Can you use any cd with it.Can you use a sony voice recorder px333 or px312 to transfer music onto a cd with it.If i had a sony sd card that has music on it can transfer music from it to a cd ???

I think it should work as long as your DVR has output connections that will match the inputs on the DVD recorder.

I need to transfer video recorded from my 8mm and mini dv what kind of cable do I used? I heard you mention idle cable?? What is it and where can I buy them?

You can use a so-called Firewire cable for the miniDV (also called IEEE 1394 cable). Most models of camcorders also come with standard audio video cables that have connectors that are red, white (or black) and yellow: the yellow carries the video signal and the other two carry the left and right audio channels).

How did you connect the recorder to the Hi 8 player? There should have been three wires: a yellow one for video and one red and one white (sometimes black) for audio.

You can find used ones on ebay fror about $100-150, sometimes even less.

It depends on what kind of outputs the DVR has: if it has the standard audio video cables that have connectors that are red, white (or black) and yellow it should work.

I want to know WHY every video I have watched about this thing, NO ONE has mentioned the video format on the card that can be used with this device!!! NOT ONE video that I have watched, has anyone commented on this!! I have some videos that I want to turn into a DVD with this thing and nowhere can I find any info as to what kind of video format it has to be on the card that can be used!!! The manual doesn't tell either.

standard DVD's are low-resolution 720x480 so HD source video would have to be downsized. The unit does support some types of HD video (on tape or SD card) but I don't know that the unit is capable of decoding more modern HD formats. The users manual has some info on HD source video: docs.sony.com/release//vrdmc6.pdf

Yes - if it's in a format the unit can decode, and honestly there have been so many advances in HD compression since this unit was designed that I doubt it supports many more modern formats. It does support some earlier formats I know, such as HDV.
