Sony Pulls Concord Servers (Factions 2 Got Canned for This?)

So Concord is finally dead. Many have been wondering how this got green lit but The Last of Us Factions 2 got cancelled. I had to rant about this and get my frustration off my chest after this news. Let's dive into it!

I think overall it's a good thing. It would have been awful to see Naughty Dog tied to a live service game long term. What really stings about Factions is the time stolen from other, better ND projects.

I remember when the rumors about Bungie not liking Factions 2 came out my immediate response was "Bungie is having so many issues with their own game, why listen to them at all". Seeing how they believed so hard in Concord for this all to play out just proves that original thought correct. I'm really sad that we'll never know exactly what Factions 2 was or get to play it because higher ups canned it over a game with a style people have been tired of for years now. If ND did decide they wanted to step away from making a live service game that they never wanted to make in the first place, then good, I want them to make what they want to, not what they are forced to. If it got canned by Sony higher ups in favor of Concord, I hope ND can reuse elements of what was planned for Factions 2 in new games somehow.

Factions 2 could have been everything that the scam game, The Day Before, pretended to be and so much more. A lot of people got excited for that game because those fake trailers looked like things we had imagined about Factions 2.

Been a year since they announced Factions II was cancelled. To think they even reimagined the Checkpoint map in Seattle’s International District and we only ever saw a small portion of the content from leaks. All that work for nothing. I guess we still have the original Factions. It’s actually funny when I realize Factions II was one of the only things I looked forward to in life and when it was cancelled my motivation overall sort of crumbled. Made a lot of progress in 2024 but nothing seems to fill the void. Sort of pathetic but sort of stuck in this reality. What do I do?

Nobody realizes that the failure of concord is the exact reason factions and the great web were canned. Insomniac and naughty dog were smart enough to see that these games weren’t sustainable for what they wanted to make.

My only wish in this life was to play Factions 2 with my friends... i have a question tho, can a studio "revive" TLOU factions 2? Like can they start production again from where they left it? Or is it all lost? If so we as gamers got robbed >:c

Saying Factions got canned for Concord is a weird comparison to me because nothing stopped Naughty Dog to say "we are stepping back on the live service ambitions and just dropping it as per previous rendition, as a network pvp game." And also it was Naughty Dogs decision, which is good, they dont want to do live service because they know they are good with single player games.

If literally any other studio had cancelled their live service game in order to focus on their singleplayer games, they would be hailed and showered in praise. When ND does it it's another L for some reason

I believe the higher ups ordered the cancellation, not Naughty Dog. What bothered fans was that the enormous ambition of Naughty Dog, who billed this game as their most ambitious yet, clashed with what Sony expects for a live-service game. They didn't have to make this game; they wanted to make it even though it was extremely difficult and ambitious, and the result is that now we don't even have a multiplayer mode. And the fact is that they could have simply implemented a very simple Factions mode in Part II without making it a stand-alone game.
