I have this camera and all I can say is wow! It is my go everywhere piece of equipment. I find myself leaving the a7r2 home more and more. As a little side note many entertainment venues wont let you bring a detachable lens camera into an event. I have used this at a few concerts and have images from the back row that look like i was right next to the stage. Great review Ted

I love your detailed reviews. I recently purchased a used RX10 III and I love the camera. I got to travel with it to Washington DC and I also brought my RX100 V and my A6000 for comparison purposes and I love the results that I got. I would definitely crown the RX10 III as an excellent travel camera. The battery life is excellent and the lens range and features are outstanding. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Now I know from which camera those moon shots were taken with. I thought they were quite amazing and forget to ask with which lens you took it. Now I understand where the magnifying factor came from. Amazing range 24-600mm. Great review as usual Ted. You seem to pick up all the good and bad points. I guess that's because you take time to use it for a while before giving out your verdict. Many reviewers are not that reliable, some just take a few shots and rely on the camera specs. Statistics are not enough, you've got to use it in different situations to evaluate the ergonomics and discover the plus and minus of the camera (and lens). Thanks for sharing Ted!

You did not mention (as far as I could tell) the af at 600mm. I would not expect sports but it would be good if it grabbed af fairly quickly at full 600mm.

During the summer months, I do a lot of auto racing video at a local 3/8 mile dirt track. The racing goes well after dark, and the track doesn't have great lighting. Wondering how this camera would work to replace my dedicated Canon XA10 prosumer camcorder. I'm concerned about low light, and the zooming performance and feel of this camera, as I am constantly zooming in and out on every lap. Thoughts?

06:19. NO NO NO!!! I am sick to death of you bloody youtubers telling us that “every camera needs a fully articulating screen.” The side hinged screen is slow, cumbersome, conspicuous and only useful for shooting yourself and around corners. Other than that it is an absolute nightmare to use. Ted, just stop this diatribe... it’s incorrect and misleading.

I am now seeking out your camera reviews as you have the most appealing reviews and overall style. I think I talked myself out of the RX100m5 as my RX100m2 just works. I'm wondering if there is an RX10m4 coming up though. Something that matches (or exceeds) the speed and burst mode of the RX100m5. I do see the appeal of a bridge camera for me now as my DSLR (Canon 40D) and all my gear sit in a bag in my closet 99% of the time. I could easily fit this in one of my smaller camera bags that would be much more portable.

Thank you for your video. I am buying this camera on October 1st. Bird photography is my passion. If I set the aperture to F4, what MODE do I take photos in? I want to shoot P mode. If I shoot in P mode it will adjust shutter speed and aperture, right? Can I manually turn the aperture ring when I am in the MF mode to keep it at F4? Also I saw a video where the Aperture ring said F6 for example but on the screen on top on the camera it said something like F3. Why is that? I want the shutter speed to be set at 1000. I keep reading about ISO but I understand that is about making the photo lighter or darker, the same as Exposure Compensation. I am probably wrong. If ISO is shutter speed, where in the Menu can I adjust the shutter speed to 1000?

Ted; To begin thks for this practical approach review. I am currently considering buying this camera or a Sony a6300/6500. Still it leaves me with two questions, perhaps for you or other people familiar with the Sony RX10 III: 1) How do the camera performs in action following sports like rugby? 2) How does it perform in terms of maximum ISO without perceptible noise in still photos? Here by perceptible noise perhaps the best I can explain "My level of perception" would be printing a max resolution photo 20MP on an A3 sheet size. Again thks and more than interested in you making a Sony a6500 or a Sony Rx10 III instruction video manual - IF POSSIBLE- Thks again a recent subscriber.

@@MrBillkaz Ended buying a more practical Sony camera for less money but with a Zeiss lens 24-1200 ideal for outdoor photo and yet quite accurate for sports (in daylight at least. Sony HDV400. The 6500 mirrorless or a similar one is still in my plans.

Whenever I get a new piece of kit I usually skim the instructions....use the camera for a while and THEN return to the manual to really get a grip. I was rather disappointed with this camera for a while until I realised I had it on manual focus ( button was unusually on front of camera out of sight!) However now that I have got past my senior moment I am thoroughly enamored with this beauty. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would possess a camera with 600 mm capabilities!

Oh man, was just about to order this one as a true upgrade for my A5100, but then the videos of the upcoming Panasonic FZ2500 started to popup on YT. Even more serious 4K formats, touchscreen, great overall functions, cheaper.... not to go into too much detail. It's a jungle. I usually buy the best and newest at the moment but that's much easier in the Mac area, meaning that you can buy a totally maxed MacBook Pro and live happily for next 3-4 years. With cameras, they come and "kill" each other every 6 months. Yeah, one should buy a camera that fits one's needs but still.. I've done a great job with my DSLR choosing a NIKON D5300 at the time and it's still an amazing camera for stills. But for video, no. I guess I'll wait for the FZ2500 to be reviewed here.... Great job Ted!

I'm also voting for the FZ2500/2000 review, doesn't have to be a comparison w RX10 III, just unleash the "Panny" and let us know. Me? I've pre-ordered one because of the touchscreen and the focus adjustment while you're filming, higher 4K codes_and_ no time limit 4K filming. Would've loved to go from Sony to new Sony, owning a @5100 right now which I love dearly, but..... Thanks Ted!

@avene8 жыл бұрын
Regardless, you won't find a full frame lens with kind of range, or something as compact.
@sdrtcacgnrjrc8 жыл бұрын
I have to admit I dont understand when people talk about equivalents for aperture: why is it not just what it is? i.e. the same. EDIT// and who's Tony ?
@jaisbr8 жыл бұрын
sdrtcacgnrjrc if you are going to compare the cost and performance lenses from one format to another, it makes sense. The image quality (noise) and depth of field you will get at 600mm with the RX10 is roughly the same as a full frame DSLR with a 600mm lens with a F11 max aperture. So don't compare it to the cost of a 600mm F4 lens and think you are getting an amazing deal
@augustofretes8 жыл бұрын
That's not how any of this works, it has a depth of field equivalence of about F11, DEPTH OF FIELD, not quality, sharpness, or speed...
@jaisbr8 жыл бұрын
Luis Augusto Fretes Cuevas as I said, it's depth of field AND image quality. When you reduce the image circle size then you reduce the amount of detail you can resolve and increase the noise/grain

This would be an auto buy for me if it wasn't 1100g. They need to shed some weight off it.
@Stalled-wm3qd7 жыл бұрын
Mex - How much does a similar lens weigh? Plus an SLR body? Most 600mm zoom lenses start at 150mm and weigh close to 2kg to start with. So you are missing out on 24mm to 150mm range to start with. Canon 80D body = 0.736kg. So, 2.736kg total ie 2.5 times the weight of the Sony and missing 18.6% of the focal length. As with every camera choice we are faced with compromises. As Ted said at the beginning of his video they should first include a fully articulating touch screen.
@mexicanfrusciante7 жыл бұрын
+007Stalled 7 not sure what you're talking about. I would never buy a Canon, it's like carrying a brick, much like this camera. If I did buy a micro 4/3 camera I wouldn't put a 600 mm lens on it either because it'd be too heavy to carry around all the time. I'd just put a 140mm lens or something like that and it'd be MUCH lighter than this camera. That is why I bought the Sony AX53. 26mm to 600mm and HALF the weight of this camera at around 600g. I carry it in one hand all day long for hours and don't even notice I have it. That's how I like to roll.
