This game was released in a time when the hate towards Sony, from the Xbox fanboys and the US gaming press was so big, that I wonder how the playstation managed to survive. After the combat x360 vs ps3, everybody seemed to hate Sony. No way Sony could release a good exclusive title... I remember reading most ps4 reviews. Not only the ps4 was more powerful in paper, but in reality, it managed to destroy the x1. launch games could easily run at 1080p on the ps4, while the same game would only run at 900p, or even 720p. The kinekt2 was a joke. The voice control was a joke. It was much less powerful. And many other disadvantages. But despite that, the US reviews would still give a higher score/review to the x1. After the x360 success, no way the ps4 could win. So they would use everything, to destroy the ps4... like the ps4 launch titles, where every single exclusive title got destroyed by the press. Kill zone shadow fall, with its incredible graphics ? Low scores. Reasons ? Crap like 'ohhh, killzone SF plays like other killzone games'. Really ? Should it play as halo, instead ? Knack, with a great, lovely story, great characters, great old school gameplay . The red reviewers absolutely hated it. They thought they would finish it in 20 minutes, to quickly post their review, but instead, with an old-school gameplay, they kept dying.. and dying... and n dying... thousands of times. Etc etc etc. Then, The order 1886 was announced. 6 months before release, there were already hundreds of doom and gloom articles about the game. 10 reasons why it will flop. 12 reasons why it will be bad. Etc etc. Suddenly, the QTE became a 3rd world problem. All the negative reviews were already written months before release. The journalists wouldn't even play the game. Their crap review was ready, 4 months in advance. And of course, when the game was out, it got destroyed by the press. Ah, those quick time events !!! It didn't matter what game it was, any ps4 exclusive had to be destroyed.

It was a interesting game in that graphically even if released today it would be considered a good looking game.... QTE aside it played well, story wasn't awful, had a lot of creativity going for it, its a shame they didn't put effort into its game length. But it did at least showcase what was possible graphically at the start of the 8th console generation.
@mjc09612 жыл бұрын
The problem wasn't the length. If the game was longer it probably would have been received even more poorly, because of how mediocre the gameplay was. I wouldn't wanted more of the third person shooting it offered, and I certainly wouldn't have wanted more of the QTE monster fights. They should have had more interesting fights with the monsters, rather than focusing on an interesting third person shooter against normal humans. The monsters should have been the strength of the game, instead it had the least attention put towards it.

I personally hope that this game will serve as an objective lesson for developers that GAMES ARE NOT MOVIES. If you want to make machinema or a straight-up 3D CGI movie, then by all means do so. We can always use more high-production animated movies. But to take a medium defined by its interactivity and spend the majority of your time creating non-interactive and barely-interactive facsimiles of cinema is a waste of time. Be you video game or be you movie. Trying to be both just takes you down the path of FMV games from the 90s.

I remember when this game came out was right around when i started watching Twitch & watching runners showcase it then, and was forever in awe at the graphics and the excitement around the idea that this would become a graphical standard in the pending future. 2022 and I still look at this game in awe having experienced games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk to say the least. I love when developers go overboard on minutia personally and hope that doesn't become a completely lost art as we continue to creep further in to gaming's future. Sidenote: i had a brain blast when Gvmers mentioned that one channel who broadcasted the game before it's release cause as someone who would stay up to date with all of the "pre release exclusive walkthrough's" (before review copy's were so common) I think I recall viewing that exact channel since i was so hyped about this game at the time. That's probably why the game failed tbh. Just because you CAN make it look as good as a PS5 game on the PS4, doesn't mean you should. The Order: 1886 is one of the most underrated game of its time. I played the game approximately 6 years after its release, knowing full well that it was generally viewed as a failure. To my surprise I actually had an amazing time with it. Even at the end of the PS4 generation the game looked fantastic. Even today, seeing this video, it looks better than some recent PS5 games. The story was also excellent. I was expecting the cliffhanger everyone was talking about the whole time. But then again, I was quite surprised that the game's story actually had a proper conclusion. Sure, it was open to a sequel, but there was nothing that would spoil the story experience for me. And don't even get me started about absolutely stunning environments. The game certainly isn't flawless, it's mostly lacking some of the quality of life improvements we are used to in games these days, I wished the environments were more open, but even so, the game is still great. Even today. If you haven't played it yet, I'd recommend you to do so.

Quite possibly the most incredible-looking game I've ever seen. Even now, 7 years later, nothing quite compares. All the more disappointing how the rest of the game turned out. The first big red flag was the announcement that The Order 1886, which was by all accounts looking to be Sony's steampunk Gears of War, wouldn't have a co-op mode. For all the talk about the underwhelming gameplay, nobody mentions how garbage the script is. The setting and the lore are admittedly fantastic, and I wish we would've gotten anything else, even a tie-in comic book, that would explore it further. But the actual script is riddled with holes and completely falls apart in the second half, where it's nothing but platitudes, contrivances and stupid misunderstandings. The abrupt, unsatisfying sequel bait ending that doesn't really resolve anything is just a cherry on top of the shit sundae. What a shame.

The stealth was abomination with its binary state - you are seen you repeat the sequence. The mechanics like fighting Lycans were close to none, stand in one place roll when attacked enemy goes away rinse and repeat 3 to 4 hits to kill the enemy. Story was nice but it ended when others games would use the cliffhanger in the mid section of the game and continued. Played it but to me it was at best OK game and I bought it for 1/3 the price. And I have to say I play a lot of shorter games 3 to 5 hours long which I like way much more.
