollar wise it is the cash cow for Sony (just like 3/y for Tesla). The a1 and 7siii are niche market (like s/x). With due time, Sony would equate the field and the higher paying customers would get their share.

This is kind pf bullshit lean me towards selling asiii and buying fx6 but i do like compact form of it and that it has viewfinder for quick checks. For me a7siii is extremely better than fx3 if not those uodates. Fx6 is another beast. Are those people weird or smth 4:30 i have never got a7siii overheat not even once not even on 35 degrees celcius summer day. Thise people need to check their sanity by saying such things!
