Hi!! The company you are contacting is not Sony. It’s an external company that provides service to Sony because Sony doesn’t have service here in the United States. The same thing happened to me with two cameras. You need to call Sony and explain what’s happening to see if they will reintegrate. This happened to me with the A7 III, and what Sony did was send me a new camera, and I paid around $800 when the A7 III cost almost $2000. So, I recommend you contact Sony directly and notify them of what’s happening with the company providing the service there.

When the Sony A7 III first came out, I was so excited to get it. However, at the first event where I was taking photos and filming, the camera kept turning off. I restarted it, and it seemed to work for a while, but then the issue happened again. I spoke to the camera shop about it, but they were useless. So, I contacted Sony, sent the camera off to them for repair, and they sent it back to me. Unfortunately, the same problem persisted. I ended up sending the camera back and forth to Sony six times. They eventually replaced the motherboard, but by then, I no longer wanted the camera. I spoke to the camera store again, and they told me that as long as the camera was technically "working" on paper, I could sell it, and it would still be covered by warranty. So, I sold it. After dealing with the same person at Sony for so long, they felt bad for my experience and offered me 40% off any of their cameras. With that discount, I bought the A7R IV. What I’m saying is this: tell Sony how unprofessional their service has been, how much money and time you've lost, and how much frustration you’ve endured with their products not being repaired properly. Ask if they can offer a discount or some other form of compensation for what you've been through. If they do, you could sell your current camera and use the discount to invest in a new one with a better warranty. From Stewart

HI! Idk if you will see this comment, but we have gotten a very, very similar issue with the fx9, the same (media accessory board - i/o board) looking error code: The issue all along was the top handle that was never checked to be tight and because it moved it was having imperfect contact or even shorting out other pins and erroring the camera out! I was scared shitless as the DIT and Camera assistant since it was a high profile job and we had no way to get another camera at that time, even worse, it was a studio owned camera, not a rental one, so we would have been out of commission with the camera for a while if it was actually broken.

@@davidmorefield We weren't touching the top handle either as we were on the tripod the entire shoot! The error code was E91-185, which is a comms issue between mainboard and io board, which have nothing to do with the top handle, but it does influence the IO board because the MI hotshoe on the handle links directly to the io and rec board because of the MI shoe's ability to attach to a sony audio reciever on that connector. And so if the handle is not 100% secure, OR you have something funky going with the MI interface on the cold shoe, it CAN give you false errors in the IO Board. Wow David, your experience has totally soured me on Sony service and my FX6. It's like they don't understand that people who buy their $6,000 cameras use them to make a living. And as long as they have your camera, you are losing money by having to rent or not be able to take work. Maybe the FX6 is going to be a like owning a traditional Jaguar or a Ferrari where you have to buy two of them to have one working unit that you can count on. I have to say, my experience with Canon Service on issues with my C200s and C300 MKII have been REALLY good, like one week or less turnaround, great communication, and Canon has a support program where they WILL lend you a camera while your camera is being fixed. I guess Sony doesn't offer that. I still assert that the FX6 is a prosumer quality product, not a pro product and this is what you have to expect using a prosumer product for professional work instead of a pro level product. I agree with you about the Sony brainwashing with the market, I too get plenty of not requests, but DEMANDs that I shoot Sony. Hopefully with Canon's resurgence, the market will become balanced like it was in the C300 MKII/FS7 MKII era when you could use either and most clients were happy. If I had a choice, I would dump my FX6 for a C400 in a heartbeat, I think it's a better camera and I KNOW that Canon service makes Sony service look like a joke. But I bought the FX6 specifically for one client for a recurring job who utilizes their in house Sony A7 SIII and A7 IV. They love my FX6 more than I do.

And what's worse is when Sony effs up, they REFUSE to admit it. I used to deal with Sony as a retailer and on a wholesale level for electronics and they have always been the most arrogant manufacturer, it's not just you, they have always treated most of their customers like crap. I can't complain about my experience over the Summer with Sony Service LA, they were very nice to me and did follow up, although it took them a freaking MONTH to obtain four little $1.00 screws for my FX6. I lost $1,400 in rentals while my FX6 took a month vacation there. So my FX6 already cost me $7,400 to own. That's why I've repeatedly said that I would have easily and happily just paid $7,500-$8,000 for an FX6 that was built to pro level, not prosumer level. Same camera, same features, just with a good, metal, normal diameter mic mount, a dumb , easily changeable top handle with zero electronics in it, a side grip that wasn't loose no matter how you tighten it, a menu scroll wheel that doesn't jump through the menus like a slot machine, in body XLRs, etc. You know, a pro camera? Your whole Sony ecosystem rant is the most real argument I've heard for why Sony. In the end, at this point, all these modern cameras are awesome tools. But I believe what you said about established workflows is almost always true for any business or industry where change has too high of a cost. For example, how often do companies with 100s of employees switch payroll systems? How often do car dealerships switch the makes they sell? Etc. Sony makes awesome glass (a lot of it) and great cameras but that's just standard business. The others will catch up to the glass offerings eventually. And they will catch up to the autofocus, eventually, too. Sony is winning because they built the right tools at the right time and became the standard professional workflow for the side of the industry you're in. I think some of the evidence for this is in their financial reports. Sony and Cannon, both being public companies, have to tell us how they're making money every quarter. Sony has but a small fraction of the sales of Canon but actually earns more than Canon. That's because the majority of Sony Imaging's sales are professional (and more expensive) cameras; like FX6. TLDR; your rational for sticking to the FX6 is rock solid.

Sony Cams are just more popular right now and it’s what producers are used to. The irony is what Sony was in the lead during the FS7 days too, Canon’s faltering really put Sony in the lead. As an editor who has had to deal with like every camera format you can imagine I both understand the “workflow” argument but also don’t get it at all. But I get that a lot of teams get into a flow and workflow and want to stick to it. BUT the biggest thing I see is more the matching argument, IE they are matching other Sony footage or other Sony cameras so it becomes less work to match Sony to Sony. Really lame that Sony never explained the issue. Or didn’t diagnose it fully. It’s a 4 year old camera now and I think whatever they follow it up with will use a different sensor, likely 6K and who knows, maybe it will reboot the ecosystem and a baby Burano will be next.

I know people requested Sony when you used to have Canon and whatnot, and there are likely many listings with Sony requests but I think you'd be able to carve your way back relatively quickly if you did switch at some point. I just feel like the whole repair saga leaves a bad taste especially if something like this were to happen in the future, wouldn't want to deal with what seems like less than stellar customer support.

First off, Sony is really screwing up in the customer service department. From your issues, as well as others to their firmware updates....they obviously just don't care anymore. While I will not cut my nose off to spite my face, I am starting the process of moving away from Sony gear because of these reasons. My Sony A1 and A7sIII are up for sale. I still have my FX6 cameras and my FX3 cameras, but, as you say, they are requested. Regarding your batteries, I have started moving my Core Hypercore's over to their new Core Poweredge batteries because of the regulated output cables. This will protect all of my equipment in the future.

@@Justin_Allen Which camera manufacturer did you choose to go with?
@Justin_Allen6 сағат бұрын
@@davidmorefield I haven't decided yet to be honest. I have Red Komodo-X cameras as well as Blackmagic cameras. Neither of them are as flexible or have the same features as the Sony's do right now, specifically the autofocus and low light flexibility that's pretty much fail proof. I am looking at the Nikon cameras but they really have to be built out so I am having an issue with that. One thing that is interesting is that the Sony Burano camera is a cinealta camera, so it uses AbleCine as an authorized repair center vs the other one that you, and everyone else, have to use. If I could get past the price point of the Burano I would go there...but it is just not a $25,000 camera to me. Short answer to your question...I don't have a replacement yet. But I am looking.
@davidmorefield5 сағат бұрын
@ Burano would be a nice option for me as well. It’s just funny though. My career level does not need the features or price of that camera. But my everyday usage could greatly benefit.
@Justin_Allen5 сағат бұрын
@@davidmorefield I am the same on the corporate side of things. I could use it for the virtual production side of my business but my 2 Komodo-X cameras at $7,000 each handles that. For me to get the Burano and use it dual purpose would still be as much as my 2 Komodo-X cameras AND my 2 Sony FX6 cameras. And the personal benefits cannot justify that cost, no matter how much I would like to get one. Bring the Burano down to $15,000 and I'm in!

Maybe consider the original black magic Ursa if you could live without autofocus. You get the Prores codec and form factor as well as IO. VMount plate is integrated into the body. Way more affordable. Great for recording internal audio even without the top handle. You need to get to the point where people hire you for your skills not the gear you own. New cameras come out everyday just pick what you enjoy using the most.
@davidmorefield20 сағат бұрын
@@scott_stevenson Yeah that’s a great system. At this point, I cannot make a camera decision based on my preferences. Wouldn’t be a smart business move. Ideally in the future I don’t own any gear.

Trust me, they'll say it's a cosmetic issue and won't affect the operation, but as soon as something goes wrong they'll say; "Well you shouldn't have used the camera, you should've sent it back immediately after noticing the issue". So whatever you do, DO NOT USE IT before it gets fixed. EDIT: I'm advising you to strongly consider having a small OEM battery inside the camera as a buffer to future power issues just to isolate/buffer the mainboard from voltage or current surges in the future
