Hi, how many belts used in this machine? Will sl-c7 belts fit this one?

I have a New old stock SL-5600 it doesn't play only rewinds and fast fowards could it be a belt and how do i access the belts so it can play

It could certainly be a belt, there are a few. Belts are accessed through the bottom and the top on these units. There are numerous belts and rubber tires that can cause all kinds of issues. Based on the question I would take it to a qualified technician. It’s way too easy to damage if you’re not familiar.

what kind of battery do you use to replace the old one?

I don’t have a specific part number for a new one as I simply left the battery out. However it is very likely a NiCd type of a particular voltage and mAh rating. You’ll need to get the old one out, see what it says and go from there via a Google search. I’m sure something’s available.

Do you have the schematics? I'm working on a sl 5800 that has no color video, so far I think it's the video demod board, the schematics would be of great help

I have all the paper schematics but I’d imagine you can purchase a pdf from SAMS Photofact for the 5800.

Where can I find a TB-1 board and battery?

Gungrave696 sadly only a parts unit. However, if you leave the board out, it should still operate for the most part. One of my units is missing the board entirely. If anything it should only affect the timer function.

When I insert a tape into my 5400 it automatically starts making a sound from something spinning fast and none of the play controls function. Do you know if this is the belts that need replacing and what is causing that sound? Thanks !

Kris Carter yes, that sounds like one of the small threading belts broke. I cover that towards the end of this video, in a later segment.

The 5400/5600 are slightly different from the 5800. They have a large loading belt on the bottom.
