Thanks for this video! I also noticed the white frame of the QR code(the fake one has an upper corner sticking out), the position of the QR code(fake one off the center of the white frame), the font of the serial number(the fake one is slightly taller and slimmer, more obvious in digit 2).

I gave one of these a shot, and also discovered that the knock-off doesn't seem to properly recognize the charge level of the battery. I plugged in a battery that was at 63% and only one light on the charger lit. Whereas the authentic charger lit up two lights. Not worth the risk. Though I understand people wanting to take the chance, as the authentic chargers are criminally high priced.

Yea, I noticed the fake charger was only charging my official battery around 80-90%. I binned it alongside the fake batteries... I now only buy from Amazon or proper camera stores as eBay has too many fakes going around.

i just got a lightly used a7r 3, and it has a couple suspect batteries. they look real to me, but when i plug them into my camera, i get a warning to the effect that it's not a compatible battery. does that pretty much mean i have knock offs? it came with other non-oem batteries, too, and i don't get that message when i install them.

I've never received that message with an official, third-party brands or knock-off battery; though I would assume it's an indication they could be knock-offs.

The fake charger takes like twice as long on a genuine sony battery. In other words it sucks.. don't buy one.

I have heard fake batterys have a different weight generally heavier than original. Sony web site will show specs for there batterys, including weight.

I bought my Sony NP-FZ100 at the B&H Photo and it comes in a Sony Orange/White Original box not on a Hard Plastic case that I have so much.

You should sticker the front "Real" and "Fake" because I'm still struggling trying to figure out which one is real. Your explaining, pickup up, swapping, and flipping. Just label it. Great effort, just minor adjustment. Carry on.

I fell for this on the charger too.. that thing took ages to charge a battery and it was advertised to charge a full a battery in 150 min. More like 300 min!

@@MyKeyReviews I'm sure it won't be a problem.. the ebay seller has a 30 day return plus ebay protection is pretty good for buyers. If that doesn't work, report him to ebay for selling counterfeit products. 😉

Hmm, all you really proved is the minor differences. Everything else is speculative. I've been using non-OEMs for several years and usually without any problems. The off brands usually don't hold their charge as long in use or in storage. OTOH my OEM Olympus battery started to balloon and no longer charges.

The point of the video is that it's counterfeit and how to tell the difference. There's a difference between third party batteries and counterfeits. I recently got a Neewer NP-FZ100 battery and it's just as good as the original. The counterfeit however, wouldn't hold its charge and rarely charge to full.

@@MyKeyReviews Yes, but how does one PROVE that one has a true OEM battery or a counterfeit. I agree that if you buy the batter y from a reputable source, including getting the battery with the camera, one likely has a genuine battery. However, an underperforming battery of unknown provenance is not proof of a counterfeit. Also, Sony is partially to blame for counterfeits because their batteries are high priced, which increases the temptation to copy them.

@@sandb1867 1) The counterfeits are typically at a price "too good to be true". 2) The OEM has a set standard which the counterfeits struggle to keep up with. I have several OEM's which match each other, the counterfeit clearly has differences. That's not to say there might be one out there which is so well done that you wouldn't know. All this video is for, is to help people that may suspect their battery being fake, to look out for signs that could indicate they are. And yes, I agree, OEM batteries are horrendously expensive, that goes with most brands.

Is someone having a problem with his Sony a6600 not charging? The charging light goes on and then off after 10 seconds. Left it for 3 hours and didn't charge at all. Could it be that the battery is not the original and the camera is refusing to charge it? Any help would be really appreciated! 🤞🏻

Did you buy your camera new or used? Or are you using a battery you bought separately? I assume you're charging directly through the camera and not by a battery charger?
